View Full Version : Just wondering....

Ok this probably an off-the-wall question for all you more experienced growers out there... But I was just wondering if there is any significance in the # of fingers on leaves... I noticed when a plant starts out, it begins with one true leaf(one finger) then three then five. And then possibly seven, nine and even eleven depending on the strain. just curious cause I topped a plant between a seven finger set of leaves and a nine finger set. Now I noticed that all the new growth and leaves are only seven fingers. I did clone the 9 fingered tops but they have not rooted and started to grow yet but im just curious if they will continue to produce nine fingers and maybe eleven. Do the # of fingers determine strain. Just curious....

I am currently growing a couple strains that only show 3 fingers all over the whole plant.
The maximum # of fingers a plant can ever grow is dependent on strain.
A happy plant under no stress will grow its maximum # of leaves.
When you stress a plant very badly, it can even go down to making 'stress leaves' with only 1 finger.
Um hope that kinda helps!

Thanks Stinky! That does help some. I thought it had something to do withstrain just wasn't sure. That just leads me to another question then. How do I go about finding out what strain and/or type of plant that I have. I currently have 2 bag seed girls that I'd like to identify as closely as possible. Only thing that I do know about them is that they are both dominantly an indica and that the nuggets that they came from came from no-cal and were outdoor. My brother brought it back with him from a road trip that he made to no-cal. But that is all the info that I have about it. Oh and it was a pretty amazing high as well... Since so little is known about it I went ahead and gave my bro the honor of naming it... We are currently calling it "Champaigne"...
*Note: will be going to 12/12 in probably about a week or so... just waiting for all clones to finish rooting and get them growing before I turn them over...

Well there is already a strain called champagne.. lol
bagseeds, you'll never know.
You can try to guess based on plant appearance, taste, and what you know is being grown in the region of origin... BUT~
Even if you knew the plant that the seeds came off of, what's to say that they didn't get pollinated by the neighbor's outdoor crop?
So trying to nail down a bagseed strain is nigh on impossible.
Just be happy they are good.

Thats funny. Well I guess we'll just have to come up with another name for it then... Then again being that it is bag seed, both girls are just a little bit different. one is more tempermental with the nutes than the other. And each looks a little different than the other. But they are growing at about the same rate. SLOW, short and kinda bushy... I'll post pics just as soon as I get them uploaded on my computer. I have been taking pics about every two weeks or so just to keep track of their progress....

BTW... Thanks for the input, Stinky.

So where could I find documentation or info on different strains, their appearance, taste, effects, regions etc.? Well, besides the Canabibles...

Lets see... Ed Rosenthal's big book of buds is a nice one.. Barnes & Noble carries it
Also browsing online seed catalogues is a nice education, lol
But you are never going to nail that down for sure!
