History of the Bong

Does any one know where to find it?

I've tried google but I did it half-assed so I probably wasn't looking hard enough.
Me and my biffer were curious. We tried to get my mom to smoke but she was having a REALLY hard time using the bong..which got me thinking, how popular were bongs in the 60's (or is my mom a freak lol)? But then Reb posted the 70's bong thread and now I'm uber curious.

if anyone knows, lemme know..if not..let this bounce to the bottom lol.

I just found something that says an African tribe, the Bong'om tribe..invented the bong specifically to smoke cannabis. But I'm more talking about popularity, I guess.

they come from the hookahs. They work the same way. Hookahs have been used for hundereds of years in Eastern europe, africa and middle east

Damn that article was interesting. Now I know the history of the bong :). It's funny to know they used to smoke it waaaay back then. It must have sucked not having lighters xD.

I dunno, my dad said that they used them alot when he was a teen and when he was in his 20-30's..then he just moved on to bowls and joints. I think it may just be a young person thing.

My time being a teen was in the mid seventys. There were a few different types that I can recall:

The Toker two looked like a glass beaker with a steamroller coming off the side. That progressed into glass single and double bubbles.

The U.S. Bong Company was HUGE! Alot of different styles with many chambers. Hard plastic with hard tubing connecting the chambers. This company, I believe, is one of the major reasons why the word "Bong" isn't permitted in head shops. They were the original I think.

The Geographix come in three sizes ranging from about a foot tall one chamber to a 3 ft. one chamber.

I guess hookahs were around too but I personally considered them more of a pain in the ass to maintain than the others.

I think the one that Rebgirl has is more of a late 70's issue.....they started taking ceramics in that direction. Kind of nice having the bud holder in the front but ya had to be careful not to get any backsplash from the stem or you got the stash wet. That was nice to pass around alot of people....just fill your own and pass it on.

I remember the toker two's. you could keep them so clean. And the Gold Bud tasted awesome in them. US. Bongs were big for a bit. Anyone ever see a Bill's Bamboo Bong? let me know if you have. he made Aluminum ones also. I had one years ago got confisicated if you know what i mean?:jointsmile:

Its an ok article. almost every sentance or statement contains the word 'assume' though. and it's not at all factual.

I'll be damned.........old school. You could get that Gold Bud for $25/ouce too! Barely remember the Bamboo bong, I was a U.S. junkie; kept the U.S. Freedom bong in the car with a mason jar full of water. LOL
