marijuanna and anethesia

I am having surgery tommorow morning and am wondering if I should stop smoking btween now and then. are there any known effects on pot and the anethesia?

yeah they told me not to smoke 30 days before my surgeries....have fun risking fate :thumbsup:

From what I've heard from our anesthesiologist friends, the risk of drug interactions is minimal, but you never really know, which is why they don't want you smoking weed beforehand.

What they worry about even more is whether or not your lungs are clear so you'll absorb anesthesia most efficiently and then clear it afterwards, too. Cannabis smoke contains a lot of crap that's not great for the lungs. THC and cannabadiol are beneficial, but the rest of the smoke is dirty--dirtier than cigarette smoke, in fact. So it's good to take a smoking break to give your lungs a chance to be clear and clean for the anesthesia. Do yourself a favor and be up front and honest with your anesthesiologist about what you've been smoking and how frequently so they'll have all the information they need about you. Good luck!
