Alright, so I've been saying I was going to learn how to grow for like 3 years now, and finally I have a little sprout....Yesssss. I'm not really expecting too much from it, but I have gathered a huge amount of info from this site, and I think I know enough to at least try it out. So I germinated some bagseeds (4 of 'em) and only one even popped, no surprise there. But any way, I planted it 3 days ago, and I got a nice little sprout. I'm just growing this one plant at the moment as a trial and error project, so I'm not too worried about it. I'm growing in a little cabinet (about 3'w/2'd/4'h) and I'm using a fluorescent tube my father in law gave me, he used the same lights to grow for quite some time, so I'm trying that out untill I can afford all the stuff I need for a serious grow room. Luckily I have my father in law to guide me through this, but I also have one question. I've got my light on 24/7 right now, my father in law says to leave it like that until I'm ready to flower the plant, but I know I need to give it some dark cycle for the roots to develop properly. My question is...when should I change the light cycle? I know I need it to be like 16/8 - 20/4, just not sure when to change it. Thanks for the help, and wish me luck.

Good luck to you as well. I wish I had more than one seed too, but that's life when you count on bagseeds to grow. Once I've grown this one then I'll spend some money for some good haze or widow seeds. I'm pretty excited about it though, let's just hope I don't kill it.

Wow....I guess I'm worse at this shit than I thought. I killed my one little pathetic sprout (I think from overwatering). But...I'm not gonna let it discourage me, cause my bro-in-law hooked up some pineapple cough seeds he had left from his last grow. He gave me 5 seeds (out of 10...9 of his germed last time) and so here I go again. So I'm growing in the same box I built, and with the same lights (here are the specs on the lights if anyone can tell me if they're kosher for what I'm trying to do here....still planning on starting with only one or two plants). Anyway these are the specs on the lights:
Coralife 50/50 50% Natural Daylight 6,000 K Fluorescent Bulb
18" Length - T8 - 15 Watts
50% natural daylight 6,000 K, 50% actinic 03 blue fluorescent bulb provides full-spectrum, high-intensity output, making it ideal for saltwater, reef and freshwater aquariums. Enhances color and clarity.
Rugged construction for dependable long life.
Rapid start lamp fits all compatible standard and electronic ballasts.
360-degree output.
Also, I decided to use some MG Organic Choice soil this time. Last time I bought the cheapest soil I could find, not realizing that ph is as important as it is. I'm using distilled water because I haven't tested my tap water and I heard that distilled is a good choice if you don't know the ph of the water you use.
Ok, last thing, since I think some overzealous watering was the demise of my first sprout, can anyone tell me approx. how much water and how often do I water?? Thanx in advance for the help.

Ok...this is my first photographic update since I started this grow. Right now she's at 15 days from germination, and is about 2 1/2 inches tall right now. I had her a little too close to the light and as you can see, the tips of the larger leaves turned a little yellow, but I moved the light to where it's about 6 inches away, and no problems since. I think everythings going good, but I still need to know when I should change my light cycle to 18/6?? Thanks for the help.

ughh... now? It doesn't really matter but it will be less stress for the plant if you lower it to 18/6 atleast a couple of weeks before flowering so that when you do go 12/12 they don't think "what the f*ck just happened" lol :)

Thanks....I kinda figured it was about that time, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy first...I don't wanna kill the little girl...So I figured better safe than sorry.
