Question about test

so i have a drug test for a job that just kinda popped up out of nowhere and im not a daily smoker but i did smoke a couple of times last week not a large amount and the test is next week.. Im gonna try the dilution method along with taking the 7 day cleaner from gnc.. my big question is though if i fail the test will it go on my record somehow and screw me over for jobs in the future or will i just not get the job and itll be dropped there? The job would be doing summer maintnance at an appartment complex? anyone know?

I believe its illegal for them to tell prospective employers the result of a previous test from a different company.
