View Full Version : What's your big career goal?

I think it would be interesting to hear the dreams of our members here, career wise that is. Not something far out that you don't ever plan on achieving, but your big final career achievement you want to reach.
I personally want to be a Senior System's Analyst. Basically it's a lot more focused on hardware than software, though both are involved. I'd be able to take a computer apart and put it back together again, do anything through DOS or a BIOS, and set up system networks for business's/websites/schools you name it. I'd basically be the guy they call for any sort of computer troubles. I love computers as is, they just make more sense to me than anything else. Right now I don't know a whole lot, but enough to know I have a knack for it. I can remove any kind of Malware, edit a registry, fix internet connection problems, clean system clutter, and repair basic disk problems.
And yes, I did state here a few months ago that I was going into medicine, but as I discovered in biology class I can't physically do work on my feet or learning over labs with my spine all messed up as it is. Doesn't matter though, computers are my true love; and that being said....
What's yours?

That's pretty cool. I loved taking history in college last year and excelled at it. It's so interesting and really gives you a clearer perspective on the world and the mistakes/sucesses that are repeated. What type of history do you want to teach? I took Canadian and World history, and would recommend both. Though personally I think ancient history would be great.
I wanna own my own ice rink!
And hold big cannabis fests there too! Be sure to give us a call when it's ready :)

You're damn right it is! I'm glad you have that attitude, not many people do these days. Just keep pushing toward your goal, and as long as you don't stop pushing you can't fail (a little "lysergic" revelation I had last January:D )

Realistic- keep being a geek... maybe retire from the state and then go work as a lab rat at a microbrewery.
Dream- own and cook at a B&B in a friendly state.. I would think either VT or AK...

well right now I am majoring in Spanish with a minor in Outdoor Education/ Environmental issues. So basically that plants my career as a Spanish speaking Park Ranger....wooot.....
My passion is politics, the enivronment, Spanish and activism so somehow i hope to meld all of these together into one fabulous career.
So far however, I've only been able to use my Spanish abilities to translate for Spanish-speaking patients at a free dental and medical clinic downtown. While I was doing that, I realized that it was exactly what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.
BUT! I've been working in dog kennels over the summer for about 4 years now. I also love that. But its just summer work and there's little room for advancement when you're washing dogs and hosing down kennels.
So I see myself doing something Spanish related. I hope it's in the environmental and activism field.
When I was growing up I wanted to be a naturalist, which is a fancy word for a park ranger. I also wanted to be a dog trainer...
but alas, here I am. I am ambiguous and open to whatever comes my way.

Hey BizzleLuvin, maybe you could do something in international politics working with Mexico or spain. Idealy you could be an ambassador, but I imagine not many people get assigned to each country (maybe only one). But you could still work for government in negotiating trade deals, aliances, all that good stuff.

Man, that's awsome. I originally wanted to go into medicine because I somehow want to leave a possitive impact on this world (maybe I'll find a way to do that through computers yet). Your plan will definately do that. Learn a little about counseling and the such too, it could be some really rewarding stuff.

Tech writer, hopefully for a gaming compay writing the instruction manuals for some of the games.
More than likely I will end up writing crappy warning lables or some other boring shit. I certainly will not be writing the info for medicine booklets. That would be the worst.
The pay is good. I can expect to make 60,000 right out of college and there are plenty of open jobs for the field. A lot of companies have to outsource to graduate students at local universities.

I want to work in medicine/be a physician, which is why I'm in medical school. It can even be done with a messed up spine, Mr. D. I'm proof of that, as is one of my heart doctors. He works only out of his office so he doesn't have to do hospital work or lean over tables.
I'm having some spinal surgery this summer for my (fun) vacation. Found that out today.

My dream job would be to become a therapist, but I know that I couldn't handle going to college so that won't happen. Once I graduate from highschool I am going to work as a nanny which should be wonderful. But what I really want to do is be a mother, and a really good loving one. I can't wait to have a husband and a child of my own to raise.

I love computers as is, they just make more sense to me than anything else. Right now I don't know a whole lot, but enough to know I have a knack for it.What's yours?
That's THE key ingredient to be sucessful!! I started out as a jr programmer back in the early 90's, then moved to programmer/analyst then senior programmer/analyst and with that as my "base" i moved to a senior business analyst. I'm actually in the process now of interviewing for a position as a Marketing Analyst which is a culmination of all of my experience lumped together (Plus I've been working in the Marketing/Ad Agency industry for 14 of my 18 years). I LOVE the work and because of that i've become very good at it - I sent out 3 resumes, got 3 job interviews and will get 3 job offers and will get to pick which one I want!!! And the pay sure as hell can't be beat!!
Go to Monster.com or careerbuilder.com and just do a search for the above jobs, as well as yours, and you'll see the potential. Also check out the "requirements/skills" section of the jobs to see what all of the companies are looking for to get an idea.
The only down side is that 99% of the companies will require a drug test. I'm cramming for mine now - and its pissing me off. It'll be a week this Sunday since I've shmoked :(

I have a few goals in mind.
My mian goal is to someday work in the music business. I already jam with a few people, so I'm doing my best on that. I have learned that things like this won't fall into my lap, so I have to do it myself.
But as for right now, I'm in school right now working in the Warehousing and Product Support trade. They teach you every, little detail about warehousing, distribution, inventory, etc...I want to start in the safety feild and eventually become a safety coordinator, or be on a safety team, improving the safety in the labour feild. Hundreds of workers are injured or killed every year for not using proper shit, so I want to help slow it down or stop those accidents from happening. Yes, I will be the guy in 5 years giving you shit for not wearing your hard hat and safety glasses. ;)
So yeah, that's what I want to do. :)

That sounds like me and my friend too. We plan on opening a complete vehicle customization shop in the future. I would do most of the body/mechanical work (along with some other mechs of course), and operate the business, and he would do most of the electrical/diagnostic work.
The shop would handle everything from Nitrous to Interior.
I was planning on going to a tech school like UTI or something like that, while also getting a degree in business admin., maybe online or something, but that might be out of the question now...:(
