BBC NEWS | UK | Stop and quiz powers considered (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6695685.stm)
Read the first two paragraphs.
They say that the London constabulary is considering introducing powers to allow the police to stop and question you! I thought they already had the power to do that :wtf: No wonder none of them ever stopped me in the street and asked me, "Excuse me sir, do you mind if I ask, are you high on something?" :stoned:
Yes officer, I'm fucking high alright, is precisely the same crime responsbile for me having a smile on my face. :D
"The government is considering giving police officers across the UK "stop and question" powers under new anti-terror laws, says the Home Office.
The proposal, allowing police to ask people about their identity and movement, is among measures being considered by Home Secretary John Reid."

They do it anyway, in small doses. Now, there will be a lot more. Probably a lot more car stops too. This is going to increase our road tax (to subsidise for police wages etc), and also our income tax (to subsidise more police officers on the street). The police are using it as an incentive to make more money.
Thats my tuppence anyway.

That's always been their strategy, but I credit your day to day bobby with more sense than that, most of them. They are just doin their job, and they have their hands tied. I wish they would stop these noisy young lads in their sports cars, somehow i think it'll be more to do with the colour of your skin than the tackiness of your spoilers.

I'm in NOOOO position to be fucking them Jim. Though I did once enjoy sparking a fat one up in Trafalger square 5 metres away from a circle of riot police, and then standing up and playing frisbee with my mate several years ago. That's about as far as my fucking with the police goes.

Now its being criticised by civil liberties groups, predictably.
BBC NEWS | Politics | 'Stop and quiz' comes under fire (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6696673.stm)
Is this what happens in UK politics on bank holiday weekends? :wtf:
I'm just wondering, what stop and question powers that the police have, asides from when your a rapist or a murderer, or you've just hit an old lady or something, what powers to stop and question you are not a infringement of your libs?

The only ones that have to worry about stop and search are the ones with something to hide.

I remember a couple of years ago, the Sherrif for a small town in Arizona wanted police blockades every 5 miles on roads that come into the state so that the cops would randomly stop and search your car for drugs. Never passed though, because that's just complete bullshit.
