Hey, gang! Today was my last day of school for the term. I successfully made it through the first full year of medical school. I can't believe it's over! So much has happened since last August. After we turned in our software and lab equip, we met with our advisors and then there was a big party/reception this evening. I'm officially free for the summer, which includes the not-fun task of dealing with some medical issues now.
If you're in school, hope your term is nearly over, too. I look forward to having time to rest and not study six hours a day or more!

I'm not even in school! It's been nice for a while but I decided I'm gonna start going to school this fall. I'm gonna do something with music because that's what I'm best at, but my local college offers glassblowing so I'm definitely taking that shit, and in the next town over from mine is a school just for glassblowing so I'm thinking about opening up my own headshop if that stuff all works out,

i'm starting my 10th week of my 12 week semester this monday birdgirl you're going for md or do how was your grades un til med shool?

I made good grades. Here in the U.S. you pretty much need a 3.70 average or better (grades where I live are usually on a four-point scale, with 4 being an A) to get into med school, and the best grades need to be in science and the pre-med courses. In college I had a 3.87. In graduate school and for my other post-graduate degree, I had a 4.0, but they really look harder at the undergrad grades, at least according to what I was told. Then, of course, you have to make a decent score on the MCAT tests. All in all, it's possibly more trouble than it's worth.

I'm not done until Aug. 3rd for my schooling. That's only the first year, I have 2 more after this if I wish to proceed to managment and supervisor levels, but I want to just chill at first year apprentice. That's on my radar right now.
But congrats on being done with school!

I've been out for a week or so, and don't have to go back till the end of September. Needless to say I'm looking forward to my break after dragging ass through summer classes last year.
Now I just need to find a job lol...

I am SO glad. These last two weeks have been insane. So much reviewing and studying. I'm very tired. I've had two naps today and am probably going to take one more before bedtime. And somehow all of the information from this year's courses has to stay in my head well enough to pass the state boards at the end of next year's classwork. I wish I had some way to anchor it there. It's going to evaporate over the summertime.
I still can't figure out why the semester finished this early, but of course we've been at it since mid-August of last summer, which was an earlier start than most eastern and mid-western schools. I'm glad it's over. Don't think I could have taken it much longer . . . .

I still think you need to find a way to go back. You need to go to culinary school and train to be a chef. When I suggested cooking a few weeks back, you took that to mean fast-food cooking. I mean REAL cooking. You'd be awesome at that, and I suspect you'd love it.

ahh i would... but ther's not awhole lot of place i could chef around here.. we live in a small town, most food options are fast food lol.... anywhere worthwhile is over an hour drive away or so... and i got alot of shit inbetween me and getting a liscense.... (i'm sure some who follow my stories seem like i'm making excuses, but i really am screwed like 20 ways to sunday and it pisses me off =/ if i solve one problem, i got 10 others standing in my way..)

Well, keep it in mind for the future. There's nearly always a way around obstacles. Sometimes it takes time, but I have faith in you.
I think a really good field to go into, and I know there must be lots of people who employ them in greater Houston because there are people up here who use them, would be work as a private chef--a skilled cook who takes culinary training and then goes to work for wealthy people. Rock stars employ them on tour, too. To me, that'd be fun.

Yeah, the rock-star-employed chefs I've heard about and seen featured are part of the bus tour. They almost have their own bus to haul around the kitchen and stuff. They shop locally and then fix what they can. It'd be too expensive to haul all that equipment along on planes, I guess.
Someday I think you're going to find your life's "wings" and fly happily and securely. I mean that metaphorically instead of literally. I know it can be done. You just didn't get a solid enough foundation to realize it yourself. Not yet, at least! Whether or not you'll ever feel secure on a real plane is another thing. I have two friends who literally cannot fly, at least not without practically being anesthetized. That's a common fear, and I know modern behavioral/psychological theory believes in forcing people to conquer those fears by facing them, but that's very hard in reality. My heart goes out to you!

My school will be out June 14th, and the bad part about it is it's a full day. Wouldn't be so bad if they didn't tell us before this month that it would be a half day. :wtf:

not to go off topic but my fear of planes isn't hte general fear most have...
along time ago (and i ahve been known plenty of times for my psychic capabilities (no i can't control them, they just come) i had a dream about a plane (these dreams are very distinguishable... very vivid, almost like i'm tehre in person...)
anyways, along time ago i had one of these dreams about a plane crash, the way debris was scattered, the number of the plane, and the surrounding area was very clear... i woke up the next day, and right tehre on every news channel was this crash i had dreamed about hours before it actually happened.... in every single detail i had dreamt about.... i can't describe the level of clairty i saw the dream in, and could never imagine how accurate it would of been...
anyways, not too long after that i also had a dream of myself on a plane.. with the same type of clarity... it's been along time ago now, but if there's even achance in hell what i went through woudl happen if i stepped on a plane, there is no way i'm getting on one... these dreams are always of future events, and i don't believe the future can be changed, but i plan on changing it.. by never stepping foot on a plane...

Next week is my last week of compulsory education, then I go on study leave and have exams until June 15th. I can't wait 'til then because when it's all over I'll have an extra long summer and I'll be going into Sixth Form in September, to study things I actually like.
