I have a big interest in filmmaking and I've always wanted to write one set in the '70s, with an awesome soundtrack on par with Almost Famous, Dazed and Confused, etc....just wondered if you guys knew any awesome '70s songs you'd recommend.
Preferably not anything Led Zeppelin, though, since they hardly ever let their stuff be used (tragic, I know...)

How about
Blondie ~ Heart of Glass
Play it when the people in the movie are in the car smokin, perhaps?

i highly recommend:
one way out - the allman brothers band
funk 49 - joe walsh (james gang)
cities on flame with rock and roll - blue oyster cult
those are some fantastic songs and have a really chill vibe :)
some other good ones i recommend are:
respect yourself - the staples singers
the rubberband man - the spinners
celluloid heroes - the kinks
hey baby - ted nugent
rock candy - montrose
radar love - golden earring
tell me something good - rufus
sugar magnolia - the allman brothers band
mountain jam - the allman brothers band
basically, i would recommend anything from the allman brothers band, especially if you're going for that chill vibe :)
let me know if you want to make a 60s movie, and need some suggestions for that soundtrack...i have a ton of great music from the 60s and 70s (as you can see) ;)

If you have an action scene, try Motorhead's Overkill:D. It's 1978, and has 3 of the most killer solo's ever at the end.
