My crazy idea

Space... the final frontier. These are the ramblings of a stoned man and his daydreams. His mission, for human beings to escape the surly bonds of Earth and touch the face of Gliese 581, and to establish a colony there within the next 500 years.

The plan:

Genetically engineer human embryos to provide them with attributes for the optimum chance of survival, and freeze them for the 20 light year journey.

Androids with highly advanced AI will pilot and maintain the ship along the way. They will not require food, water, oxygen, sleep, or entertainment.

Upon arrival at Gliese 581, these androids will then establish a home base suitable for supporting human life. They will be programmed to build shelters, locate and gather resources.

Once home base is established, the frozen human embryos will be transfered to artificial incubation chambers where they will be brought to full term and born. The androids will then act as parents - raising, educating, and otherwise assisting these young pioneers in their mission to populate a brave new world.

I'm sure every SETI radio is pointed at Gliese 581 as we speak. If we don't detect anything in the next 500 years, it's safe to assume our weapons are better than theirs.
