I've been listening to it almost every day since I got it a few weeks ago, it's called "Fiction". I'm surprised to say this, but it's become my favorite album of theirs yet! I think they've finally solidified their sound, tightened everything up and given us all the best parts that we found scattered throughout previous DT albums. The opening riff on the first song is just damn addictive, the second "lesser faith" is just amazing, "Terminus (Where Death Seems To Dwell)" just has such a nice "groove" to it (that's amazing on *ahem* certain substances that enhance socialization and mood). There's 3 songs out of the 10 that I really don't care for, but that's to be expected. Also, their closer "The Mundane and the Magic" was just amazing, the most beautiful song I've heard from them yet. If you're wonding who that female guest vocalist is, it's Nel Siglund who's the new singer from Theatre Of Tragedy (their newest album "storm" is pretty kick-ass IMO).

If you don't know what I'm talking about, Dark Tranquillity are arguably the inventors of the Gothenburg (or "Melodic Death Metal") genre, and IMO far exceeding In Flames in talent, inovation, addictive riffs especially, and overall higher quality. Not the same thing as IF at all actually, so don't judge their sound by comparing them to In Flames when I say they're "Gothenburg".

So anybody else heard this album? Thoughts? If you haven't, I really recommend you do. DT is one of my all-time favorite bands.

Yea I got it way b4 it officially came out, very very good album. I was surprised to hear "The Mundane and the Magic" also, a really unorthodox and cool song. Damn man, DT has been around for almost 20 years now huh, hell of a long time.

18 years I guess. Holy crap, lol, I never even thought of it like that. When did 1989 become a long time ago?

Glad to hear you enjoy them too man. Just curious, what did you think of projector? Most people gripe about it becaues they don't like his soft vocals, something done so predominately only on that album, but I personally love it and thought it was a brilliant piece of work. Was nominated for a grammy actually.

I hate when people piss about when a band is willing to experiment, I mean they're the ones making the music, and a lot of times they make the music that they enjoy for themselves. Projector was my favorite album for a while, and it still is one of my favorites. It's honestly a beautiful metal record, and shows just how talented and experimental DT can get. Man I remember hearing UnDo Control, I thought it was a really ballsy move, and I was really surprised that a band like DT would use a soft female vocalist. They seriously rock man.

What's the first album I should listen to by them? Never heard of them, but I am intrigued.

Try Character and Fiction, that's their two latest albums, and they're damn tight. It's melodic death metal btw, idk if thats your thing, but hey they're Swedish, so it all good :D

I don't know about character (first album I got btw). It has a lot of great ideas and I personally enjoy it, but it also seems to disorganized and a bit rough on the vocal production.

Personally I would recommend "Damage Done", "Projector" and "Fiction". If you just want to hear some kick-ass songs I'd recommend:

- Cathode Ray Sunshine
- Lost To Apathy
- The Lesser Faith
- The Mundane And The Magic
- Therein
- Hours Past In Exile

I personally love "White Noise/Black Silence" too, but I don't know if others would hear it the way I do.
