I read some where on here that if you put a slice of apple in the jar while curing it will give a nice flavor to the pot. I just opened the jars for thier daily breathing and found white mold begining to form on them. I took them out and I don't see any on the pot (which I am super drying as we speak). but what did I do wrong? Should I be changing apple slices regularly? Any help would be appriciated.

well the apple is full of moisture, and will mold eventually.
i don't think that the effects of the apple will be worth the possability of molding your crop, but if you do decide to use the apple i would only recomend that you use it when the pot is almost fully cured and completly dry. this will help prevent mold.

adding a slice of apple or orange peelings is only used if your product gets too dry, at least as far as i've read. i did it once to rehydrate a bag. i cant say it would be usefull otherwise. and i would think mold could be a problem using wet materials.
