Making own pest control spray

So my cousin looked at my plants and said i have some thripes. He said what i need to do is to let the soil dry out real well, and then spray a solution of water and liquid soap on it. Also said i might have to repeat the process a few times.

So i was just wondering, what ratio to mix the liquid soap with the water. And so i spray that on over the plant, and a little on top of the soil. Will the plants have residue on them, do i need to wash them off? Just a few questions hope someone can help. Thanks again.:jointsmile:

Thrips aren't all that common and am wondering how you came up with that diagnosis. The fix can be harder on the plants than the problem unless the problem is correctly identified first.

My cousin has been growing weed, among other things, for a long time, and he knows his stuff so i trust him. I was just wondering how to mix the soap spray.

For thripes spray with your mixture, I use pyrithium and spray the underside of the leafs then hose off with water the next day. The eggs are in the soil so I use nematoads within a couple days, use a 1/4 of the spunge mixed with your water, then repeat with another 1/4 in about a week to ten days later. I have had them twice now and this has got rid of them completley both times. Found out the thripes were in the potting soil I was useing. So I buy my soil now in the bag sterelized from a local grow shop. Hope this helps

take a paper plate and cut a slice in it to the middle. make a small circle for the main stem. Place the plate around your plant, this will cover the dirt and prevent the ones on the leaf to fall into the dirt and the new ones from coming up to your plant. Now you can spray your thripe mix on the leaf without having more come up.

I believe you can use a neemin's oil at this point, but not 100% positive.

There is a product called SoftSoap that is, soap; just like your cuz recommended, but it's made for plants and comes with directions and might be a little more foolproof for your first use.

...and I've heard a lot of good reports about the paper plate method too.

Neem oil took them out for me,this was my first year using it and this year has been exceptionally bad w/grasshoppers,thrips,whiteflies.Soap and water w/a touch of oil,tobbacco juice and garlic juice are a few ways to keep the thrips at bay.Just 2x's a week and I leave them be the last couple weeks best I can,use my hands and eyes,pickin out the bugs,lol.:thumbsup::hippy:
