its like a five week course of class-room work and on the road lessons. i dont think its too difficult to pass that, and you'll probably get job offers when you start the schooling.

BUT, you have to have a damn near perfect driving record and they will for sure drug test.

Yep,,,drug testing is a biggy... the toughest thing I believe is backing up an articulating piece of equipment,,,if you are good with boat or car trailers and it comes natural for you then it's a peice of cake...

my brother just got his CDL about 3 days ago. All hes done is drive short(er) drives in the truck, but he loves it alot already. If you dont have a family, then truck driving may be the thing for you. I wouldnt mind trying my hand at it someday, but the last time I drove one of those things, I fuckin cried.

Freewheelingfrank is a retired trucker... maybe he'll stop by with some tales of life on the road.

I gotta say, don't even THINK about carrying the Shrek with you. DOT can come in and do whatever they want at a weigh station. While you have a CDL, they OWN you. You get caught playing mule, you're fucked. If that's why you want to be a trucker, so you can take weed all over the place, consider a vehicle that ISN'T required to stop for weigh-ins and logbook checks, and a license that doesn't have a zero-tolerance clause attached.

I thought I loved the road too, that is until I travelled 1600 miles in a week in a truck with my uncle. Those 14-15 hours days are literally a pain in the ass... Pretty much the same as everyone has mentioned previously - good pay with free travelling on the way to the destinations, strict regulations, better for the loner types, et cetera.

Oh yeah almost forgot about all the crazy mother fuckers you'll meet along the way. Every day holds a new surprise.

my dad was a truck driver when i was little. it made his back hurt and he was gone a lot, thats all i really remember. but he keeps saying how after he retires from fixing cars, he wants to start driving again, for hiis friend bobby. so i guess he liked it. the idea of the open road sounds great. i love taking long drives and smoking on the way, all by myself. maybe even with a little dog to keep me company
