Yeah, I was really really high when I heard some of Lil Wayne's new shit. Now my iPod is overloaded with all the mixtapes and stuff lol. He does have good lyrical skills and nice punch lines, plus to me he's a lot more different than most main stream rappers which is what I like, I hate to see a lot of the same shit.

No offense, but I'd have to say that his lyrics aren't really very good at all. I don't have anything against him, I don't think he's too bad. But his lyrics definitely are not amazing.
If you wanna hear some real good lyrics, and an amazing flow, listen to The Coup. They've got videos on youtube, so use it :). Trust me, he's great. Definitely at a level way beyond those of the mainstream. Also, Biggie's lyrics are wayyyy better than Lil' Wayne's.
Oh, and if you want to hear some other amazing flow and lyrics, listen to Gangstar. It takes some getting used to, cuz it's a bit different, but nobody can say that his flow and lyrics aren't the bomb :).
Oh, and don't forget about Wu Tang ;).

its like he wastes his talents on songs that all sound the same but once in a while I still find a song of his I like

By the way, these guys aren't all about "pimping, bling bling, selling drugs" and stupid shit like that. These guys talk about real shit, and not about having shitloads of money and riding in caddies, etc. These guys are the real deal when it comes to rap...

I liked him a lot better when he was like 16 or whatever and already hanging with the big dogs of Cash Money. Now that's he's like what, 21-22, his albums reflect some "maturity" I'm not totally down with.
The lyrics have definitely matured as far as content, but it's like I don't really know if I want to hear him rapping about some chick compared to songs like Shine or even a more recent Go DJ.
Still though, songs off The Carter 2 like Fireman and even Receipt still sound good every now and then, plus the beats are still insane. That's prolly the best part about his work now, to be honest. Still can't beat a Three 6 beat though lol.

LOL, I've been listening to a few Lil Wayne tracks off this new mixtape 'Street Dream'. He talks absolute nonsense, but it's funny as hell. He makes no sense most of the time...his bars never overlap, but I still enjoy listening to him in some songs.
Me and my friend put him in a group with Cam, Jim Jones, and Juelz...basically the 'make no sense...just make sure it rhymes' group...still enjoyable, as we have a great time laughing the whole time rather than taking anything they say seriously.
A funny ass song from that mixtape where he's fucked up (on weed and syrup) is "Put Some Keys On That" a 'remix' to Throw Some D's. I laughed through the whole song.
LiveMixtapes.com - Free Streaming Mixtapes: Get It LIVE! (http://www.livemixtapes.com/) is where you can find the mixtape and listen to it from the site, but it's only half the "Put Some..." song, so you should DL that one on a LW-like program.
"Fuck Tha World" is actually a very good Wayne song though. And his verse on Cam's "Suck it or Not" always has me in stitches laughing.

Word. Lil Wayne is one of the few mainstream rappers I actually like to listen to and download.
I don't really listen to his mainstream shit. Da Drought 3 is one of my fav mix tapes right now. Also Blow: The I Can't Feel My Face Prequel is one that has a lot of good tracks. Rewind is one of my personal favs from that. One thing that's funny is that if you notice he is always high, no really just pay attention lol.
edit: If you don't like Wayne you just haven't listened to the right shit. Honestly he was only hot in a few tracks when he was younger, didn't really like too much until 500 Degreez dropped. After that I really stopped listening to him until earlier this year. He is my fav rapper because well honestly no one else is doing shit that I like and it gets repetitive listening to Tupac since he's dead and nothing new is coming out so yeah. My 2nd fav rapper though is Juelz Santana.
Oh btw here are a few tracks, those that say he really isn't good just tell me if you think these tracks are hot

Walk it out freestyle

u obviously havent cought any of the punches he throws at us, if you listen you will get hit harder than a blonde skydiving.
i mean the metaphores he uses are so amazing they flow wit the beat and lyrics(find some other mainstreet rapper than can combine lyrical skill with the beat instead of the beat bieng the main part of the song cause artist#1 cant rap so he has a tighter beat to save his ass)
even his older shit is good (lights out cd)

WTF you talking about son? What does your post have to do with? He says "put some keys on that bitch", meaning ki's, meaning kilo's of coca...do YOU know what he means? But, what the fuck does that have to do with anything I said?!? I just said to DL the song...wow...you're the one sounding like a bitch. You just mad, because I'm right about Wayne's ability actually being laughable most of the time? Some of the time he's actually trying to be funny, but most of the time he is just saying such nonsense that's it's laugh out loud hilarious...which I think is fine because it's entertaining to me. I would question myself if I actually took what he said seriously.

13 year olds and their love for unskillful rap. Really, though. The mainstream stuff like Lil' Wayne and what-not is mostly liked by middle schoolers. No offense to anyone, it's just something that I have noticed. And of course, there are exceptions ;).
But seriously, AgainstAllOdds, stop being a fuckhead. There's no need to argue about how certain musicians have better lyrics than others. Learn to calm down. Maybe smoke a joint, and chill. Who cares? :) Pot is here for you, my friend. Smoke it, and stop being an angry child.

06-12-2007, 03:19 AM
How do you compare a grown man with lyrical skills like his to middle school listeners. Sorry but I don't know any middle schoolers that listen to Wayne that could even begin to grasp what he talks about. They might just listen to it and say "yeah it sounds good" but I can't help that he's in the lime light right now and attracts everyone from people who listen to more than just the beat (like me), and those who are just trend whores. To say something like that you must not appreciate hard work. No he's not some great rock legend with real musical skill such as with the guitar and all that like Grateful Dead or who ever you may like.. but you can't just down-talk him like he has no skill. Lil Wayne has a giant discography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lil_Wayne_discography) that is still growing now no offense to YOU either but to call him unskillful I'd have to ask you to show me what your lyrics look like.

I just really overreact rather it be with sports, music, anything that requires skill when some one doesn't acknowledge it and actually sort of disrespects it. No disrespect to you at all honestly but I'm sorry it's impossible to even use the words "unskillful rap" and Lil Wayne in the same paragraph. Don't get me wrong, I honestly don't like his material like when he FIRST came out but most of everything after 500 Degreez was good even some stuff before that, but for the most part the newer shit is better. Lol it's actually funny to look at him when he first came out. He was a funny lookin' fucker xD.

Dude, I'm 17 and I love Wu-tang and Nas and stuff like that.. that's REAL good shit.. it doesnt take an older person to know that.... just a smart one lol.. lil wayne is funny with his style which makes it cool..
But this song.. 'Feel like Dying' from the Drought 3 is hilarious! "Playing touch football on Marijuana street.. err.. Marijuana field" LMAO he's obviously on some surd and weed... the beat is hot but what he rhymes about is ridiculous.. still enjoy it.. and he always talks about money and killing people.. although very entertaining.. c'mon.. wtf is up with hip-hop?

No doubt lil wayne knows his shit.. but it's awkward he changed his flow so fast from when he started out.. I like it.. but he's changed alot lol and it's cool.. but like Nas said.. "Rappers that only rap about keys is poison" Couldn't have said it better myself.. "One Love" is a great song by Nas.. and "One Mic" he has true hip-hop and lyrical skills are sick.. Oh and check out "Canibus Illest freestyles" on youtube.. trust me, if you appreciate hip-hop you'll love that shit!!! it's insane no lie o.o

Lil wayne is a very talented rapper, but the fact is, he is no match for the classic lyricists of the 90's. His shit straight up doesnt make sense, yeah he has good metaphors/similes here and there, but for the most part his raps are repetitive bullshit nonsense about the same damn thing, getting money and moving weight, we dont fucking care... I guess, compared to most of the rap today (which sucks) he might seem like a sick lyricist, Now if you take someone like Nas, or KRS One and pit them against weezy, they destroy him.

Lil Wayne is garbage. Seems like you either love em or hate em at this pt and probably depends on when you started listening to hip hop. I'm all about people liking different artists so I haven no problem with any of you saying you think hes nice.
Imo though, hes no where even close to a top 15 current mc. Off the top of my head: Nas, Hov, Jada and Styles, Sigel, Lupe, Joe Budden, Common, Mos, Kweli, Black Thought, Cassidy, AZ, Andre 3000, Em when he feels like rapping even after the wackness that was Encore. I could go on with better rappers but might as well try and put ppl on to artists.
Fuck it, just go buy Illmatic, light up and listen all the way through, that ladies and gentleman is hip hop.

EXACTLY! Illmatic is the PRIME example i use to friends that say that wayne is better than nas and older school shit like KRS one kweli mos def i dont know, wayne is good but cannot compare to earlier rappers. wayne has some sick flow, and we've seen it develop over the years, but the element his raps are missing is the flow plus the making sense, only real lyrical geniuses could pull that off, Gang Starr is a perfect example of that...

Tha Carter 3 isn't out yet. Do you mean the mixtape with leaked tracks that were supposedly suppose to be on Tha Carter 3? I heard none of those songs were gonna be on the album when it comes out. My fav though is Scarface, c.o.l.o.u.r.s, world of fantasy, dying, smoke that kush. Also a new song just came out that's good. Dr. Dre made the beat, it's called "Outstanding". Good track.

peace
But fuck that, you forgot to mention others that dominated on a freestyle/lyricist level, like - cannibus, big l, gangstarr, cormega, redman(yes redman is very lyrical and has bangin wordplay),,,,
a few more i can't remember... :rastasmoke:

No seriously Tha Carter III isn't coming out until next year. What you have is the leaked records that won't be making the album. You probably have this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Drought_Is_Over_2_%28Carter_3_Sessions%29) or this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Leak) cuz I have the same thing. They are really the same thing just different mix tapes. Read the tracklisting.
As for Tha Carter III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tha_Carter_3) it isn't out yet. Read for your self.

lil wayne sucks, sorry man but his lyrics are whack. Fireman? come on dude.
You wanna listen to lyrical genius? Check out GZA, Ras Kass, Rakim, The D.O.C., Chuck D, Ice Cube, Method Man, or even Skee-Lo. Rap died in '96 with 2Pac, I've been saying this long before Nas released an album on it.

Yeah that song soo hot, Outstanding that is. It's extremely good because of the beat though lol, the lyrics is good but Dr. Dre made the beat so you have to like it regardless, his beats are so raw. They also did a song over that "Poppin" beat by Chris Brown but that really sucks lol. Wayne suppose to be dissin' 50 cent because 50 cent talked about Wayne like so many times, he's trying to get famous again lol. Ever notice 50 cent's only good at attacking other rappers? :p

I think Weezy is good. I mean I just like his style.
Here are some of my favorite rappers:Three 6 Mafia(They commercial), Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, TI, Nas, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Souls of Mischief, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Blackstar, Tupac, Mr. Lif, Wu Tang, Kool G Rap, Kanye West, Bone Thugs, Akon, Dr. Dre, Snoop and Jay-Z(in no particular order).
If anyone has XM, the channels Raw and The Rhyme have some pretty wild shit sometimes.
And who is everyone rooting for come 9/11, Kanye or 50? 50 said that if Graduation outsells Curtis he will give up his solo career.
Oops, I almost forgot MIMs. I think his album had some pretty solid tracks.

lil wayne sucks he rapps about the funniest shit ever and half the time hes just spitting random shit now 2pac, biggie, jay-z, nas they got lyrical ability like they say stuff that u can connect with like 2pac when he says something u automatically have a connection with him ur always on the same page as him he accomplished something at the age of 25 that no one can come close to in a life time. biggie is probably the best lyracally talented rapper he says some riduclously funny shit like in the song running your mouth "As I release masterpieces like adhesive
Stuck to your ass, like tissue when your wiping fast" jay-z is a legend he has accomplished soo much hes the richest in the rap game lil wayne is good if u want a good laugh or when ur stoned like his verse from 9mm david banner featuring snoop dogg and akon " The 9 give me brains
But the AK add lever

Hard time giver
Im a shark in the water
You just Long John Silver" like wtf is make ur ass quiver like your naked at winter hip hop has become soo commercialized and soo shit the songs that are coming out now dont mean anything to nobody there just something to just make ur ass dance to there nothing but anthems now

lil wayne is the shit my friends. hands down.
I guess people don't like *real* rap anymore. Now rap is all about advertising. Rap nowadays, excluding a few rappers, is horrible. Lil Wayne uses his voice like an instrument? Nope, more like he uses his voice like a moron.
Does anybody know the meaning of real rap, real lyrics, and real flow anymore? Let me post some lyrics of Lil Wayne, and then some lyrics of a true rapper.
"Sky's The Limit"
Uh, Umm, Weezy you all,
Young Money, Cash Money,
This is, Da Drought 3
Ladies and gentlemen, you all know me,
You know I ride for my motherfunkin' *****s,
Most likely I'm gonna die with my finger on the trigger,
They tell me don't get high, and I should try to make a living,
I tell them I'm a hustler and I'd rather make a killing
My eyes is so wide as he watching the skillet,
I let my bitch bag it, if she steal it, I'm gonna kill her,
I bulletproof the ride, now I feel like armadillas,
And fuck you, hospital, young money, we're the illest,
And I ain't gotta lie when I tell you I'm the illest,
My flow is nasty, like C Y Phyllis,
Self made G, and them bitches know the business.
Relying on rap, but in the kitchen I'm a chemist,
And when I was 5, my favorite movie was "The Gremlins"
Ain't got shit to do with this, but I just thought that I should mention,
You looking for devine and the little intervention,
And them birds don't fly, without my permission,
I'm probably in the sky, flying with the fishes,
Or maybe in the ocean, swimming with the pigeons,
See my world is different,
Like Dwayne Wayne,
And if you want trouble, bitch, I want the same thing,
And you know that I'm gonna ride with my motherfucking *****s,
Most likely I'mma die with my finger on the trigger,
Don't worry bout mine, I'mma grind till I get it
And tell all of my *****s that the sky is the limit,
The sky is the limit,
The sky is the limit,
And tell all of my *****s that the sky is the limit
'Cause the sky is the limit,
The sky is the limit,
And if you look high, you see that I'm gonna be in it
The sky is the limit,
Buck Ten in the coupe, and your bitch love it,
Switching lane faster than she switch subject,
Tell a bitch don't talk to me,
And if you're talking to them *****s, don't talk for free,
And I hate when a ***** say talk is cheap,
'Cause I'm the type to let money talk for me,
My flow is art, unique,
My flow can part a sea,
The only thing on a mind of a shark, is eat,
By any means, and you're just sardine,
I got the 40 cal. Tuck in my p.r.ps.,
What do you expect, I'm from New Orleans,
And majority of my city is rowders,
They tried to make a brand new map without us,
But the tourists come down and spend too many dollars,
And no matter how you change it, it will still be ours,
And I'm gonna ride with my motherfucking *****s,
Most likely I'mma die with my finger on the trigger,
Don't worry bout mine, I'mma grind till I get it
And tell all of my *****s that the sky is the limit,
The sky is the limit,
The sky is the limit,
And I'mma tell all of my *****s that the sky is the limit,
Because the sky is the limit,
Yeah, the sky is the limit,
And if you look up high, you'll see that I'm gonna be in it,
Cause the sky is the limit,
And you don't wanna fuck with a soldier,
Use your head, or I'll take it off ya shoulder,
Run up in your house and shoot everyone that's sitting on the living room sofa,
(that's fucked up, ha ha)
And you don't wanna fuck with a soldier,
Use your head, or ill take it off ya shoulder,
Mail it to your mom, put a dozen of roses, (Now that's fucked up)
And I'm a G,
And you ain't gotta know the alphabets to see,
I know that my whole city is depending on me,
And I forget a lot of shit, but I could never forget the streets,
So you know that I'm gonna ride with my motherfucking *****s,
Most likely I'm a die with my finger on the trigger,
Don't worry bout mine, I'mma grind till I get it
And tell all of my *****s that the sky is the limit,
The sky is the limit,
Don't worry bout mine, I'mma grind till I get it
And tell all of my *****s that the sky is the limit,
Because the sky is the limit,
Yeah, the sky is the limit,
And If you look high, you'll see that I'm gonna be in it,
'Cause the sky is the limit,
They tell me don't get high, and I should try to make a living,
I tell them I'm a hustler and I'd rather make a killing
'Cause the sky is the limit,
Hands up in the air, because the sky is the limit,
Can you see me up there? The sky is the limit,
The sky is the limit,
If you don't know nothing about it, the sky is the limit.
These lyrics are utter bullshit, my friends. I don't see how you can be so blind to the complete lack of substance in these lyrics. I notice a big trend in Lil Wayne's lyrics is almost complete randomness. He talks unintelligently about one thing for two lines, and then he goes on about something completely different in the next, because he can't think of a rhyme that correlates with the two lines above. This is all such bullshit. Obviously some of you have never heard real rap. Don't you realize that mainstream rap is pretty much just advertisements? These rappers (if you can call them that) spit out materialistic bullshit that has no basis in reality. They boast about things they don't do, like shooting people. Trust me on this, I am a big fan of rap, but not this! This is lame! Nobody knows what the real deal is anymore. I'm not trying to insult anyone, I'm just stating the truth. These fake rappers always talking about cars and bling bling... it's all advertisement, rofl. All these people are out is to get money, they don't care about rap. They rap some lame bullshit that will appeal to a lot of people, and then their job is done for the time being. They're rackin' in the money then. You may say, "Well hey, nothing wrong with that." Maybe not, but then again, there is no actual passion in the music. They just act tough, and pretend to be rappers. Seriously, look at what this guy is saying. Pretty much all of his songs have little to no substance, and his songs in general have no main theme. It's just random bullshit. It's not hard to see, unless you don't value quality music. About Dr. Dre making his beats. I won't deny that, Dr. Dre is good at making beats. But DJ Premier would smoke Dr. Dre on those grounds any day.
In this song "Sky's The Limit," I have no idea what this guy is rapping about. Why do you all insist on listening to music that fosters ignorance and insanely ridiculous and lame lyrics? Seriously...
Here's one of the most popular songs by Gang Starr, but it is by no means the best - most of the songs in the discography are great. And Guru speaks the truth, not just lame shit like Lil Wayne and a majority of mainstream rappers.
No matta wat we fyace
We mus face de moment of trut baybe
Chorus: guru
They say its lonely at the top, in whatever you do
You always gotta watch motherfuckers around you
Nobodys invincible, no plan is foolproof
We all must meet our moment of truth
Verse one: guru
The same sheisty cats that you hang with, and do your thang with
Could set you up and wet you up, ***** peep the language
Its universal, you play with fire it may hurt you
Or burn you, lessons are blessings you should learn through
Lets face facts, although mcs lace tracks
It doesnt mean behind the scenes there aint no dirt to trace back
That goes for all of us, there aint nobody to trust
Its like sabotage, its got me ready to bust
But I cant jeapordize, what I have done up to this point
So ima get more guys, to help me run the whole joint
Cultivate, multiply, motivate, or else well die
You know I be the masterof the who what where and why
See when youre shinin, some chumpsll wanna dull ya
Always selfish jealous punks, will wanna pull ya
Down, just like some shellfish in a bucket
Cause they love it, to see your ass squirm like a worm
But just as youll receive what is comin to you
Everybody else is gonna get theirs too
I aint no saint, therefore I cannot dispute
That everyone must meet their moment of truth
Chorus: guru
Actions have reactions, dont be quick to judge
You may not know the harships people dont speak of
Its best to step back, and observe with couth
For we all must meet our moment of truth
Verse two: guru
Sometimes you gotta dig deep, when problems come near
Dont fear things get severe for everybody everywhere
Why do bad things happen, to good people?
Seems that life is just a constant war between good and evil
The situation that Im facin, is mad amazin
To think such problems can arise from minor confrontations
Now Im contemplatin in my bedroom pacin
Dark clouds over my head, my hearts racin
Suicide? nah, Im not a foolish guy
Dont even feel like drinking, or even gettin high
Cause all thats gonna do really, is accelerate
The anxieties that I wish I could alleviate
But wait, Ive been through a whole lot of other shit, before
So I oughta be able, to withstand some more
But Im sweatin though, my eyes are turnin red and yo
Im ready to lose my mind but instead I use my mind
I put down the knife, and take the bullets out my nine
My only crime, was that Im too damn kind
And now some skanless motherfuckers wanna take whats mine
But they cant take the respect, that Ive earned in my lifetime
And you know theyll never stop the furious force of my rhymes
So like they say, every dog has its day
And like they say, God works in a mysterious way
So I pray, remembering the days of my youth
As I prepare to meet my moment of truth
(you should know the truth
And the truth shall set you free --> from _whos gonna take the weight? _)
Verse three: guru
Yo I got one lyric pointed at your head for start
Another one, is pointed at your weak ass heart
Now if I pull the trigger, on these fully loaded lines
Youre gonna wish I woulda pulled a black nine, I mack dimes
Crack the spines of the fake gangsters
Yeah the bitin triflin *****z, and the studio pranksters
Yo lookin at the situation plainly: will you remain g?
Or will you be looked upon strangely?
I reign as the articulator, with the greater data
Revolvin on the tascam much doper than my last jam
While others struggle to juggle, tricky metaphots
I explore more, to expose the core
A lot of mcs, act stupid to me
And we have yet to see, if they can match our longevity
But anyway its just another day
Another fake jack I slay with my spectac rap display
Styles, smooth but rugged -- you cant push or shove it
You dig it and you dug it cause like money you love it
The king of monotone, with my own throne
Righteously violent prone my words bring winds like cyclones
Stormin your hideout, blockin out your sunlight
Your image and your business, were truly not done right
Throw up your he-allah-i now, divine saviors
You got no hand skills theres no security to save ya
No pager, no celly, no drop top benz-y
I came to bring your phone hip-hop, to an ending
My art of war will leave you sore from the abuse
Cause you must meet your moment of truth
First chorus
Just look up Gang Starr and hear some real rap - his flow wrecks Lil Wayne in every way possible.
Grrr, I hate all the stupid typos made in lyrics on lyrics sites.
