toronto is harsh with pot....you need to do more research...

i am an american that moved to canada and i can tell you, they are cracking down here on the lax stance on drugs, and the only place that is light on sentences is british columbia....and even this is changing..and immigration is a nightmare..it is next to impossible for an american to get a visa here to live, never mind trying to work....rethink, for sure...

I too am an American that moved to Canada.

Well, as much as they're cracking down, it isn't NEARLY what would be needed to make a dent in the Toronto marijuana economy! I live in Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto, and being a frequent visiter downtown, there's more involvement in smoking pot it seems than cigarettes. No one I know close has had a worse punishment for possession than a 60 dollar ticket and a "have a good day" by the cops. The immigration was a nightmare I do remember, we had trouble flying back and forth from America to Canada because our permanent resident card was such a hassle to get. Everytime I flew (2 times a month), I had to wait an extra 2 hours after going through customs to get "cleared".

EDIT: I would also like to mention the 14000 people that are meeting up in Toronto's streets this year for the Marijuana March on May 5th.

EDIT AGAIN: And sorry, I forgot to post on the medical cards you asked about - they're impossible to get without being legit... practically...

Well i live in toronto and i wouldn't say pot laws are harsh at all. Yea with the new conservative government shit has got a little worse but still nothing compared to the states. I mean macr emery is getting fucked by the Canadian the government but i've never had problems. I've been smoking consitanly for along time all through highschool and a lot of those times were outside just walking right now the street with out a care in the world that a cop might stop me. I've never been charged or even warned by cops about weed (knock on wood),

B.C. has the largest pot culture in Canada, and will undoubtedly be the first to legalize it (our provincial NDP now says they'll legalize it, there's a vote in 2009. NDP are bound to get back in at some point, it goes back and forth).

I've only got a few warnings and a few things confiscated. Never charged me or even told my parents.

I live in Caledon , which is a suburb/village of Toronto at the very North West End of the GTA, here in my small town , the only crime is smoking pot, so people really get cracked down by the cops here for doing it. Caledon is bigger then the city of Toronto in size, so only the built up areas are harsh on pot, but you go to a small town in Caledon like palgrave you can grow as much and smoke as much pot as you like. Currently my highschool is the worst in the Region for drug abuse(a region of 1 million people; peel region) which includes mississauga and brampton. Whenever I venture to the city or any more built up area, cops dont give a flyin fuck if your tokin, as long as its not too in public, and causing a rukus. Cops in Canada(well Ontario at least) around Toronto are too buissey with other stuff to charge you for possession of pot. I talked to one once at school and they said its too much paper work to bust someone just for silly old chronic. Not too say there aren't a couple of bad apples in the bunch that may catch you by surprise one day jump from a tree and catch you red handed with a scale and an oz.

DAMN YOU OFFICER ZEEBOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
