Guys, it it just me, or is there something about smoking weed that suits so comfortably with watching the Lord of the Rings movies. Also good fun with some friends too.
[Evening falls on Hobbiton. Bilbo and Gandalf sit peacefully smoking pipe outside Bag End. Below them, in the party field, sounds of laughter and revelry float up from a growing crowd of Hobbits preparing for their evening's entertainment. Torches and candles light a festive scene and everywhere food is rapidly filling up the space on wooden trestles.]
Bilbo: "Old Toby. The finest weed in the Southfarthing."

Watch the first one on in your spare time! I'm surprised you haven't, they're pretty well-known.
p.s. ya they're good, some of my favorite movies for sure

Weed and fantasy go well together.
In a lot of video games, I notice it, too. Rpgs and rts or what have you, its the same principal. Tasks that would normally be dull become intriguing because your imagination and empathy for the characters seems to magnify after a smoke.
But, yeah. pretty much every fantasy element seems to be better for me stoned as well.
That being said, fuck probation. : (

There's a lot of referrences in LOTR, at least the movies, that seem to hint at weed use. I first noticed it when Sauromon said to Gandalf "I think your love of the halflings pipeweed has slowed your mind". I mean, come on!

Yah. Its pretty blatant.
You know tolkein was smoking some heavy shit to be able to write out that much fantasy to begin with.
The dude even made his own languages.
The things people accomplished on pot before the advent of the internet....

Because these movies are so long, you have more time to smoke and get much higher. That's what makes ganja and LOTR go hand in hand.

I read all of the books but have never seen the movie (movies).

Good combo, also weed+ Star Wars is a nice one.
i am a big fan of both weed and lord of the rings and from reading the books i dont think he meant marijuana, and i dont think tolkien was high to write it. it is possible to have an imagination without weed...

says that Tolkien rejected the claim that pipeweed was 'marijuana.' :(

Those movies arnt really my thing, but my mate put on on and at the beggining it said something about people harvesting piping weed or something like that. That made me laugh.

I found that entire story a little stale and boring. Wow, a magic ring that goes on for like 8 hours. Zzzzzz...
But I do enjoy the very last one, Return of the King. When it's about 30 minutes in, then those battles go on for a good hour or so, then the last half hour I don't care about. :p

I don't think it's so much Tolkein referrencing the weed, but Peter Jackson. Tolkien even specified that it was "tabac" in the books, but maybe Jackson was just getting with the times and shifting (indirectly) to weed.

duh dude..the strain they smoke is called bottomleaf. haha. seriously though, thats what they smoke.
in the books they blow all sorts of different colored stuff, but they fail to show this in the movie. they show gandalf blowing a ship but in the book they blow way more intricate objects and things, and theyre supposed to be all crazy colorful.

that makes me think of clerks II, when randall does his own re-enactment of the lotr...which always makes me laugh so hard
i checked out that wiki link on pipeweed, the one that it's that haze posted, and yeah, that's disappointing that he said it's not weed...but i found it interesting that there were several different strains of pipeweed...

Your generation and mine is the generation of impatience. Everything is instant rapid stimulation, immediate gratification. We all need to learn how to calm the mind and appreciate the subtleties of life.

I can be content for hours [and i mean it, days at a time belive it or not] just fishing, even if i'm not catching anything, it's still enjoyable. It's a GREAT sport. Sitting there, watching the fish rise in the evening is probably the best thing i could ever whitness, in my books. That to me is a miricle. It's so captivating to me, i love it. I love nature. These days kids seem more interested in playing with knives, video games [ALL] the time, and generally not only expect more, but tire of it too. I know not all teenagers are like this, but seriously, the most simplest of things are the most amazing.
I dont know weather im getting my point across or weather im nattering on, it's because i've inhaled some deadly cannabis weed and it's giving me cancer, killing my brain cells and giving me breasts. Wow, i know so much about weed because i listen to the ones who know what's what - the Government baby yeah!

'I know what is the matter with me,' he muttered, as he sat down by the door. 'I need smoke! I have not tasted it since the morning before the snowstorm.'
- Gandalf
Lord of the Rings is the Shit. The movies are pretty cool, but the book is just fantastic.

Sounds good to me. I want to move to Canada anyway, i've been really wanting to go to Nove Scotia, mainly because of trailer park boys, but now MaryJaneScott has filled me in on some details, it sounds like my kind of place. I'll never have the money though with the amount i smoke. I know i could cut down, but im content. I'll just have to settle on a holiday or something. It'd be nice to meet the cast of TPB. It's a shame they dont smoke in real life, otherwise i'd love to toke with Robb Wells and Mike Smith [my avatar!]
I'd love to do some fishin, smoke a nice big joint outta the kilo we'd have next to us at all times, it'd be one to remember, that's for sure!

I'm glad that my thread turned out into more than just a thread. Hopefully people who have read might consider relaxing, and I mean really relaxing. Let us all make adjustments to slow down, and simply envelop the nature of our surroundings, and how much beauty lies in even the simplest of things.
On a rainy day however, these movies are a good and further relaxing substitute.
Thanks guys, and especially to Mrdevious and LIP
