Pure carbon monoxide is easily made with some simple chemistry and ingredients. Simply mix 2 part formic acid with one part sulfuric acid.
4.4.14 Production of Carbon Monoxide (http://www2.uni-siegen.de/~pci/versuche/english/v44-14.html)
Obtaining the ingredients is not hard or very expensive. Formic acid can be gotten here: Formic Acid, 96%, Reagent, ACS, Chemistry Supplies and Laboratory Chemicals (http://www.labdepotinc.com/Chemical_Details~pid~F1089.aspx) Sulfuric acid is avaliable through some auto parts stores. It's used as electrolyte in auto batteries. I have seen it at Wal-Mart in the automotive section near the motorcycle batteries. Ace Hardware carries a drain cleaner, brands vary, look for a white bottle that is wrapped in a plastic bag.
Safety: Everybody knows that it can kill you with ease. I think it's safer to make the stuff as you need it rather than having a bottle around that could possibly leak. I would recommend using about 20ml formic acid and 10ml of sulfuric acid outside in a sealed cardboard box.
The other way you can kill yourself is to expose it to high temps, sparks, or open flame. It is combustable. It will blow you an your plants up or atleast draw much unwanted attention to your grow op.
As for it working to make female plants. I don't know. I'm still trying to decide if the risks are worth it. It seems to me if you get some females going, cloning is just easier.

I must admit seeds are much cheeper than a casket.
Plus the fact it would take a few years to prove it works and stable.
Most grower want a stable strain, and willing to loose 50% on males, and clone.
Its like the femninized seeds , they are unstable from the get go.
NO LIFE IS WORTH A SAVING 100 BUCK WORTH OF SEEDS
THINK SAFETY AND LIVE
When your playing with fire, you might get burnt.
90% of the growers that get caught are by open there mouths
10 % are just stupid mistakes, is it realy worth it.
Over the years on the internet have seen some real good ones
Fire started by overloaded main, got free power till the fire departmen came
A stealth grower's getting caught by stealth, it takes a real dumb cop not to find a grow
One guy tranported a co2 cyl. and the top broke off. Car distroyed, but did not get busted
One made a home made ozone gen , and got the hell nocked out of him
No gfi on the pump and it shorted out.
To many bragged to a friend his pot was better than the outher guy.
Please do not add to the list , we all want to be happy ALIVE growers.

This thread is interesting to me as a curiosity... BUT!!!!!!!!
As a professional chemist I would like to say for the record that this is not something to fuck around with.
If you do not (and I assume you don't) have a negative pressure fume hood with a drop-down safety shield at your house, just suck it up and sex seeds like the rest of us.
INCLUDING those of us with access to that shit.

Stinky. I forget that you're a chemist. I only wrote this thread to give those who think they must try it a few pointers. I can too easily visualize someone having a long forgotten bottle of carbon monozide leaking in thier closet, attic garage, ect. Or poisoning themselves or getting blown up in a grow room. I also reccomended that they do this outside. I also doubt if many knew that it's combustable.
I really don't see the point in this technique though. Once you get a female or two that you like just clone them. Seeds come in packs of ten. Do you really have to have ten females? I like to keep a male or two around (away from the rest of the grow) for crossing purposes and to make a few seeds. I like having some seeds around incase of a disaster.

My 12 year old has wanted to be a chemist for as long as I can remember....hmmm wonder if he knows something I dont? To be honest though, last week he said it's now Chemist or cop!?! At least he's not wearing girls clothes (yet?)! LOL

I am in LOVE with CSI Las Vegas... I run the exact same Agilent GC that they show in the lab, lol... but I've got 2 felonies on my record... otherwise I'd be heading to forensic chem faster than you could blink.
Encourage him to study hard and get into forensic analytical chem. Then he can bust us when we are old hippies. hahaha
I do environmental analytical chem and there is not enough money in it. Every time we have a Republican president, all the grants that pay for that kind of work get cut. I'm ready to jump ship and accept an offer to go work for an instrument manufacturing company as a field tech...
Girls clothes? Ummm wtf?

I was just being silly...cop/chemist seemed like extreem oposites to me untill you mentioned the CSI thing. Hence, he's confused and thus the womens clothing.
Hey..I make sense to me! LOL

Damn stinky, get to work making a strain of weed that is not detectable in drug tests. Put that chem knowledge to important use.

If it weren;t detectable by a test that tests for cannabinoids, it wouldn't get you high!!!
I'm more interested in using my Super Nerd Powers to learn the art of microprop so that viable plantlets can be shipped worldwide in tiny containers almost as easily as seeds can now.

In my dreams, my 50,000 sq.ft. underground grow room has an entry passageway that can trap intruders and then be pumped full of carbon monoxide, just to make sure they don't intrude a second time. LOL
What kind of an idiot would fool around with carbon monoxide? No offense to the original poster, but it's time for a reality check.

Mine would have one of those nightclub fog machines, but with the nasty strawberry-scented fog that was last seen at my prom c. 1996 and induces almost instantaneous vomiting in warm-blooded animals.

Please forgive me for being ignorant on the subject, but how (hypothetically of course) would one use CO1 in weed farming?

there are these things on the market now called co2 tabs. you just pop them into your water when youre feeding your plants. they disolve in your solution and when you water it provides co2 directly to the roots. theyre cheap and effective. way better than letting some brew ferment and stink up your place and cheaper than getting big tanks of co2 and releasing it into the air.

mushaboom, they are talking about CO1, not CO2.

I'm with opie on this?? I thought that CO2 was the building block not CO1. I thought CO1 was just unburned fuel in the air.

Carbon monoxide (CO1) is a by-product of combustion. It is odorless and it will kill you. :(

Perhaps he could be a cop that specializes in chemistry.

Actually it is common for boys to experiment with putting on female clothing. I think for my 4 year old, it makes him feel closer to his mom when she is at work. We tell him to stop, but he just keeps getting into her clothes. He is not a homosexual or a cross-dresser.

Correct. But again, how would one use it in weed farming? I mean, why are we talking about trying to make it? What good is it? As best as I can tell from reading this, it has something to do with feminized seeds, but I don't understand.

I realize that well and good, I don't mess with carbon anything(mon/di-oxide). But my question really asked, CO1 & CO2 are both by products of combustion. My school of thought is that CO2 is a purer form of CO1. In other words CO2 is CO1 burned more completely.
