View Full Version : Menstrual Blood as fertilizer?
Cheebamonkey
05-10-2007, 03:40 PM
My wife has been using a diva cup instead of tampons or pads, and suggested using it as a fertilizer. Has anyone done this before? Results? And as far as application, should it be dilluted and applied during a regular watering? Is there a time when it's application would be of most benefit (veg/flower/on her once a month schedule)?

I imagine a LOT of our fine young growers are going "EEEEWWWW!!!! Gross!!!" But there is, in reality, little difference in using dried blood meal or menstrual blood as a fertilizer, providing your GF is healthy. Considering "mad cow disease" and all the hormones, antibiotics and stuff they feed cows and pigs nowadays, it might even be safer! I'd mix it with water for ease of handling and use it just like I would blood meal. - Granny:hippy:

well.....as gross as it sounds, and though i would never do it, it is a great fertilizer, and actually deters bugs and such..they make something called the keeper for collection.....
this is something that has to be fresh, you shoudnt "store" it...and personally, i wouldnt use it on edible things....
lastly.......it is said that this is a big help to indoor grows, not so much to outdoor plants and such....
id be interested to know what you decide, and how it goes...please let us know?

My wife has experienced the same change in her flow, much heavier than before we had kids. She is healthy, eats only organic from our farm, no hormones or birth contol pills, and I trust anything out of her body over something store bought. Sorry to gross some of you out, but blood and shit are the best organic fertilizers there are, call it guano or meal or whatev, you know what it really is! I will flush the plants towards the end of course, plan on using a dilluted mix with water, and will probably do it every 28 days as is provided fresh. I'll post my results later. Thanks

The resulting bud, when smoked, will provide a mild tingle sensation in the penis, before the genitals retract into the body.
And then what do you have?
A vagina.

Sounds like it would be worth trying to me, I know my girlfriend would be down to let me squeeze some blood out of her used tampons, but then again we are a bit twisted, or maybee some of you arent twisted enough? Either way I'm always looking for unique ways to grow top quality pot.
If anyone decides to try this out, let the online pot growing community know how it goes.

Human blood does have quit abit of salt in it, I personaly would not try it or smoke anyting from it.
But again I have not tried it either so who knows, but what I do know is there is alot of salt and that is not good for your plants.

That has to be the vilest sickest suggestion I have ever heard. Im sorry but your wife creeps me out, using a cup? Oh god.Major difference of opinion here.
Anything the body expiunges be it excrement or menstraul blood is usually expelled for a reason!!! Therefore why on earth would anyone sane want to use it as fertiliser on something that goes back into the body.
Menstrual blood? Ive heard it all now.

ive heard of it being used before as a substitute for birth control pills, since the mentral blood has alot of estrogen in it... i believe someone here has a grow journal and i qoute "everything i grow has a part of me in it"

It's interesting that we don't consider it gross if it's a store bought product that contains materials from a bat, chicken, cow, etc.
Maybe we need to package it so it's less offensive....lol

Plants already have an estrogen-like hormone in them, it is a hormone that encourages growth and the reproductive cycle. By increases the hormone levels it can increase growth... Do a search on the forums, people use birth control pills in their hydroponics for the same reason.
I am not sure what kind of scientific evidence there is out there, but plenty of people says they noticed a difference. My suggestion would be to try it yourself and find out...

Plants already have an estrogen-like hormone in them,
I'm gonna assume yer referring to phytoestrogens, which are substances that have estrogenic effects in mammals- not in plants. The meaning of estrogenic, in this context, is that these substances have effects similar to that of the estrogens in the regulation of cholesteral level and post-menopausal bone density. There is no phytoestrogenic effect upon mammal reproduction.
These are almost universally flavinoids, not steroid hormones like, say, any of the estrogens. They are not interchangeable. What you are saying is that because a steak knife can be used as a phillips screwdriver, a phillips screwdriver can be used as a steak knife.
it is a hormone that encourages growth and the reproductive cycle.
No, flavinoids are primarily found as pigments and as components of a plant's immune system. They are not hormones. They have no signifigant effect on growth rate or pheno. Flavinoid levels are regulated by plant metabolism, not vice versa.
By increases the hormone levels it can increase growth...
Once again, not hormones. No increase in growth rate. See above.
Do a search on the forums, people use birth control pills in their hydroponics for the same reason.
Not if they know what they're doing. I thought that this myth dissappeared back around 1974
I am not sure what kind of scientific evidence there is out there, but plenty of people says they noticed a difference.
There's none. Lots of scientific evidence to the contrary, though.
Plenty of people voted for W. Did'nt make it a good idea. They did it for the same reason,too...
My suggestion would be to try it yourself and find out...

Well if i made anything sound like a fact, sorry to mislead anyone. However, i have read tons of sites and forums post (including ones on this forum) about how birth control pills increase growth and no one has said that it doesnt work (well, very few in number). Since both birth control pills and menstrual blood contain the same two hormones, i made the assumption that they are interchangeable. I also found several references supporting that they are... (the most notable being a test using a tomato plant and birth control pills, the results were more growth)
You appear to be well informed on this topic, but i can honestly say majority of the post, sites, and articles i have read support that this does in fact work.
and since i havent tried it myself, I was just posting the general consensus.
maybe there is alot of mis-information out there, and out of my own ignorance i am now spreading it further :( but until i can test it myself i cant be sure...

guess it would make sense that this is just a myth, and people choose to believe it without evidence to support it... wouldnt be the first time. thanks for bringing this to my attention... i have been enlightened :) perhaps this should be added to a sticky to prevent new growers from falling into the same mythological hole.

Trust me, folks- if estrogens increased growth rate, every corn, potato, soy, etc. field in the world would be treated. You'd see big ol' tankers of estrogens cruising through Kansas. Agway would carry it. Farm workers would not have facial hair.
Cannabis is just a plant in every aspect but the legal. There's no black magic involved.

You wouldn't get me to doing it for all the tea in China. Whatever happened to civilization?
The only thing I've EVER heard about birth control pills is the myth that soaking seeds in them will make them female. I've never heard, read OR seen anyone use it, mention it, or even think about using menstral blood (or estrogen itself) to grow pot. And I think I can safely say I've done my share of study. ;)
PS....which doesn't mean it isn't done......just that I've never heard of it. :D

Just because something is posted on this forum does not make it true and worthy of being echoed, even if it DOES appear to be a consensus for a little while.
Read through the 'misinformation' and 'blind leading the blind' threads in the lounge if you have a minute.
Especially in summertime...
Anyway to add something to this... assuming that the plants CAN in fact even uptake estrogen, I'm not going anywhere NEAR a bud that could potentially contain human hormones. No f-in way. And they think RBGH is scary...

If you had an outdoor growing setup, it would certainly help provide the plants with needed nutrients and would also help to prevent unwanted visitors if you mulched the area with 3 - 4 inches of used tampons and maxi pads.
Helps to keep pot thieves away, but might bring bears.
