What are screens?

I read someone say that they put a screen over their pipe. I've never used a screen, what is it?

its just a screen for your weed to go on in the pipe so that you dont inhale the ash or the weed. Its like a window screen for your pipe. that make sense?

its mainly for metal or wood pipes, they make glass screens too, but they are just little balls of glass with some bumps on it.

its a little round piece of metal mesh that goes in the bottom of your bowl fits any pipes and bongs//// you do not want to inhale bits of red hot hash it is very painful
