"All the planet is vibrating" from the quake, said Enzo Boschi, the head of Italy's National Geophysics Institute. Speaking on SKY TG24 TV, Boschi said the quake even disturbed the Earth's rotation.

Howdy Resinate,

Yes...it does put our problems into a different perspective..I said a prayer,as soon as I heard of this terrible tragedy...they'll need all the help from God,that they can git. More than 22 times the population of my town,died..Lord have Mercy !

More than 22 times the population of my town,died..!
Shit, Torog...when you look at it in those kind of relative terms, it really hits home...harder...
Last I looked, the death toll is believed to be 15,000+
I guess that would equate to a few times the population of the town in which I live, too..

*pfft*...gone....just like that........

Man, you just never know, don't it!

I think that is why I cannot completely give up on life, you know... I look at the problems that I have in my life, but am sooo mindful that compared to some people...my problems are NOTHING.
I can only imagine what those poor people are going through in Asia.

As you know, Torog, I don't have religious faith...but I do have a human compassion. My thoughts are with them, as much as yours are.

Res...

Howdy Resinate,

You stated:" As you know, Torog, I don't have religious faith...but I do have a human compassion. My thoughts are with them, as much as yours are. "

I have no doubt-that your thoughts and best wishes, are with them..many of us,don't realize, just how many blessings we do have..we should all be more grateful than we are..and be humbled by tragedies such as this one.

Have a good one...Torog

This is a horrable tragedy. Hopefuly it will spur the installation of early warning systems so the next time people can be prepared. I hope that they will never be used though.

I don't really think that we realise how hard nature can strike sometimes , even with a warning it would be almost impossible to evacuate all areas.
The toll is now believed to top 20,000 and there are fears it will just continue to grow , the only thing that can be done now is to alleviate the suffering a little for those left behind.

In time we may devise ways to protect ourselves but we all crumble when confronted with nature at it's most devastating.

The enery from a quake like this is much more then anything man could do.

NPS said this morning that the quake caused a part of the Berma plate 600 miles long 100s of feet wide to raise between 10-15 feet. I could not even comprehend how much enegy that this would take. An early warning system could have detected the raise of a few inches out at sea an hour before the wave hit shore. People could have gotten at least a few miles inland in that time by foot. Sure their homes would have still been destroyed, but the loss of life would have been greatly reduced.

Just got word that my friend's parents are safe. They left Puket the day before and were in Pattaya when the tsunami hit, thankfully. Heaven help the other poor souls, the pictures on Sky news are soul destroying. And I agree, it definately puts all our own problems into perspective. Thank God for my children, my family and friends, our homes and all our other many blessings. We truly are the lucky ones.

40,000.....:(

Yeah, I've always had a healthy respect for the power of Nature.
For all our intelligence and understanding, we still fail to recognise the damage that we cause to our fragile Earth...and the damage that Earth can exact upon us.

The cycle continues as it ever has...

Harmless parasites? All humans around the globe are parasites. The Bankok river is one of the dirtiest polluted rivers on earth, people everywhere destroy the earth.

Little mixup for the Asian people who very sadly lost their lives. They are going to have to change a few things. That is exactly what Americans need.

Lulu

They say the death tole is expected to continue to rise for at least the next few days and will most lightly double due to disease and contamination.

At this stage we need to give cash - Wotever you can no matter how small. Let's try to make a difference here. :(

That's bad to here.. All those death's. Then mother nature turns around gives us some snow.. Level 3 ice storm. By the next morning where left in the house with no lights or heat.Since everything in my house is electric wouldnt work. Started getting very cold. Had to stay at a motel for almost a week.. I even stay in the motel for christmas. It was so crappy. These things reminded me of the movie " Day after tomarrow " Flooding..Snowing.Knocking out power. I thought the world was coming to a end. But these things happen. Just hope it dont always happen..
