A British man who went on a wild spending spree after doctors said he only had a short time to live wants compensation because the diagnosis was wrong and he is now healthy -- but broke.
He quit his job, sold or gave away nearly all his possessions, stopped paying his mortgage and spent his savings dining out and going on holiday.

Fucking hospitals. I hope he wins. The are responsible for him spending his money and constantly going on vacation.
Plus I hate hospitals.
If they are going to charge 1500 dollars or more for their fucking service, they better get the damn illness right.

He is intiltled to damages (compensation) for mis diagnosis.
i think he should totally win and rape the hospital in court...
it was his choice to just spend it all, but he was also told that he was going to die very soon, so like any other rational human being, if ur told u wont live for longer than a year, im sure ud go on a spending spree or something in that matter, bcuz other then that, theres the choice of sitting at home until u meet Grim all depressed and sad, and i know that some people would take the sad route, but all in all, he didnt do a DAM THING WRONG, bcuz THEY informed him that his diagnosis was CONFIRMED that he was going to die within the year, so he just tried to enjoy what he could before he was suppose to go and he pretty much lived life to the fullest of his capabilities before he was to die, and that was by spending his savings and not getting involved in stress-related situations (Working), and he just tried to do all he could, and after hes done with everything and expecting to die any moment, they tell him its a false alarm, FUCK THAT
i hope he sues and comes up like no other lawsuit yet

Doesn't anybody watch Scrubs? You should all be on the hospital's side.

The dude should write a book about what happened.
I bet he would make millions.
At least he didnt have to pay for anything from the hospital. The NHS is free! :D [Although at the moment your more likely to die if you DO go into hospital - thanks to our amazing JOKE of a government, and moron top dog tits that buy £70,000 ROCKS of all things to make the outside look nice.]
Yeah - spent all his money, not a good idea. I mean, i would have enjoyed myself a bit more but i wouldnt have spent it all, just incase i didnt die.
ROFLMAO.........Thats some funny shit.

I have been thinking about this all day... I think I would of first got another opinion... I am too cautious to leave myself pennyless on the word of another... I don't think the guy has a leg to stand on,,,but my view is usually part of the minority...
I know I would of prob picked up smoking ciggs again cause I still love it and plan to when and if I hit 70...

I don't think the hospital is at fault. I mean, with so many patients per day, even if you get 99.9% of your diagnoses correct, one person in 1,000 is going to be misdiagnosed. Nobody's perfect at their jobs, including doctors, and it was the guy's own fault for spending all his money without getting a second opinion.

I reckon he's entitled to some cash compensation...after all i think beleiving that your going to die pretty much constitutes emotional truama if anything does.

I think it just like suing Tobacco companies for a person's bad decision to smoke...

The ex-wife went through a case of mis diagnosis.......the way the laws are in the states are is that you can't sue for that, just malpractice like cutting off the wrong limb, etc.........
Have a good one!

I don't think it is like that at all. We are all well aware of the dangers of smoking. When you buy ciggs, you are paying for nicotine and death. We all know this.
When you pay a doctor, you are paying for 4 years of medical school and hope that their would be some assurance to quality of service. Hospitals suck. Most of them don't pay enough attention to what they are doing and simply don't care about their patients. It took my g/f's grand mother 3 trips to different doctors before they finally realized she had cancer. WTF?
If you pay for a service you should get what you are paying for. It's that simple in my opinion.

We are all going to die, and we know that. Now, if we were immortal beings who were suddenly persuaded to believe we would die in a year's time, that might constitute emotional trauma. Seriously though, why would someone not get a second opinion if a doctor told them they had only a short time left before shuffling off the old mortal coil? Doctors are human beings and therefore fallible. I think this guy needs to stop the pity party and start rebuilding his life.

Rule #1: get a second opinion (and a third, especially when it's life or death).

You said it dude. I really hope this guy wins. Their is a big difference between pancreatic cancer and an inflamed pancreas. I really hope this man wins. Because i would probably do the same thing if i thought i was gonna die.

You would take the doctor at his word, not get a second opinion, and splurge all your money away based on one fallible human being's conclusion?

It his own fault - Everybody knows that when a Dr. says "I give you a year to live" it's a BALLPARK estimate to help you and your loved ones plan for your final arrangements, not a guarantee of death so you can know how long you have left to liquidate every penny. I hope he goes to court and the judge orders him to pay off all of the shit that he willingly let go delinquent. What a dumbass. He should be happy he's alive.
