I was wondering, if you have or have had a legal recommendation to smoke weed would that interfere with eventually working for the government (heh?) I'm in school to become a court reporter (stenography) and I would be extremely pissed if later down the road I apply to work in a court and my past history with using marijuana for medicinal purposes interferes with that...any input would be much appreciated

I wouldn't know the requirements of the court system itself, but I worked for years for a defense contractor and know the procedure of how they run background checks. It depends on what type of court and cases it handles. Example, if you'd work in a FISA court, you'd require the highest security clearance in the land.

I'm assuming the minimum clearance for a court reporter would be a public trust. Not only do they ask about drugs, they ask you to detail everytime you used something, whether you manufactured or sold. Compared to the average jobs out there, it's a vigerous background check that requires you to be fingerprinted, and essentially signing your life away, your medical record becomes an open book, school records, even what you rented at the library. You can't do anything to fight it, because you are authorizing it.

This is essentially a grey area. If you are in California, the state would recognize that's okay. The federal government won't. If it's any background check (SPF85 or higher) you are going to have some issues. I couldn't tell you for certain whether they'd deny you, but it will definitely cause some issues.

My advice? Don't post your picture, or any information that would be able to identify you on cannabis.com. Stay out of trouble, and I think you have a fighting chance.
