IRC Channel...

Hey,
if i was to start a irc channel for Cannabis.com would people use it? i could easily set up some bots and keep a chan going if people would use it.

i know that we already have a chat, but i for one cant access it and irc has more features.

i know the admins are worried about abuse but i can code bots to stop spamming.

Of course the mods and admins could have op and half op.

tells us what u think.

Well as long as it's still up I'll be using it. The more the merrier, and Ground_Zero set up a 1337 bot with nifty features that amuse me :D. See you guys there (hopefully).

You need to have an IRC client installed for the link to work (the link opens the default IRC program installed on your computer, if any, to the server and channel needed).

If you don't have an IRC client like X-Chat or mIRC, the link won't work :(

IRC is on the way out. It was designed back when the net was a totally different place than it is now.

Many web-based chat server programs no longer even support IRC.

In regards to the Java chat ... Java needs to be enabled along with JavaScript (Active Scripting) in web browser.

And also connecting may take upto 5 minutes - especially for dialup folks; don't open any other windows, etc during loading.

Lastly, there is a possibility that some folks don't have Java on their computer - we are working on a help page to direct folks without Java to a source where they may download it.

Mirc isn't the easiest program to use - and leaves folks exposed to potential security risks ... not from the program itself (it's relatively secure these days), but rather some of the functions can be too easily abused ... DCC (file transfers), etc; steep learning curve.

If one wants to create (already has) a cannabis.com IRC channel, that's cool :-)
