This year I am doing a little crop so I can fulfill my personal cannabis consumption needs hopefully for a long time. I plan on making a variety of extracts as well such as honey oil and bubble hash. If I yield bigger than I need I will give some away and vacuum seal/bury the rest for the future. Most of all I am doing this grow for fun. I am starting late so I will need more plants than otherwise however the smaller plants should be good from a stealth perspective.
Below is some summarized information on this years grow.
Strains
Indica Dominant
Golden Skunk
Early Misty
MasterKush
Sativa Dominant
Durban Poison
Thai Rain
Growing Medium
Sunshine Mix All purpose
Composted Manure (cow and sheep)
Black Gold
Natural Soil (relatively good quality)
I have various mixes consisting of some or all of the above.
Today May 30th I have finally received my Durban Poison and Early Misty. Germination began immediately. I am still awaiting Masterkush.
At present I have some Golden Skunk and Thai rain just beginning to break the soil!
Wish me luck.

Have you tried/grown the thai rain? I believe it is supposed to finish end of september was this your experience? How was the high?
As far a burying goes thats only if somehow all my plants make it and i end up with more than i need. I dont like having alot of weed on me. Im a light smoker so I dont need alot but I do like variety. Sativas for the day and indicas for the evening.. Im looking forward to making some nice honey oil and bubble hash mmmmm :rastasmoke:

Like I said I dont need alot. I have a numbe of spots with 5-10 plants so as long as I end up with enough to make a nice little brick top quality bubble hash, a couple vials of honey oil and a couple ouces of each variety I will be satisfied. Any extra is going to be given away to buddies and buried for future consumption. Like they say, plant one for the animals, one for the rippers and one for yourself. :smokin:

I am planning on taking precautions for animals. I was thinking of mothballs, possibly some sort of urine type thing and perhaps even fishing line in one spot. I also have mini greenhouses for the babies to help protect against insects. Im trying to decide on an insecticide as well.
Any recommendations?

I've never seen or smoke thai rain. But I have smoked purple thai and it is DEFINATLY one of my top 3 favorites. I LOVE the sativas.... As far as animals go, all you'll really have to worry about is rabbits and deer (or maybe moose in canada). Just pee on a tree somewhere near your plot everytime you visit and leave some hairs around your plant. Animals hate our smell. I'm not sure why you'd need mothballs... You can cut the bottoms out of milk jugs and use those as mini green houses. I'll protect baby seedlings from cold, drought and pests.

Update
I brought out 8 plants to their final location. Put 4 in the ground and left 4 in their cups. I put up little mini greenhouses on all 8. Unfortunetly 1 of the babies got a bend in the stem. I buried up to the break so hopefully shes ok.
I checked out an alternative route to another spot i have been preping and it looks like i may abandon it due to garbage near by ect. I actually was allmost lost in the woods for awhile right near nightfall but finally found the trail recovered my bike and just got out before dark and a huge downpour.
Hopefully the babies survived the violent rainfall. Lots more work ahead of me to get these ladies in the ground. My main spot is a bitch to get into and I can only bring a backpack of whatever in each time. There have been some germination issues with my durban poison and a few early mistys. Hopefully they pop soon. I should also receive my masterkush seeds anytime now:smokin:
Cant wait till my babies get established past this crucial stage so all i have to do is water, fert and enjoy! I saw a deer and rabbit today near a spot I may try some fishing line at one of the small patches.
Pictures will some soon...

Gonna be watching this one; I'm thinking of growing Early Misty next year, so I wanna see how yours goes.
And good luck, man!
Thanks!
Update
I got the masterkush seeds today!
I think I will veg the rest of my babies under some floros till the 3rd set of real leaves and then transplant. I hate putting new sprouts out right a way as they are so delicate.
good luck mate
best luck on Early Misty mines all fucked up with germination bullshit.

Thanks man! If my grow goes half as good as yours last year I will be a very happy man:rastasmoke:
Thats too bad about your early mistys. Only 3 durbans and 7 mistys germinaed for me so far :-(. I just planted 4 masterkush seeds no germination. Il probably germinate the rest tommorow.

Ive never had a problem with sprouts coming up after germination my problem is 6 or 7 of my durbans and 3 of my mistys havent germinated at all...hopefully they are just late. I tried just planting the seed with the masterkushso we shall see how that works out.
Got a floro set up today so my babies can veg a couple weeks before I release them into the wild. :D
I wish I had got the floros and seeds in april but this was a last minute thing. O well im sure I will yeild more than enough for what i need bbut it would have been nice to get them big and healthy before going outdoors.

Update
Went out to the site today. Due to the amount of time it takes to get in lugging enough soil has been becoming a drag. Good news is the natural soild there isnt too bad so I will use alot of it and bring a couple more trips with amendments. I also bought a larger hiking backpack.
I now have 8 babies in the soil and 30 something i need to transplant from cups. The oldest plants which are about 8 or 9 days are now on their 3rd true set of leaves.
One plant at the location had a eaten and or damaged stem. At one point the stem was so thin it was allmost nonexistant (below the cotylydons). Ironically it was vegetatively doing the best of the 8 i had outdoors. I burried up to near the cotys so hopefully it hangs in there.
BUGS
In one hole i noticed a blasck like half worm half centipede type thing..they seem to be hatching all over and i have seen leaf damage from them on other plants. I really hope they leave my babies alone.
AIRPLANE:mad:
There was a low flying plane that may have seen me in the field. I went near a bush and started pissing to at least divert attention. Either the same or another similar plane passed by again but i heard it and hid in a bush. I HATE PLANES LOL. Hope im just being paranoid and they didnt see me or put 2 and 2 together.
Right before I left I heard some voices that seemed somewhat close. I got into thick bush and as stealthily as possible worked my way out of the area. There are trails within a few hundred feet so hopefully (and likely) they didnt see me. It was hard to identify exactly where and how far away the voices were.
A few more trips and I can take a break and let mother nature do her thing for awhile:rastasmoke:

Went out to put more babies outside. I stopped first at an area I was thinking of putting some babies as I abandoned one of my previous spots....guess what I stumbled upon?
...
I found somneone elses grow lol. It was funny and madenning at the same time. I was somewhat mad because I cannot use that spot now. If I didnt keep looking around I could have easily planted right near thwe other dudes grow lol . I noticed on one of the trails after that there were some old dixie cups they must have left behind. So dumb to leave gabage laying around. I may have also seen another patch but in that one I wasnt sure if it was actually mj. If it was there was like 40 babies. The first spot had 5 babies that I saw. They looked kind of shitty though as its swampy soil and it looked like they sprinkled some blue ferts right on top of soil lol.
Anyway good luck to that grower.:hippy:
I then proceded to go to my main spot. I brought in some water and could only fit 9 babies in my bag. I got some more in the ground and watered the previously transplanted babies.
One of my spot I thought someone was there. It looked like my babies were dug up. What appears to have happened is a Deer allready in two days stepped right in two of my 3 holes with plants and killed 2 of the three :cursing:.
I replanted some other baby in one of the holes and put some sticks to hopefully deter another incident.
I need some help..whats the best deer repellent? I am considering some fishing line...any input appreciated:thumbsup:
O BTW here are some pics I took..first is a few days old the most recent are 6-9 day old babies.

They might be having trouble breaking through the seed casing? Have you tried putting them in a matchbox and shaking them around for a minute or two, to help them break out?
I read about it somewhere and heard that it works for hard to germinate seeds...
You'd probably be better off googling it or something, my explanation was pretty crap. :o
Also, how're you gonna go about watering them and stuff? Sorry if I just missed it, but I don't think you've mentioned it yet and I'm le curious...
Ive pretty much given up on them. I have soaked them a few days and i just planted the dead seeds incase they decide to come back.
As far as watering goes I will either just bring in jugs of water in a backpack or ive been considering getting a big camping water jug that fits in a hiking backpack. I will turn it upside down and attach a short hose with a nozzel. I can then walk around and water right out of the hose from the bag.
Either way once they get to 1 foot plus I want to keep visits to a minimum.
Thanks for your advice!:rastasmoke:

Heh, it's cool.
What I'm thinking about doing, when I finally get around to ordering seeds and shit...
Is getting some two liter plastic bottles, poking holes in the bottom. Then burying them, and filling them up with water every now and again. Lessen the need for visits, I'm finking. Any thoughts on that'd be mega appreciated.
Don't mean to hijack, LOL, sorry if I am.
So your idea is for the bottles to slowly release the water? Im sure it could probably work actually. Im personally going to give them a good mulch and just water every 1-2 weeks. Mulch can help alot with water retention.
Cheers

Moved 6 more seedlings outside. My one patch had 2 casualties...it looked like they had dried and shriveled up:mad: I really got to them all a good watering which I plan to do tommorow. I gave them all a light watering today so they should be ok. The plants i brought out from floros seem to be more healthy and larger leaves than the ones i put in the ground not long ago...i think alot of it has to do with them not getting a very good watering yet and some cloudy weather.
My next nearby patch I saw a damn deer dart out when i walked up..she was resting right next to them lol. My early misty there had significant leaf damage from bugs and the soil was very dry but at least the three were still alive. At my other patch they were doing ok but also very dry soil. Gave them a little water (only had 4 liters with me as i had palnts and soil in bag too), transplanted a healthy baby skunk and I have about 5 in cups awaiting transplant hopefully all tommorow.
So far other than germination issues I believe there have been 4 casualties
2 to deer
2 to heat/underwatering
I believe that leaves my total count around 35 plants. I hope to get a good 5-10 females by the fall...
In order to stop the soil drying I did a light mulch with the natural grass from the area. I also sprinkled my own piss around each patch from a bottle.I hope we have seen the last of the casualties and my babies can grow up fast!:rastasmoke:

I wish I could but its heat enough growing them under the floro and I have to go away for a few days so I need to get all the babies outside. My masterkush are still really fragile so im a little worried but hopefully they are ok. Maybe I should put them in a shaded outdoor area then transplant them when I get back?
Right now I have a total of 15 in the groud 5 or so in cups at final location and about 15 ready to go outside. I will do a better inventory within the week.
Can anyone reccomend a good deer repellant and bug spray? Im thinking of getting liquid fence and not sure on the best insecticide...
Next year if I grow I want to get them about 1 foot topped and sexed before putting them outdoors. I think this is one of the keys to outdoor success. The reason I started so many is because I did a couple grows years ago and remember the problems animals and bugs can cause.
If I can get 10 nice females by the end I will be completely satisfied.

Went to visit my fine fine ladies tonight. Went out late near nightfall. No signs of deer since i sprikled piss  No sign of bugs on early misty:rasta: Gave babies a thourough watering :pimp:
I brought more water than i needed ..brought 16 liters left six for another time.
Can anyone reccomend a good insecticide? Most plants in the field are littered with these weird black bugs...luckily they havent effected my babies..yet. TIA:greenthumb:

Update
Went out to my sites 2 days ago.
First site I had some very nice healthy plants. HUGE stems I was amazed after 1 week of growth. Nice and bushy. Didnt have my digi but I promise pics next time
Second site they were also doing well. I filled 2 holes with soil to add some babies from cups.
Third site ....him wtf I got there and there should have been 4 babies in cups but what i encountered was the cups scaterred around 5 feet from twhere i had then..One of my holes had a deer print and the plant was uprooted but still ok other than major root damage.
So weird...it was like a deer stepped in the hole and killed the one baby and kicked the cups all over killing the babies :-(.
I actually found 2 or three of the seedlings...replanted 1, one was all dryed up and i had other that i somehow lost in the grass lol.
Anyone ever had experience like this? At first I was like wtf someone found this site but who the hell would break up the cups and leave uprooted seedlings on the ground....i had 3 in the ground untouched and healthy as well.
I was tempted to dig em up an move them but I guess it must have just been some crazy deer.
Went to my fourth site and put all my little guys from cups in...put 12 in a patch and left the two shittiest looking ones in cups...they will go to spot 2 next trip.
I also have a spot 5 which is 500 kilometers away with 2 plants lol. Its in a fairly heat area and i just put 2 theree while on a trip for shits and giggles. I kind of hope they go to seed so i can have some cheap masterkush x golden skunk seeds.
Total plant count is now 31 in total. 2 are little sick shits and two are just being left far away so really i got 27 good plants going.
Lost 2 to heat/ underwatering and 6 to deer:mad:.
The survivors i planted awhile ago look VERY healthy. Lets hope I get a good ratio of females:rastasmoke:

I forgot to add during my last trip I found an old grow site and also some dbags left a bunch of evidence on the trail. I found old rubbermaid container with holes and a bunch of cups soil bag ect right on the fucking trail...What kind of idiot leaves shit right on the trail??? That other grow I found they did the same thing...perhaps the same idiots? lol.
Anyway I debated if I should move it as it heats me out somewhat but I figured best to leave it undisturbed. It looked like it was at least a year old.

I think beano was giving you a suggestion about how to keep moisture in the soil where the soil is very dry, and then he is offering a suggestion on your issue of the dead seeds when germanating.....
As for me and my suggestions... I use Sevin Dust to keep the bugs away, and the animals dont much like it either... but it will not stop them from walking all over your babies... just dont put it on the buds when they start to flower....
As for watering them.... get a camping solar shower. it is a large 5-10 gallon bladder that seals at the top, and has a hose with shower head built into it... stuff it into your backpack, make it where you can get the hose out the bottom, fill it, seal it, and then when you are your areas, pull the shower head out, and walk around and water....
I have used moth balls to keep deer away, but thats about it.... works great for snakes too...

I plan to go check out my spots tommorow. I really hope they are all doing ok as its been about a week without rain. Im mainly worried about a recent transplant of 2 babies and my most recent spot where they are small and havent had much time to develop deep root systems.

Went and visited my babies. All doing well. Saw 3 deer and some nasty decaying scary looking rodent thing lol. At one of my sites it looked like a 4 wheeler or something had passed by within 20-40 feet
One issue I have been having is some of my sites seem to havbe little trails..I would assume they would be gone withing a week but when Im close to the site its easy to see the entrance by pressed down grass. Any ways of avoiding thios other than visiting less often?
I gave my bigger plants some diluted ferts.
Here is an updated pic of the site I showed last time. They are very nice and bushy and smell great!
Ive noticed my early misty have been the tallest growing of all the plants. This surprises me as they are described as bushy. Hopefully they are not males.

I think most of those get direct light from around 8 am to 7pm some only from like 10am to 5pm. As long as they get at least 6 hours direct monimum they should do fine. The more the faster they will grow.
I kind of wish I didnt top those 2 plants now. One was an early misty and the other I think a thai rain.
Seeing hopw close they are to flowering (especially since I found my first male) I hope the topping doesnt effect them negatively.
As long as noone rips off my spots I should be in for a nice harvest come september :rastasmoke:. Im a little paranoid about little trails that never seem to go away even though I take seperate routes. O well as long as I get a few females I will be happy.

I prefer the term borrowing... jk.. I had part of a purple #1 plant stolen... I harvested this plant 3 times in 2 weeks to let the underbuds swell and after the second harvest some people came through cutting down trees and stole what was left (approx. an ounce of dark purple buds...)

I went to visit some of my babies today. I was expecting them to be monsters as its been nearly 2 weeks and there has been decent rain and sun. I was also a little worried that some males may have released pollen.
Anyway I couldnt find ANY definitive males and only 2 suspected males that i will leave for now. Hopefully i get no more than 2 more males..that would be an awesome ratio.
The plants were pretty droopy which surprised me. Also there was bug damage and it looks like a nitrogen deficiency on some of them.

Thanks man:thumbsup:
Update from one of the spots...
The early mistys are budding up nicely. I gave them all a good watering with bat guano tea 2-17-0 and put a good top dressing. I also sprayed them down with terra cycle.
I took a little sample bud from one of the mistys. I could not resist as they allready have trichomes even on the leaves near the buds :D

Pretty good ..nice up high didnt last too long but its VERY premature and it was only a pinner joint. Im really looking forward to the mistys as they are the earliest to bud, stinkiest and also have good trichomes only a couple weeks in to bud lol.
I plan on going out soon. My better plants I havent seen for at least 3 weeks so it should be interesting. I am however a little worried about the possibility of a late showing male (thai rains) so hopefully that didnt happen.

Went out to my sites today and have an interesting story.
My fears were confirmed and there were about 4 late showing males overall. didnt look like much pollen was released but looks like I may get some seeds at a couple spots. I pulled the males. There was one runt at my first spot which I believe was masterkush so I pulled it for an early sample and to give the bigger ladies more space.
I believe im down to 14 confirmed females at the moment and some tiny clones i had given to me which are so small I dont count them.
At one of my spots i was about to feed my ladies and then i heard some noise and saw a light in a nearby field. It was one of those quads i had seen evidence of passing through my field before. I threw my bag(which was full of males and guano tea) and then tried to hide. I then heard someone yell something that sounded like "hey". I booted it so fast through the bush over a couple fences and threw a field i then hid in some thich brush while I heard what sounded like a convoy of quads driving all around the area. I kept thinking that perhaps they woud wait for me at my car. Anyway I wited a bit and it was near complete darkness and the quad sounds stopped. Before I left my hiding spot I noticed 2 bags. When I looked inside the bags there was soil so now its a given that others are growing in the area.
I backtracked and then got my bag quickly fed my ladies and got the fuck out of there. While approaching my stashed bike I started to hear voices. They were coming from what appeared to be the far side of a nearby field. I steathily got to my bike and then tried to locate where the voices were coiming from. It sounded like 18-20 something year olds and maybe 3 or more people hard to remember.
It was almost pitch black to i got out of there relieved I was not busted and I dont think they saw me. I think it was actually the other growers lol. They were laughing and stuff and I just got the impression they were looking at their plants.
Man I was so scared when I first saw those quads coming at me in the distance but it all worked out. :rastasmoke:
Lets hope they dont find my babies and steal them. Anyway it was quite the exciting experience lol. :hippy:

I went out yesterday. Here are a couple pics. One plant was bening right over almost horizontal. That particular plant had some seeds from one of the late showing males.
The ones in the pics did NOT get fertilized. I took a sample off 2 plants..the seeded one and one of the top colas on a topped misty plant.
I plant on going back sometime in early to mid october to harvest the rest. I got a couple viable seeds out of the seeded top but most were still premature.
Cant wait for the next 2-3 weeks to fly by.:rastasmoke:

Thanks man! That is actually one of the early misties believe it or not. Described as a short mostly indica by the company :wtf: lol. They look much more sativa to me as well. Nice and frosty ladies with a good 1-2 weeks left i figure. Need to buy a magnifier.
It is actually a cross of misty (a sister of white widow whatever that means) and a early superskunk. Supposed to be Nirvanas most potent outdoor variety.
Anyway here are a couple more pics i took...im on dial up so it takes awhile to upload. I think 2 weeks for the misties and 3-4 weeks for the thai rains golden skunks and masterkush. No more durban poisons left they all didnt germ got killed by deer or turned male. The ones with the fat buds are misties.

Im thinking of harvesting the misties this week. I believe I first noticed little buds August 5th so I figure they are a good 7 weeks in at least. My site is far so I only want to go if I can harvest. The mini harvest last week was ok but could have been better potency. I want to let this get to its full potency potential. Based on the pics last week do you think the misties should be ready by now??

I went out yesterday to harvest my misties. It has been a good 8 weeks into flower at this point. I finally had picked up one of those illuminated microscops to check the trics.
Spot 1
As I approached one of my sites there was an issue that heated the place out so unfortunatly I had to abort. I believe I had 1.5 seeded misties there. And a bunch of unseeded other strains (not finished yet anyway). I had to leave and went on to my other spot.
Spot 2
This is the same spot I had pics up last week. As I approached the spot I could not help but wonder if they had been ripped this crucial time of year. It has been EXACTLY 9 days since my premie sampler harvest where i took 1 topped cola from this site.
Well to my joy they were still going strong. :D
I checked the trichs and it seemmed like some were clear some cloudy and VERY FEW ambwer. I wasnt travelling all that way empty handed so I took the 2 misty tops and left the bottoms to pack on weight. The thai rains, gold skunk and master kusk I took a small sample from each as insurance for next time. Also their trichs actually seemed to be getting cloudy but they have more weight top put on imo. Much more hopfully.
The description on the misties was ending in August..:wtf: ol and for the others Sept 17th to 27th. :wtf: I guess what they say about adding 2 weeks to breeders descriptions is true.
Can Stinky Attic, Earthy Dank or any other knowledgeble poster give me a good estimate on how far the others look to have?
Enjoy the pics:D...the small cola is the thai rain and the big frosty cola is an Early Misty that I chopped. :rastasmoke:
I think im in love:kisslove::yippee:

They looks great. I would say about a week or two depending on your preference. Its hard to give you an exact answer without a microscopic view of the trichs but it looks fairly close. I would give it a week and if you still aren't sure give it one more week then chop it. Better to harvest too late then too early. If you harvest too early it will be a heady, clear high but it will be less potent and shorter-lasting. If you wait too long it will become more lethargic and lazy but the long the buds go the bigger they get. So shoot for 10 more days. Or what you could do... is harvest in thirds... I use this technique on all my bigger plants. All you do is take off the biggest top buds that normally get all the light. Then about 4 or 5 days later get the buds under them. And then the last third of the buds about 4 or 5 days later. This allows 1) for you to let the little under-buds get direct light and swell alittle bit before you harvest and 2) it will give you a spectrum of THC maturity. I like this technique because it gives you the same buds with slight variances. This will also teach you when to harvest the particular strain you are growing based on your preference of high, Though ideally you want to harvest when most of the trichs are white as this is the longest lasting, best body/head high ratio... Since they are sativas though i wouldn't worry too much about the buds becoming lethargic.
Post some more pictures before the harvest if you can. Those early misties are sooo cool looking. I love the weird spikey sativaness with its long fat hairs... Very cool lookin flower... I hope everything goes well.. Good luck..

Hey Earthy thanks for the in depth reply. I agree about 10 days. I am thinking 7-10 days more.
I have tried misty. VERY POTENT.
Today I tried a little sample of the premie thai rain and WOW. AMAZING sativa. I was stoned for hours lol and its still not even fully ripe. I had just picked a couple lower buds that had mildew and man allready a great high. Smells like lemons. Time to try some masterkush...Cant wait for the next harvest..I get to try golden skunk which last visit was developing pink hairs :D
More pics to come...:bigsmoke:
