OK so i just changed my nutes today and the water temp was 82...i know ideal temp should be lower but since i started i have hovered around 75-80...oxegen dissolves better in colder water but can i combat this with better air stones?....i also would like to avoid root rot..SO howdo you guys keep your res. coooool?

Tonsa air ,
And 2 litre pop bottles full of water and frozen in res. they only last about 6 hrs ea. though , or a 300.00 - 500.00 res. chiller . You gotta do something fast though 82 = root rot at warp speed . Latewood and others claim 60 deg. is optimum h2o temp.
Peace man

65 to 70. If you can't bring the room temp down with AC then the frozen soda bottle sounds like your best bet.

Coolworks chiller works well and is more affordable, but only for a small rez and it should be insulated. Bulkhead install is required. I started with one of those but have since graduated to a pacific coast 1/4 HP chiller. Cold temps are a must if you wanna grow hydro with good results. Peace

Water Water every where, at 32 d.f. If you want to get more cold for the buck. Add sugar to the water in the 2 liter bottle. Thats what in cooler ,coolers. NOTE leave room for expansion.
Always use a air stone in you resivore, plus a mixing pump, any real small pump to mix the fluid for 15 minutes prior to filling you buckets.
I use a automated system using a 74 printer port relay and relayrunner program for my grows

ok but lets say this frozen bottle floats over and touches my roots, wouldnt the extreme cold be bad for the roots...
oldsanclem...no idea what half of that was as this is my first EVER grow...but it souds intelligent so kudos...actually i understood most exept the last line...
it just seems impossible to keep your res temp down without a chiller...yeah the water bottle is great but impossible to change all the time...usually the tempisnt that high i just accidently shut off the air that day,nt thinking..usually im around 75
just put in water bottle that i filled yesterday and thermometer although felt with hand and bottle seem to be the charm for right now ....only a 2 site 10 gallon res. so doesnt take much to cool it since the water level is down to about 5-6 gallons now.

I believe he meant to say add salt to the water bottle as this lowers the freezing temp...good idea if you want to do bottles but bottles suck. Too much work, there is a couple good ways to insulate your reservoir but thats a great help.
Do a search on ice probes....its an aquarium chiller, thats what I used when I did DWC. It will set you back about 120 to the door and will drop temps in an 18 gallon 10 degrees below ambient temperatures.
Hope this solves your delima.

how is your water getting that hot? what's the room temp? it must be frying

latewood claims 68 is optimum.
sometimes we cannot be optimum, but must try. Why are your rez temps so high?
