Hello all, I've been a long time lurker, and decided to grow again. This is my first post, and this was my last plant: http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/9210/img0038custom2st2.th.jpg (http://img163.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0038custom2st2.jpg) was so much fun to see her grow, and eventually smoke that I had to do it again. I made so many mistakes the first time, plant stretched quite a bit, but eventually recovered to a good looker.
Im about 10 days into my new batch, and I made the mistake of using Miracle Grow Organic potting mix. My seedlings are showing signs of nute burn, but on the flip side, they are growing at an amazing rate. I am going to transplant in about 4 days, I should have thought it through before i planted 3 seeds in each pot, I really didnt think they would all germinate, and now that they have, i have 3 really good looking plants, and 3 that are a bit slow out of the gate. I dont know if i should transplant all 6 to their own larger pots, or save the best 3.
Right now I only have 2 30w cfls, and they seem to be fine fore now. I am gonna go later this week and pick up atleat 4 more cfls and reflectors. I have also decided to grow in my air conditioning closet. It gets amazing airflow since its a large ac unit. We have a 2 story condo, so when a/c is on high, the airflow is amazing, and the temperature in the a/c room is a constant 70 degrees and i live in a very dry climate so condensation and humidity are no problem.
Hmm I cant seem to find the attach pictures button, maybe im retarded, so im just gonna use imageshack until i figure this out. Here are some pics of my current grow, day 10.

looks good you might want to think of seperating those seedlings before to roots get too long and tangle up!!! best of luck

yeah, i told myself id give them 2 weeks before i replanted them, but they grew a lot faster than the last time i grew, so i guess im gonna have to transplant them today. Time to make a trip to home depot

HAve you been foliar feeding, or are you misting them with water that has a lot of minerals in it? I see some residue on the leaves that is worrisome.
Yeah get them seperated ASAP!! Use a tablespoon and try to get like a dixie cup worth of soil around each little root ball so you dont risk damage.

I have been misting them, its probably too soon to mist. I think the light is just drying up the water that ends up on the leaves. The water im using to mist doesnt have minerals in it, its 2 day old tap water i set out. Thanks for tip of using a spoon, should i do it in complete darkness, i saw somewhere that helps the roots stay free from shock?

Its been a long day. my local home depot was out of reflector clamp thingies, so I only got one, and I found out it doesnt even fit my big circular light, but whatever. I transplanted all my lil ones to their own containers. The three biggest ones got an upgrade, and the 3 smaller ones, took over the smaller pots. I put them into their new space in my a/c room. Its probably a little cold in there, what temps do weed like? im sure its atleast 65-75 in there, and there is constant air flow all day, enough to make all my plants jiggle non stop, is that ok?
Anyways, here are some pictures: (also notice that all 3 of my big plants have.... "hulked out" of their stem for better lack of a word. I mean they literally ripped out of their old stem, into a thicker meatier stem, is this normal?) the only thing i can think of is that I gave them one drop of superthrive 24 hours ago, and a few hours ago is when i noticed the hulking. I circled it on one of the pictures, though it may be hard to see.)
Day 12:

Oh, and starting today, my apt also started smelling of skunk. I think the superthrive also kicked their smell hormones into action or something, because over the course of a few hours while was gone, to the time i came back, there was a huge difference in smell. I think i may have to make a carbon scruber thing.

Im thinking that the plants will probably be in shock for a few days since i just transplanted them, I hope not, I used the spoon technique, and i used my hands to make sure no roots were interlocked, and for the most part, i didnt see any roots within the dirt balls that i made, so heres hoping they dont get shocked

also, im thinking of buying New Wave High Output Fluorescent Plant Grow Light Fixtures by Sunlight Supply at Home Harvest Garden Supply (http://homeharvest.com/highoutputfluorescentsnewwave.htm) a 4 foot ballast/fixture with 2 bulbs, but im not sure which bulbs i should use. The 3500K (daylight) ones, for a total of 10,000 lumens, or the 6500k (cool) ones for the same lumen count, or should i mix it up? I mean i just want to make one purchase, and I already have a decent number of cool lights from the cfls, Do you think i need more light? keep in mind i have atleast 3 more cfl's im waiting to add on. I also added a 200w incandecent bulb, just because i had a lamp with a 200w bulb laying around, might as well use it.

Im just gonna keep it cfl's for now, I may get a 250 or 400w hps when the time is right to flower, but for now I added a few more cfl's Im up to 8 lights for my plants, Ill probably add a few more as time goes on.

So I think im ok now with the nute burn. None of my new leaves are showing nute burn, and the plant under the halo style flourecent seems to want to grow bushy outwards instead of up. The leaves at the nodes on that plant are starting to sprout outwards. Anyways, I may start to top soon, Should i top or LST, i think the plant thats growing outwards i may just top. Also when is a good time to start flowering, I know its preference for the most part, but can i start flowering to determine sex, then go back to a veg cycle? Would that mess up the plants? i dont wanna waste time and effort growing males. New pictures coming later

they are at day 20, while some did take a little longer to germinate, it seems a few have really taken off.

can anyone tell me what kind of marijuana it is by the leaf? or should i wait til the flowering phase and ask again, and when is too early to flower? do you think these plants would be too early? I want to end by august 31st. If i start flowering now it gives me 12 weeks til august 31st, do you think that is enough time, and is it too early, thanks!

id wait another week or two, they are very immature, i usually start flower at week 8 or 9 and, dependig on the strain flowerig can last from 8-12 weeks in most cases . its hard to determine exactly what strain a plant is at any time by looking at it , especially when they are so young

Thanks for the reply, i think i dont get many people looking at my posts since i dont have attachments. Anyways, I guess i can wait. I started to LST my two biggest plants, and topped the thrid biggest which had a the biggest node sprouts. I figure if that one is already growing bushy might as well top it.
My topped plant, which had all this undergrowth before topping, cant wait to see it take off.

looks like you are low in calcium there... see how the base of each blade is narrower than it should be?
check your soil conditions... it may be that your dirt is way too wet and theres an uptake problem, since the opthers arent showing it.

Hmm, I have been watering Bill the same as all the other plants. I dont know if its because maybe when the light got to close it burned all the small leaves? or do you really think its being over watered. The pictures were taken right after a watering, but i usually go 2-3 days between waterings, and I water about 250ml-300ml per plant. Ive tried to be careful not to overwater. I do mist them every night 5 minutes before the lights go out with just a few spritzes. I don't think im overwatering.

So far i have what I think is one male, Since males show preflowers earlier, thats the only plant that I think has shown sex so far.
As for the broken LST plant, its the one in the top left of the group shot, the one thats really yellow looking in the light.
And as for light, I have 4 23w CFL's (1700 lumens) and 2 150w edison (2430 Lumens) halogens. for a total of 11,660 lumens. Not great, but def not bad for as much as ive spent on my little project so far, which is under 100 dollars.
I think the only thing i can attribute to their decent growth is the fact that they are in my AC room and it gets a constant strong cool airflow 24/7. I dont think the temps go above 60 in that room

Just a little Update, I have found 2 males so far out of 6, and one confirmed female with pistils forming. I suspect that the other 3 will also be female, since they are taking a while to show sex. The males I found were: Kelly and Bill. Bill was really bushy too, so it kinda sucks he turned out to be male, and kelly was looking pretty good for a non LST/TOpped plant (pics 1 and 2).
pictures 3 and 4 are of the rest, with ichabod brining up the very top of the picture in the white pot, infront of him in the white pot would be gen. sherman who was involved in the LST accident, and then there is keyser and Pat, who I just LST'd both of them today.
I dont know if its a good idea to lst a week into flower, but whatever, they can handle it. I gave them water and nutes today, hoping to find out by the end of the week my final Male/female ratio. If it stands as it looks now, it would be 2 out of 6 males. so 33% males 66% females, not bad, but thats not final.

Damn, general sherman (LST accident victim) also just dropped some balls. So i have a 50% ratio. Oh well. 50% is not too bad all things considered, but it was the fact that 3 of my better looking plants turned out to be males. BASTARDS. Well time to work with what i got.

second, third and fourth pic are of my first female who flowered. Previously called Kelly I believe.
Last picture is of Ichabod, who was the first one I topped since it had nice bushy growth, and FINALLY showed signs of being female. Found its first pre-flower pistils yesterday. So I have 2 females and 1 unknown still, but heres hoping!

Just harvested, probably close to 3 oz wet, hopefully 2 or so dry. Not bad from just 3 smallish plants, and minimal effort. Just trying to find a good way to cure them now. I also got about 3 oz's of clippings im gonna turn into butter. that should be fun :D

nice.
but you will be lucky to get about an oz after it dries and cures. But you have to figure over 50% of it is water weight in the first place.
