View Full Version : Germination: WTF!?

A couple of my seeds starting cracking open and revealing a root about 2-5 days after starting germination. Today is day 6, I believe. Some people have told me to give the seeds about 2 weeks at the most, but is that even possible? I realize all seeds are different, some will germinate, some won't, and some will just germinate when they're ready. The seeds are officially a living thing when they start undergoing germination.
Planting seeds after 6 days of germination, though they haven't cracked open at all, seems kinda pointless seeing as how they can be deprived of oxygen and such.

Keeping the seeds warm will help them germinate faster.

Should I stick them under a lamp then?

"Planting seeds after 6 days of germination, though they haven't cracked open at all"
The above statement contradicts itself. Germination is the process where the seed begins to grow not the process you put it through to make that happen. If it has not done anything yet, then it has not started germinating.
If you have been soaking or toweling the seed for 6 days and it has not started to do anything, your temps might be too low.
Shoot for soil, towel or other medium temps in the high 70 s
A heating placed pad under a cookie sheet and the cups, containers, or germinating medium on top of that might be a way to raise the temps.
You can plant seeds directly in soil without germinating them first. Just wet it thoroughly when you plant and then keep it moist until they pop through.

I shoot for temps around 80-85. I just put it on top of my monitor where it vents its heat and then leave it on. And putting a seed in a wet paper towel is germination lets not split hairs.

seeds with slower germ rates often grow slower r weaker n yield less though 6 days isnt long
moist n warm throw em out next week
