I'm leaving tomorrow morning to drive up to Lake Tahoe. I'm going to hike to about 10,500ft elevation on Mt. Rose and set up camp on the 1st. I am going to get aclimatized and used to the high elevation then on the 7th I am driving down to Mt Whitney and climb it on the 8th and 9th, spending the night about 7/11 miles up the mountain.
Has anyone hiked Mt Whitney? Anyone ever been there?

I am taking the hiking trail as my mom is coming. I would prefer to do the mountineering route but my mom would be a little clumbsy with crampons and an ice axe. Luckily the snow and ice will be melted by the 8th. The snow/ice melted fast this year so the trail isn't going to tough. Basically follow the path and hike.
I want to do the JMT sometime in my life. I hiked into King's Canyon and summited Mt Goddard and Scylla. Beautiful area.

Good luck on your climb, it's not for me personally, I prefer to get high without leaving the ground.
