View Full Version : Fast Heartbeat bad trip?

One time for me personally I got really really high and it felt like my heart was super sped up. A lot faster, not just the little bit that bud does. And then it makes you have a terrible trip because it hurts and your afraid your gonna have a heart attack. It lasted the whole time.

That was about 6 months ago.

Today me and my friend blazed out of my new icecatcher and he took a fat rip and got so fucked off of it, anyway he started complaining that his heart was hurting really bad and was beating fast. I felt it and compared to mine it was racing. It ruined his whole time and since its dank from the clinic it was like 4 hours wasted of what otherwise would have been a super good time.

Anyone ever experience this or a similar "trip"? If so any tips or any information you can provide about it?

It happened to me once when I smoked way too fast and too much. I went and laid down on my bed and calmed myself for a while and I was fine.

The point is just take it slowly, and there's never a need to toke a lot at first. If its too little, wait a bit and pack another bowl.

You know what's really gay?

This has been happening to me a lot lately. I don't know why, and I don't know how. I've been smoking for a couple years now, and this shit never used to happen. It almost seems to happen every other time I smoke. For awhile I thought it was the strand, or the potency. Then I thought it was because I was smoking so much, so often. I still have no idea why its been happening. It's almost like a panic attack. My heart starts racing and I get this feeling like I'm going to die or some shit.

It's ridiculous. I've been smoking long enough to know all this shit is in my head...but then I start thinking about it more...maybe it's not all in my head. Maybe there really is something wrong with my body. It's fucked up. Bleh...its been decreasing a lot lately, so that's good, but it's not completely gone. If this keeps going on much longer, I just don't know what I'm going to do. I really don't wanna give it up.

i have been going through a similar thing myself lately...i smoke daily, though not that much, but still the same amount everyday, and my hands are shaking and my heart is beating out of its chest...it is like i am looking down the barrel of a gun or something...doesnt matter the strain or anything.....i have no idea what is causing this, i have never experienced anything like it......i am curious to see what others have to share....

Yea it was happening to me and whenever i smoke my heart feels fast but most of the time when im laughing i just forget aobut it and ive sort of gotten used to the feeling. If u just chill out it actually feels pretty good at times cause ur chest feels relaxed and numb sorta. But yea i understand why it was freaking u out cause it did for me to but just try to chill and get used to it cause it wont be as bad.

Happened to me during my first time smoking, and it was a panic attack. For awhile as a beginner it still happened, but I learned to live with it. Now it rarely does. if you keep your mind off it (i know, easier said than done), it will go away. There is no reason to worry about it, guys. You're not going to die. Just tell yourself that nobody has ever died from an overdose of cannabis, so why would you? Also, tell yourself that you did it to have fun, not to have a panic attack and have a shitty, tormenting time. It could be that you were overwhelmed... that's why it happened. Perhaps you've never been that high before? I think the rapid heart beat is either completely fake (as in, it's all in your head), or you're just scaring yourself, so your heart beats faster. Afterall, when you're scared, your heart does beat faster. If you're not scared, why would it? Also, Reaper666, I agree that what you said can happen, but I believe this is just the result of an overwhelming high. The trick is to calm yourself down. Cheerz.

P.S. I noticed that with sativa strains this happens more often. Try an indica strain if you just can't get this to stop. :)

Yes both times were with sativa strains I noticed. It really is annoying and usually ruins the whole high. I wonder if anybody has any more info on this subject.

I have the same problem as well when i smoke. I seem to get really anxious and tired which isnt fun. Drink some Classic Cokacola and you'll be feeling much better, i swear it works for me everytime. Try it out and post back what you think.

Been there myself. I had to lay down. Actually it happened while I was showering. I had to lay down in the tub and just wait a few minutes.

ya for a little bit a year ago or so i started to get that but once you realize your fine itll stop happening you just gotta get really high a bunch of times and even tho it might be hard to ignore it at first eventually it will get less and less once you start realizing that its nothing and eventually you wont notice it at all anymore

I smoked daily for a while and stopped for a month, this stuff started happening to me too when I started smoking again and I thought I was ruined, but eventually it stopped happening (I bought a new strain and convinced myself the last one was the problem). I also noticed when it was happening that it didn't matter in my case how much I knew nothing bad was going to happen it's that I didn't know how big of a breath to take each time and I think I was hyperventilating from big breaths or felt like I was suffercating on small breaths.

Funny that you guys bring this subject up....It's also been happening to me in the last 3 days. I get a superhigh by hitiing the waterfall bong and ever since I started hiting off the waterfall bong I've notice my heartbeat starts racing.....it feels like it's going to explode and begins to put me in a paranoid state. I tend to think it's because it's a sativa strain. sativa gives you the mind high and everytime I smoke it it gets me paranoid.

What I find that helps me out is that I simply lay down or lay back and tell myself, "if something is going to happen to me, i'm going to be laying down rather than having to collapse on the floor and risk getting hurt that way as well....." and low and behold, I'm calmed down and it begins to go away. After the scary feeling goes away, it almost feels like I like the superhigh feeling...it's unexplainable. It's like that feeling that you don't like and when you know everything is ok, you tend to think that you actually liked the way it felt because you;re superhigh.

i love it even tho i have gone tru all this crap too.
the first time i got high (the second time i smoked) , i was with my onder couzin. we were on our way to the beach when he pulled out a soquet and a fat nug.
when i hit dat shit, the smoke was soo dense i choked like crazy!
after like 5 mins i started feeling it and woah!
that was the first trip i've ever had.
i thot i was going to die. i was tripping so bad that we had to go back home. i think. i say i think bcs i kinda remember him walking by the beach buy i was still in the car then i fell assleep. and i remember waking up like at 11 pm that day hahaha. i was sooo scared tho.

Man this type of shit usually happens to me when Ive stopped smoking for a while. I end up hittin it so hard and smokin it so fast that like 5 minutes later i'm fucked outta my mind thinkin i'm gonna die. Shit i've felt like I was gonna black out at times everything started gettin dark and I was just paranoid as fuck.

the best thing that works for me is to just make sure your completley relaxed before you smoke. Make sure your in a good environment and take it slow and easy. That way it wont just creep up on your ass and scare the shit outta you lol.

And another thing If your thinking about the rapid heart beat before you toke your more than likley gonna feel while high and its gonna fuck off your high, so just try to take your mind off of it and you should be alright.

Igh, this happened today. I freaked out and started shaking, and I kept thinking that perhaps my body didn't even exist, and that my perception was simply something that just is, and it was the only thing that existed. I really freaked out, I'm pretty sure I scared my friend I was smoking with too, lol. He prolly thought that I was going to start killing people or something.

I basically stopped reading after this post. He's right. It's all in your head. Once it starts, you begin to panic, and it just gets ridiculous. This ruined quite a few potentially awesome experiences when I first started smoking bud. I'd suggest focusing on something interesting in your surroundings. This provides a distraction, so the little men in your head will stop focusing on your heartbeat, and wander off in a daze, trying to figure out how the stain on that man's shirt got there. Oh shit, he's realized we're grillin' him. Load the torpedoes! Put the engines in reverse! But captain, we're too fucking stoned, we can't work efficiently! Besides, that man couldn't hurt a fly. I've known my father all my life, and he's never resorted to violence. He's a good man. Without my father, we wouldn't be eating a large buffalo tender basket with fries and onions rings right now. We'd be in the sahara.

Alright buds, don't give up, eventually you will either get used to it, which will cause you to forget it eventually, or you will learn how to trick yourself into forgetting all about it! Also remember, it happens to a good percentage of smokers, so you're not gonna' die.

that shit used to happen to me almost every time i smoked when i only smoked like once a month.

stopped happening once i started smoking a lot more, and now on the rare occasion that i do freak out, i actually enjoy it. my heart starts racing and after bugging out for a few minutes i end up glued to my couch or laying on the floor spinning in circles.

haha i hope i'm not the only one...

This phenomenon is happening more and more - I blame it on the hybrid types that are being grown - maybe not all of them, but a lot. While I admire the ability of these growers to push the envelope, their strains are just not "natural" anymore, and our bodies are telling us itâ??s too much.

This racing heart effect and feeling of impending doom rarely, if ever, happened to smokers with outdoor-grown, imported stuff years ago. Even the very strongest stuff, and best hash, didn't produce bad experiences at the rates and levels that the new types do. Anybody that remembers Thai Stick, various Hawaiians, and other classic sativa can attest to their pleasant qualities - without the nasty side effects so many people are having from a lot of todayâ??s products.

P.S. - I agree that "trip" is not a word that should be associated with the effects of pot. Maybe "trip-like", in some cases, but even that's pushing it.

well this happens to me but idk what it used to be like because when I started smoking that stuff was already out there. But I'm with you, I don't like the weed thats 99.999999 percent THC. It's getting harder and harder to find the regular weed too. But the high thc stuff is too much and too expensive.

Most of the time when your heart speeds up it is because you have either don't smoke that often or took a break. Or just never smoked before. It's really nothing to stress just try not to let it worry you too much.

It got to the point with me, due to side effects, that I needed a tranquilizer to enjoy even a very small amount - so I pretty much stopped because it defeats the purpose. I don't know if my age has much to do with it, because younger people are getting the same side effects. I just know that this wasn't happening until the past five or ten years - and it became pretty much intolearable for me starting last year. I call these hybrid super-strong varieties "Frankenstein" strains.

Even years ago, few people smoked the strongest stuff all the time. For everyday use Columbian was fine, and before that Mexican or Jamaican. Skunk was a good-enough replacement for these, but that's hard to find now also - probably because the suppliers can't make as much on it. Since they can sell a fraction of the weight of the super-strong designer strains for the same amount of money, why bother to carry milder varieties?

I'd grow my own, indoors, but I have very old electrical wiring and not enough room in my place.

I was once hitting 2 pipes of AK-47 at the same time, took like 4 rips off of each pipe. That was a mistake. I thought I was going to have a heart attack, couldn't feel my body, everything felt super slow and I couldn't move. That was the highest I've ever been, was a horrible trip, but yea everything turned out fine. Basically the way I look at it is if I'm high my heart is going to be beating fast, if I start getting paranoid it's going to beat even faster and harder. Just gotta chill and you should be fine. I hate bad trips on weed, I've had like two.

lol man when my heart starts racing.. I tell it to stop trying to get attention.. and ignore it.. it still beats like hell and the cannabis just seems to intensify everything. I still think of it like my heart is whining because of too much smoke intake too fast. so just dont pay attention.. it might still go on.. but wtf take the good witht he unwanted and tell your heart to stop crying. :]
