They scare the living shit out of me for a couple reasons...
Do they believe truly that taking the money of gullible, desperate, people is the Lord's work? IF yes, they are as much fools themselves and should not have that kind of weird power... if no, they are assholes out to make a buck.
Religious institutions, like nonprofit organizations, should not have that high an overhead. People donate in good faith... but where does the money actually go?

the same way i feel about organized crime. it preys on the week, it generates huge profits for its leaders. and it is damn near impossible to eradicate.

After watching for a few minutes, he commented "He's a slimy!" and went back to watch "Sesame Street". I agreed with his view!- Granny:hippy:

They are merely pimps. They have a way with words and are able to use something a lot of people think they need, religion, to make money. Thats their gig and they do it well.

i use to be an ordained christian minister, the kind you have to go to school for and not just an internet mailing thing. through various situations i have personally met some of those "slick-haired" guys that you see on TBN and what not and have seen them off air.
here is the deal... some of them are just plain full of shit and in it for personal gain, recognition, etc. I think we all can see that.
the flipside is that some of them (even some of the real eccentric ones) actually believe 150% that they are "advancing god's kingdom" and doing good for others.. yes, even some of the ones who regularly ask for money. as messed as it seems from our world view and perspective, they believe they are doing good, and sometimes they do. i have seen it.
now i cant stand to watch those shows because they clash with my belief/view of god.. sometimes i get stoned late at night and call in to pretend i am getting "saved"... call it black humor cause i use to be in the business. i guess i am writing all this to simply say that some of those guys are VERY sincere, despite that they may be missing the point completely.
we can only do our best... and when we judge the motives of others, we are not better than them when they judge the position of our "eternal souls"... amazing how you actually become/do what you despise... human nature.

Those preachers on tv are a comedy show. I was listening one time and the preacher says to his audience. If you expect God to do things for you, and you come here and don't reach into your pockets and give to us, God won't give to you. I sometimes turn them on for a good laugh.
I disagree with those that make a living off preaching. We are instructed to work with our own hands. We are to buy the truth (without money) and sell it not. If you're making a salary off preaching the gospel, it's wrong. Did Jesus collect money for his teachings?

He was a good man. When we kids "weeded" his garden, pulling up his just planted seedlings- he smiled and showed us the difference between his flowers and weeds. I only saw him angry once, when he caught my Mom in a lie. (he told her "If the truth won't do, then something is wrong!" I respect those words and remembered them from when he said them- when I was just 5 years old) I strongly suspect that his family we "augmented" by local illegitimate children (in fact, none of his 6 children look like they are related!) He was a gentle man of God. The fools that I see on TV are nothing like him. That is our loss!- Granny:hippy:

Power-hungry money-grubbing lying scumbag fraudsters. I can kind of understand regular preachers; I mean, if you really think your religion is true, it only makes sense to try to teach the rest of the community about it at your local house of worship. But the Pat Robertsons and Billy Grahams have to know they're just manipulating people for their personal benefit.
Not to mention they say some of the most nauseating hate-filled crap I've ever heard.
??I think 'one man, one vote,' just unrestricted democracy, would not be wise. There needs to be some kind of protection for the minority which the white people represent now, a minority, and they need and have a right to demand a protection of their rights.? ??Pat Robertson on apartheid
??And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way??all of them who have tried to secularize America??I point the finger in their face and say ??you helped this happen.??? ??Jerry Falwell on the 9/11 attacks
If any of you Christians enjoy these televangelists, just remember that Jesus thinks they're hypocrites because they make a big spectacle out of their relationship with God.
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

i speak of houston tv speakers..
and i agree, money money money... i've heard them contradict themselves over the years (i can't name specifics, we are tlaking years here) i think they just say what it takes to get viewers and peopel to come to their church (which brings donations and such)...
half the time, some of the things they say don't have anything to do with religion, religious messages or life lessons..... (agian houston area tv avangelists [is that the correct term?] as i've never seen any others)
i just get this feeling they're so full of it and fake... and i've had plenty of christian goign people tell me the same things... (which actually made me start paying attention to what they say, i don't watch them all the time, but i do hear the shit from time to time.... my grandparents watch it all the time)

these tv preacher fellas make me sick. they really do. there are tons of lonely, hurting people out in tvland and charismatic preachers offer hope for a donation. there is no difference between this and catholic church's sale of indulgences hundreds of years ago. its really sad
