Whats the agenda of the school system now days....seem kinda of odd to show this film to grade school IDK just seems kinda odd thats all im sayin.

A suit was filed on behalf of a 12-year-old girl who claims she suffered psychological distress when a teacher showed in class the gay-themed movie "Brokeback Mountain."

The girl, Jessica Turner, and her grandparents Kenneth and LaVerne Richardson, are seeking more than $400,000 in damages under the suit filed Friday against the Chicago Board of Education and others.

In her lawsuit, a 12-year-old girl claims she suffered psychological distress after watching "Brokeback Mountain."

According to the suit, a substitute teacher introduced herself as Ms. Buford to Jessica's class at Ashburn Community Elementary School, 8300 S. St. Louis Ave. She then said, "What happens in Ms. Buford's class stays in Ms. Buford's class," the suit claims. Buford then had a student close the door, and started showing the controversial R-rated film, which features two men engaged in sex.
The suit alleges Ashburn's principal, Jewel A. Diaz, was aware that the tale of the love between two cowboys set in the West of the 1960s was being shown to the minors.

Turner later told her grandfather that she was confined to her seat and felt she could not leave the room, according to the suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.

The plaintiffs accuse Diaz, Buford and the Chicago Board of Education of negligence, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The suit claims Jessica continues to suffer from emotional distress caused by watching the film and is currently undergoing psychological treatment and counseling.

the suing is sickening, but why on earth would you show that to little kids? i mean they don't fully butt fuck but still, you can't choose to show something like that to someone else's children

and then of course the her guardians are only using it to get money; how is that 400k going to help the little girl?

and lastly i can't help an have a tiny little chuckle about "mrs. X, what are those two cowboyz doinnn?"

Yeah, that was an idiot thing to do on the teacher's part, but I don't think it warrants 400k, that's just ludicrous.

Hopefully they get at least half of that. Our children are already conditioned. When is enough?

I think the only bad part was the fact that it was an R rated movie. But I don't see whats wrong with showing gay people. Who cares? They teach about male female relationships at an early age shouldn't they teach about gay ones too? I mean their people too.

Its not the fact that its a gay movie its the fact 12 year olds should not see an R rated movie in a class room its just wrong. Now if these kids want to see an R rated movie they should do what we use to do a sneak into a theartre and watch it.A teacher that stupid should not be allowed to teach.

they dont teach about same sex relationships in school (sex ed)
well not yet anyway.
it would confuse any young kid. how much it confuses them, depends on their age.

I think it's crazy. I'd be pissed if it were my kid. but:hippy: live and let live

While I partially agree that an R rated movie didn't belong in school, I's also convinced this is nothing more than a feeble attempt to make some money. Perhaps perceptions have changed since I was that age, as indicated by studies showing age 10 to be the new 15. If her parents let her watch R rated movies at home, then the forceful complaint is baseless. Punish the sub, but for the love of god, don't give these money grubbers a dime.

Honestly, what could Brokeback Mountain have to do with anything these kids are learning in school? Its about to gay guys falling in love in the west in the 1960s. Really, how can that relate to anything these kids are learning in class. Dumb ass teacher. That movie shouldnt be shown in class. First of all its rated R. Second of all it deals with sexuality. Be it homosexuality or heterosexuality, fucking should not be shown to kids in middle school. Maybe some diagrams as to how the penis and vagina work but come on. Althought i gotta say the girls family is pretty retarded. $400,00 ??? Are they mad, do they really think they will get that much money?

that's a bit much to ask a little girl when the teacher tells you to watch the movie

in highschool a friend and i didn't want to watch a film because of content, so we just went and studied in the library, but had to fight a bit for it; can't expect a little girl to do that

studies showing age 10 to be the new 15

this is a frightening truth i've noticed growing up; kids these days are babied all through high school and then come out like children into college or work

She had the choice to "watch" the video or not, i remember when i was in sex ed in like 7th grade, i didnt feel like watching a woman give birth on tv, so i just put my head down and took a nap... i since have grown up since then and am a proud father, but still, its just the point.. suing in this country has gotten way out of hand... next time someone looks at me wrong, im gonna sue them for emotional distress since im depressed! damn our country is full of idiots... what next?

yeah suing has gotten outta hand, look at the dumb bitch who sued McD's when she dumped her cup of coffee in her lap. didn't the stupid broad expect the coffee to be hot?

this is why other countries fuckin laugh at americans, we are to stupid to think for ourselves and we are greedy as hell, though not everyone, just a majority. people are busting their ass in other countries only to make the equivalent of $5-10USD while we here in america will try to sue someone for something that was our own damn fault. it's stupid and time for people to grow up and accept the consequences of their own god damned actions! hmmm i need another pepsi, i'm feelin a bit stressed out now :D

ok. we live in america, where tv is FULL of sex, blood, drugs, violence etc... and thats not limited to HBO channels, just check the news.

if this little girl is still in need of therapy for seeing one film that tastefully shows a gay relationship .... that sounds like a family full of homophobes looking to leech off their daughter and the untolerating lifestyles.
granted, the movie is way to mature for any group of 12 year old.... as would ANY RATED R MOVIE OF ANY THEME, not just gay themed.

we wonder why we have people trying to attack our country.. its being run by a bunch of rich idiots.. whoever has the most money controles everything.. its fucking retarded, what happened to all the fundimentals our country was founded on, freedom of speech, now you cant say that you hate the president without the FBI investigating you as a terrorist, freedom of press, when our news is so sensored, that the message we get is so dramatized, and bias, its nowhere close to the actual event, freedom of relgion, when if your muslim, you get thrown in a computer, and get your house torn appart and a bunch of shit like that.. all of our constitutional rights are being slowly pried from us one by one, and we stand here and alow it! the voice of the people cant be heard if noone is willing to stand up.. and without that voice, these capitalist mother fuckers are going to keep ripping away all of our rights, and controling every aspect of our lives! ungrateful people expect everything handed to them, and its everyone elses fault when soemthing goes wrong.. what happened to working for what you wanted instead of having it handed to you on a gold platter? thats all were doing to these people if we alow them to win this court case, handing them a large pile of filthy money that they dont need, nor deserve.. i think all that money they win should go right into the education system personally. and it better go to a school that needs it, not to the school with the newest of everything. when kids no days are learning out of 10 year old text books, and a few miles away, other kids have brand new laptops handed to them because its the "better" part of town" BULLSHIT! our society sucks!
im out later:jointsmile:

when i was 5 years old a teacher at the primary school i went to, who not only locked me in a cold pitch-dark closet for the duration of a 1.5hour lesson, sat my entire class down to watch a movie. low and behold it was "salems lot" fucked my head up for a further 5 years. nothing could be done though because back in the 80's and in the uk, there was no law for suing against this. we got all that suing bullshit from america.

i look back now and wish i could inject a thousand micrograms of lsd into his head and make him watch every horror movie i can think of. but...he died of old age a few years back so i heard. (i'm 26 now and no, i'm not psychologically disturbed)

sucks though, who in their right mind makes kids watch such movies.

It pisses me off, what are they teaching these kids, sitting around watching r-rated films when there supposed to be getting a good education reading, writing and maths.
i can understand that it would upsetting to some and confusing.

When i was 9, we where put through sex ed and they showed a film of two people having sex on what looked like a table with a black sheet over it and after that we were shown a cardboard cutout diagram of a mans penis going into the womans vagina my mum said i did not talk for 2 days.

I am now 28, i'm not a prude, i fucking love sex. but it really fucks me off they have to show it to kids that are so young. it's not wonder there is a mass of 12-15 year old kids getting pregnant.

i think in the year 2010 the younger generations will be aspiring to be porn stars. lol

shows their greed. Instead of asking for money they should punish the teacher.
