I want to learn how to play the drums. Since I started smoking I've been having the urge to bang on anything along with my music. It makes me feel part of the music. Does anyone play drums? How much would a good drum set cost? And if you play any other instrument, what is it?

i have some drumsticks and i always play along with music, but my passion is guitar i have 3 gettin a 4th and drums are expensive. for a good beginners set it would cost upwards of 500 dollars, PLUS cymbols, which are expensive, you can get a nice zildjian hi-hat cymbols for 75 and a crash for prolly 50 and a ride for prolly 50 but youd prolly get sibian for those

i know alot about insturments so any questions ask away

i play bass
i have a shecter tribal... very nice intermediate bass guitar. My dad has a whole collection of guitars and basses. He bought me a bass for christmas one year, and my bass has always been a part of my life. He was a bass player for the electric chairs ( did 2 concerts with the clash ) , so i get free bass lessons and advice from him :) yay!

Hope this helps.

For me, the method was to get a guitar (the best you can afford, which in my case was a '59 Fender Duo sonic), and then get to know some working musicians. Practice and jam your ass off, find out how much you really like it. If you're any good, you'll get a chance to sit in on gigs from time time, and find your "zone". One thing seems to follow another; the more you play, the better you get. The better you get, the more opportunities you get to play. Go see the most acts you can, to find out what other people sound like. And Listen , both to advice and to styles.

For a beginning drummer, with the costs, I'd advise you get to know some drummers, get them to show you some chops, and try out their kits. Then decide what sort of drum kit you want to put together, and also have some exposure to different styles of playing. (I never understood why they call it playing, it's serious stuff, if you get into it.)

Above all, get out there and play. you'll find out that on a gig, some things that worked well in your basement practice sessions fall to pieces when you're in front of an audience, especially if they're heaving beer bottles at you. And you'll also find out what works.

Check out Musicians' Friend for gear.

Just my 2 cents,

I have a mixture of keyboards and samplers. Samplers are the sheeitt have got shit loads of pumping drum beats programmed in to them.

My keyboards are the Yamaha Cs1x Dance synth the yamaha cs2x and the best of the bunch the Yamaha AN1X wich has really phat sounds.

Hi Pass the,

I've been using a Korg X5DR synth module hooked up to a computer sequencer, for backing tracks on recordings. What do you recommend as a trade up? (something a simple minded old geek could handle).

Something moron-friendly, with rigteous sounds. Hard to describe my music; Link Wray meets Michael Hedges, with the ghost of Hendrix taking posession from time to time. I like to write in tracks for strings, but bass & percussion are important elements too. I've had a hard time with the Korg, have settled for the canned patches mostly, adjusting attack, decay, release, and other simple parameters only. Use outboard effects; Digitech, ART, even an old Zoom 9002 sometimes. I'm looking for a unit that's not going to keep me up nights with the manual trying to figure out how to modify waveforms or layer patches. The Korg manual was written for techies, it would seem.

whoever said don't go to ebay, because it's a scam is right and wrong.

My dad has bought alot of basses and guitars off of ebay ( alembics, fenders ) and they have all came and been great. If you really want to buy off ebay, i suggest finding a seller with good feedback, and alot of transactions... Make sure you know info on the seller before you buy.

i play the drums, but at the moment im learnin to play the bass.. to whoever said they wanna leanr drums but cant because theyre too expensive - theyre not expensive.. like anything, you pay for what you get. you can get a decent starter kit for a couple of hundred bucks, or you can buy the best kit in the world for thousands.. but whatever you pay, its worth it
