I'm currently growing in soil just because it was easier to get started that way. But now that my rooms are in full working order I'm ready to convert over to hydro. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good/ easy/ cheep system to use. Best mediums and any other suggestions would be great. I'm going to be using GH 3 part for nutes to start out. That much I do already know...

I thought about NFT... But, I'm leaning more twards a drip or aero system just because I'm not big fan of rockwoll.... I'm wanting more of a re-usable medium rather than disposable. That is the main reason that I am trying to get away from soil. My set-up is getting WAY too big and having issues on disposal of soil and like mediums.... I currently have 36 clones ready to be planted and looking for new system to work with that uses a more re- usable medium...

A drip or bubbler (DWC) is what you want. They can be made cheap and use hydotron rocks are reusable. drip systems (http://landmsales.com/drip_systems.htm). The six plant systems were what I used. Once you see one I made them for 30 bucks. Bigger ones just as easy. Go to slowes and look at rain bird and irragation parts and tubing. Gh is great I had very good results using lucas formula with just 1 part micro 2 parts bloom for flowering.

Superthrive is the shit but don't forget the cal mag plus it's a must.
The small rockwool cubes do well but you can go with peat pellets like jiffy 7 and split them wash in a bucket of water and just rocks. No mess.
Lets us know what's up and how your doing. It helps others too. Good luck.

Hey LOC. Yeah thats more the system that I am leaning tward is a drip system but Im looking more into using flood tables with a catch res. underneith for my nutes and letting it flow a few times a day. What is your opinion on a soiless mix rather than hydroton. Seems that hydroton would be easier to clean between grows tho.

As far as cloning I like the jiffy pellets like you said. not familiar with splitting them though. And my mamas I already have in a rain forrest aero set-up. works great. That was also why i was wondering about a larger scale aero setup for my flower room. but I'd like to keep things as simple as possible.

LOC: Read your other thread you have on here and wanted to wish you luck... And I'll be getting my systems set up here soon And am thinking of starting a Log in the Grow log section as well to keep you all posted on my progress. I'll be posting pics of my current grow as well soon...

Thanks man. Hydrotron is the most easy to clean but perilite is very good. You can drip to waste or to rez and recirculate. Use it in grow bags.

You can split the pellets and was off all soil then put in hydrotron or perilite and be totally soilless. Or leave them on works for me but i got used to 1 inch rockwool cube and hydrotron.
The thing about drip to a rez is you can leave it 24/7 with no problems.

Well, I think I figured out what Im going to do...
I'm going to go ahead and go with hydroton and do a drip to res for now untill I can get the resources to do a full aero set up... I've already got most of the equipment on hand to do about 4 DIY (Rubermaid) setups. 6 plants each.

Either that or i am considering doing a drip to res set-up using homemade flood tables lined with perilite and still growing in hydroton. Drain into res so I can still recirculate my nute soulution.

I just know I plan on doing a lot of camping this summer and well I need a system that I can leave for a couple/few days and not have to worry about them drying out on me.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
A couple other ?'s I have are":

1: What is the best way to clean hydroton between uses?
2: Should I leave my pump on 24/7 or just water a few times a day(say, 15min every 2 hours) etc...???
Would this system work with the perilite and hydroton with flood tables as I described above?
