LAS CRUCES -- An El Paso man is behind bars after the seizure of 4,910 pounds of marijuana by the Las Cruces-DoA1a Ana County Metro Narcotics Agency.

The marijuana has a street value $6 million, the largest bust in the agency's history, an official said.

"The seizure was part of a three-to five-week-long undercover investigation," Sgt. Joseph Gonzales said.

El Pasoan Arturo Flores, 49, was arrested Thursday at 336 Paseo Real in Chaparral, N.M.

Inside the residence and a 1998 Chevy panel truck that Flores was driving, agents found the marijuana in shrink-wrapped bags inside 125 boxes, Gonzales said.

Gonzales said agents were still investigating where the marijuana came from and where it was headed.

Flores was charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, a second-degree felony.

He was booked into the DoA1a Ana County Detention Center and held in lieu of a $100,000 cash-only bond.

Gonzales said it was the largest bust for Metro Narcotics since 2,800 pounds of marijuana was seized five years ago in Santa Teresa.

"It's the largest I can remember from any agency in the area," Gonzales said.

u can build a house with 125 boxes...thats just an incredible amount...anyone else think theres a slight possibility that the fuzz inflated the number to take credit for the biggest bust ever?

Police estimates are generally exaggerated when it comes to the value of it. If it was that much weed, it's probably schwag.

Ya that area will probably be dry, but thats what you get when you deal in those high amount.

Everyone would be fine if they were allowed to grow like 10 plants in their own home.

nah, that topic was from almost three years ago ;) haha

Anyway, I did the math and 5000 pounds adds up to 640,000 eighths... bummer.

There was a bust of 3000 pounds near St. Paul, Minnesota a few weeks ago and the weed was being transported in a truck full of candy and the 3000 pounds of weed was hidden underneath 40,000 pounds of candy!

That would be 125 boxes @ 40 pounds each at a street value of $1500 a pound that would be about $7,500,000 USD and about $60,000 per box. To put that in perspective with about 3 boxes you could buy an average median house priced 175-200 grand.
