"Nost notably, cannabinoids acumulate in the area of the brain where short-term memories are sorted. Every experience we ever have goes through this center. Some things- the image of a sidewalk crack you saw on a morning walk, say-get thrown out. other experiences, like your first date, get filed away into long term memory storage. Cannabinoids disrupt this filing system so that memories are not sorted appropriatley. In addition, people under the influence of cannabinoids may have a distorted of time and unclear thoughts. Another effect of caanabinoids is unrestful sleep. The brain sorts through memories during a phase of sleep marked by rapid eye movement (REM). people who smoke marijuana lose REM sleep time, which results in irritability the following day. Once the memory filing center is cleared of the drug, which may take days or even weeks, the brain makes up for lost time by having extra long periods of REM."
yeah,,,maybe 2 things are true in there but the rest is complete crap!

I've heard that bit about REM before...and I'm inclined to believe it too. REM is really interesting in itself too because it's when we have all our dreams. But it's also a lot easier to wake up during these periods of sleep for various reasons, so wouldn't that in itself make us "lose" sleep by waking up??
Haha I dunno I'm STONED cold and stuff. ~

I got it from my chemistry book but the point was for me that my sleep isnt affected at ALL from my smoking. And ive been smoking for yearsssss and my memory is still sharp.

Well I dunno if mine is completely unaffected because if for some strange reason I don't smoke before I try and go to sleep, it's like an ongoing struggle to nod off...Where as smoking puts me right to sleep most times lol...
I think the chem book might have SOME truth in it...

Lol I don't know. I mean every thing has a side effect. Sometimes I feel like that stuff happens to me. But it's not like it's not my fault, if I didn't smoke as much as I do I'm pretty sure my memory would be good and work well. Maybe it's true with some people. And maybe it is the weed but lately I am just not a morning person. I am so grumpy in the morning. But then again every time I wake up in the morning it's by some one shaking my shoulder waking me up out of my good stoned sleep to go to school lol!
I know short term memory is something that effects alot of weed smokers, and it did me too but not anymore. My memory is fine, i sleep well, i'm happy and they're wrong and dont know what they're talking about. I also dont belive the stuff about disrupting filing bullshit.

I have no sense of time anymore and think cannabis may be harming me in that aspect. Something will have happened two days ago and I will tell the story as if it happened a week ago until someone corrects me.
I sleep a lot better after getting high though. I think their may be some truth to that based on personal experience.
THat was ALOT of scrolling.

Yeah, I'm the same. When I stopped smoking weed I remembered dream after dream after dream lol. I liked being able to remember it. But everytime I smoke I never remember them :p. I don't even have them I don't think. I might have one every once in a while.

I believe it and have actually thought about it before.
Sometimes when I think of a song, or anything that I had heard or seen the day before....it seems like I heard or saw it years before....when in reality, I know thats not true

I didn't know my brain filed memories in that way, how jolly interesting. I'll file that away in my short term memory banks for a couple of days, and try to remember to move it into the archives later in the week. Who knows, perhaps I will come across an interesting and forgotten period in my life whilst I am there....
What a load of old cobblers, I don't know its like they'll make up any old crap to put people off it!
The REM bit... I dunno really, possibly. But I have heard some people say they don't dream at all when they are smoking the stuff and its only when they come of it that they start to have crazy dreams.
Me, I dream all sorts of crazy shit either way, and smoking cannabis if anything makes my dreams more interesting and allows me to explore lucid dream scapes and astral projection and stuff.
I sleep better on it, I wake up next day usually feeling fresh as a dandy when I smoke it.
It strikes me the arguments for and against cannabis have become somewhat polarised. On the one hand you have the people who smoke it regularly, like myself, who can't praise it enough for its panacean qualities, and on the other hand you have the rest of the people who don't smoke, never touched the stuff, and all they can say about it is crap like this.
The proof is in the pudding.

Fortunately, I could take care of that and did. Josh, just keep it up. You know what'll happen.

What were we talking about?
People bitch me out because of my detailed memory, I remember the things they want to forget. I also have a selective memory that can be promted with money or weed.
My sleep has been very restful for the past 7 years since I quit doing drugs and alcohol and only smoke marijuana. But I have not remembered a dream since sometime back in the early 90s even though I am sure I dream.

i dont know why but i remember all of my dreams , and i can wake up, go get somethin to drink and go back to sleep and keep dreamin where i left off for some reason, but i gotta have my eyes closed while im walkin around or ill come back to reality,,,,, so the unrestfullness isnt a factor to me, but i have a lot of that word , de ja voo or however you spell it associated with alot of the dreams i have in the rem sleep , ,
and i dont know why but hte earliest memory i have is when i was 3 and i was tryin to catch a butterfly with a net,,,,
but weed is good, helps me sleep:thumbsup:

I dunno it seems somewhat true. I know there MUST be a correlation between REM and cannabis though. I NEVER remember my dreams if i've been smoking a lot. When I take breaks I tend to have a lot of vivid dreams. Now what cannabis does to memory i'm not sure. I think it allows people to notice details and see the big picture, allowing them to relax from the little troubles and stuff in life. It deffinatley helps me concentrate by filtering out a lot of little annoying thoughts I tend to have.
