Just use 99% rubbing alcohol. Basically the same thing.

thcbongman is right... but missing something... just use rubbing alcohol and salt... it works just as well as formula 420, but costs about 1/5 the price... DOWN WITH COMMERCIALISM

Last time I used rubbing alcohol I found it harmed the paint on my inside out piece... Will adding salt to the mix prevent this or what? I know Formula 420 is supposed to be safe for your piece, but...

i never had that problem w/ rubbing alcohol... bowlsnapper?? that makes no sense because formula 420 contains rubbing alcohol itself... furthermore, liquor is contained in glass bottles... if alcohol made glass bottles brittle, then why doesn't most of the liquor come in plastic or do we hear incidents of the bottles breaking easily? Another point is that most glass is going to break anyways if you drop it... glass is "brittle" to begin with, and rubbing alcohol won't make glass so brittle that it will break if you smoke herb out of it...

Anywho... buy formula 420 if you feel like spending 8-10 bucks instead of 2... it's not my money but i have always used rubbing alcohol and salt, and i've had no problems.

by the way... it looks like your bowl "lost color" because it is clean... that's why it is clear... once the fumes and resin builds up again, it you will be able to see the color... no damage to the actual bowl

alcohol is safe for glass but not all acrylics. If you use alcohol on an acrylic bong it makes the plastic brittle.

What is Formula 420?

formula 420 is basically fancy, overpriced cleaner mix... they sell it at basically every headshop... it comes in a white container that says "formula 420" real big on it... it is actually a bluish liquid with some salt like (well i think it actually is salt) crystals in it... when you put it into a piece, you shake it around real good, and the crystals don't melt in the liquid so the little crystals gently scrape all the oils and resin off of the inside of the glass... dont' get me wrong formula 420 works great and leaves your pieces smelling real nice and clean... but it isn't worth 8 bucks... like i said it is like salt and rubbing alcohol with some other ingredients and blue food coloring.... try the salt and rubbing alcohol and then if your bowl still ain't clean... go buy some 420... but i think you'll be pretty damn satisfied... just tryin ta help a fellow stoner out... good smokin
