Hello. I am interested in making my first homemade bong, and I have a few questions.
1. Does the bong need to have a carb, or do I get the choice between the carb and a slider? (I understand how to use each, but i don't really understand what it actually does.)
2. If the bowl piece were connected to an empty pen (this is where the smoke will be drawn into the bottle), should this opening in the pen be under the water?
Any other tips would be great.
Thanks.

You get the choice of a carb or a slider. All they do is allow fresh air to enter the bong and help you clear it.
And the other one.

ya ive made bongs with both carb and slides and personally i like slides better. now a carb is easier to use but the carb just seems so much cooler and it lets more air in to clear the bong. and with the bowl, just be careful wen you lite your bud because one time i didnt realize that the heat from the bowl was melting the plastic pen tube and my lungs hurt afterward and i threw up. so watch out for that

yeah make sure the bottom of the pen is in the water, i usually put it right to the bottom.
It is easyer to make a bong with a carb than a slider.

Yes. That's the difference between a bong and a piece. The water in the bong cools and filters the smoke making it feel much smoother.
EDIT: Try putting cold water and ice instead of just plain water.

A pen? Go to a hardware store and get a small piece of copper/ brass tubing........that pen is going to melt on ya REAL quick.
Have a good one!
