I feel very close to starting smoking cigarettes..
hmm its kinda hard to explain..
The one positive motive is that it would help me to lose weight, and seeing as weight it the biggest cause of my depression at the moment im just about desperate enough to try it..
Also im fed up of pussyfooting around tobacco.. whenever i smoke it.. like with weed or when drunk or whenever.. im constantly wondering if i'll get addicted.. what it'll feel like and all that.. i cant be fucked with that anymore..
im not stoned or anything right now.. so if that didnt make sense its just because im confused..
*sigh*

Lots of people will tell you no....but idk....I sometimes feel like smoking only because it helps me focus and stuff. But i wouldn't use them to lose weight. I sometimes do have a cigarette if I know i'm not gonna get any food soon.

Cigarettes won't help you lose weight. Only speeds up your metabolism, and once you stop, the weight goes back up.
Hit the gym. Not only will it help you lose weight, it'll help with your confidance.
Seriously, you don't wanna walk around being a stinky shit.
just dont smoke tobacco, your lungs will thank you

Im 5' 7" Im a dude, and I weigh 260 pounds. Ive been smoking for 20 years now, and although I dont do much of it, the person who said that exercise helps to keep you from being depressed is right. Ive been dealing with clinical depression myself for almost 11 years now. For no more good than what you get out of cigarettes, its not worth the price you have to pay, financially, and physically. I have read that cigarette addiction is as bad as heroin addiction. If I only knew how addictive cigarettes were, I would have never started. Also, I am 36 years old. I have begun to feel palpitations in my chest, and sometimes I get small sharp pains in my chest, and I know that its from all the years that Ive smoked. I will probably die of a heart attack, because of my addiction for cigarettes. I guess its better than cancer though. I wouldnt want to have to live through all of that constant pain, trying to gasp for every breath, and walk around with oxygen tubes hanging out of my nostrils.

For the love of god please dont start smoking cigs... youll sorta enjoy it for awhile but after like a year or 2 it turns into pure hell... do your self a favor and DO NOT SMOKE CIGS!!!! only smoke weed.. I smoked cigs for a long time and recently stopped 2 months ago and I am never touching that tabacco devil again. Also just exercise and dont give up and when you get the munchies only eat fruits and stuff and go on diet for your sober hours...

Granny sez "DON'T!" My hubby and I had our first every argument over tobacco. We were VERY broke and the next day was payday. He wanted to buy some Camel cigs with the last of our money, I wanted to buy food, so we could eat that night! We eventually compromised- he got a bag of Bull Durham, I got Mac and Cheese. He and I have been together for 40 years, and it is still a bone of contention between us. I don't even use tobacco except in a potpourri or to kill insects.
And a little bit from my first time around in college- a single drop of pure nicotine, placed on a rabbits ear, will kill the rabbit in less than 24 hours. (We never did it, but I believe the Prof.) Think about it- do you want that kind of stuff in your lungs? And I firmly believe that smoking tobacco will decrease your high! Your lungs get 'crudded up" with tars, etc. and the THC doesn't get through. Tobacco is bad for your health, smells bad, and eventually interferes with your high! Why bother?
Stick to cannabis!- Granny:hippy:

smoking will not help you lose weight. eating better and moving more will.
the more you wonder about being addictedthe more addicted you will actually be. ive been smoking two packs a day for 3 years and i still wonder if im addicted. if i didnt put any thought into it i could probably quit like magic.

DO NOT DO IT
DO NOT DO IT
I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, but the one I regret the most is starting smoking tobacco.
DO NOT DO IT
If you start smoking tobacco - something you KNOW will kill you, your nothing but an idiot. I used to smoke 40 a day - and im damn glad a quit. Nicotine is thought to be more addictive than heroin and cocaine. Nicotine is also lethal. Not to mention the fact you'll be paying money to die.

I'm not sure what kind of logic you have that you think smoking cigs will help your depression, it will just give you one more thing to be depressed about. Not just the addicted part, but also the fact that you will stink. If you have a problem with how you look now, just imagine if you also had a problem with how you smell? Do you really think that will help your depression?
Also, I'm not sure why you assume smoking will help you loose weight, I see just as many fat smokers as I do skinny ones, so for the love of god don't associate smoking with a weight loss program!
You are probably lazy like I am, but seriously hit the gym. Working out does wonders for depression because it gets your blood moving, and it pulls you out of that depressed funk your in. Working out does a lot mentally, it isn't all just physical, but cigs do nothing positive.
There is never a smart reason to start smoking cigs, I started because like a young idiot I thought it would help me age and look older, but the reality is that it just made me stink and good looking girls don't like that. Trailer trash may not mind if you smell like cigs, hell they'll probably cling to you, but hot girls will never want to be around you if you smoke.

Cigarettes are the biggest scam ever. Do you really want to pay good money to kill yourself?
Think of that money you'd be spending on cigs - when you could spend it on more weed. That's the one single reason you shouldnt start. Before i quit cigs i could only smoke about 10g's a day - i couldnt afford anymore, but now im not spending £10 a day on cigs i'm smoking a half oz a day - so some of the weed replaces the cigs, and im never in pain. Everyone is a winner. And it's all coz i quit cigs - so dont start - just smoke more and more weed, untill you turn green, and when you bleed, you bleed GREEN POT LEAVES!

The one positive motive is that it would help me to lose weight, ?
That is not a guarantee
Even if you did lose weight, at what cost?
Don't do it. Cigarettes are vile and I for one will not date a smoker ever again. You could be the hottest stud in the stable, but stinking like that? Uh uh. And since it sounds like you are already down on yourself, just think of how people will look at you if you SMELL bad... much worse!
Cheer up, get out of the house, go get some fresh air and enjoy the fact that you still have a sense of smell!!!! :D

NO!!
lol i know its been said,
but think about it this way:
you can now go gym and all that, your still pretty much able to breath and exerciseing will be tough but aftr a year or so you will definatley see results
if you smoke you will make yourself perform crapper in the gym and the weight you lose isnt gonna really affect ya at all, I hink its like a gram a day lol
nah really dont smoke fags, fi your that depressed over your weight, then get your ass down o the gym and give it all you got, dont start sucking PURE POISON!!!!!!!!

:
Tell yourself to deliberately NOT smoke! Nothing in life that is worthwhile comes without a bit of effort. If your friends are smoking around you and you personally don't start, you can take pride in your self-restraint. If you go to the gym or whatnot (I have had the most success with 2 things, getting a job that involves physical labor, and joining a cycling club- neither feel like a serious workout, just GOOD), you can take pride in that too, and bonus, you won't be so down in the dumps.

if u can think of only 1 positive to smoking then its not worth it...what happens when u lose the weight, u probly wont stop smoking..if uve been able to stay away this long, y cant go anymore? the body doesnt miss what it doesnt have to begin with..my entire family, all my friends cept 1, all my co-workers smoke..ive taken 2 drags when i was 16 just to see what it was like and im done forever..ill tell u from experience, u make every other person around u suffer- whether it be second hand smoke, the smell, borrowing money for em...its not a good thing

BAD BAD BAD life decision.
Its coming up on a year of quitting this summer and I am so so so soooooo happy not to be chained to those fucking disgusting death sticks. Please don't start smoking. With every cigarette you smoke you will feel worse and worse about yourself. Get up and get moving. No matter what physical activity it is your doing you will feel good about yourself for doing something positive. Something about exercise is just so rewarding. Killing yourself is far from rewarding. :)

The truth about tobacco is that it is the world's worst drug that can cause cancer and death.. over 400 chemicals which deserve to be made illegal or atleast criminalised. Cannabis has caused no deaths ever in history and is the best drug in the world.. pure joint is the healthiest smoke you can get..

I haven't read the whole thread but my 2 pennies are;
A) It may help you lose weight...but would you rather die or be overweight? And at any rate, should you ever decide to quit then you'll put the weight straight back on...Ain't worth it.
B) Being addicted to cigarettes doesent feel like anything...you just feel crappy when you don't have a fag. Weed you smoke to feel good...cigarettes you smoke to stop feeling bad.
Moral of the story, don't start smoking tobacco...i did and i wish i never had. Trying to quit now but it's easier not to start in the first place.

Don't start smoking cigarettes/tobacco. You'd have to be foolish to really do that. They're a leading cause of/contributor to:
Lung cancer
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema and chronic bronchitis)
Cardiovascular (heart) disease
Erectile dysfunction**
**No one ever points this out, but it's true. Ask any cardiovascular physician or urologist, the ones who're most often asked to prescribe Viagra and drugs like it.
Cigs also contribute to poverty. They ruin your health and make you poor. Just say no. If you want to lose weight, get some exercise instead. That'll do just to opposite of what tobacco does with the health conditions above--all of them.

Don't take up something regrettable for the sake of your depression... You can't fight fire with fire.
It is not guaranteed you will lose weight with smoking cigarettes... If that's the case, ALL smokers (which is predominately most people), they'd all be thin, yet these days 1 in 3 people are 'OBESE'.
If you are self conscious about yourself, best bet is working out... Join a local fitness centre, go 3-4 times a week... Intergrate a cardio/weight training routine and keep that up.
This will also make you eat healthy...
You have more chance losing weight going to the gym for 10 min walking on the treddy than smoking cigarettes, an addiction that MOST if not ALL smokers hate and wish to stop.
You will find you will be smoking more and more, eventually burning a bigger whole in your pocket, and become even more self conscious that you taken up a bad habit to substitute a depressive feeling, in which can be easily solved by doing the right thing and you will live life as a 'regretful smoker' and will become not only depressed about this, but you might also find you won't lose the weight you are hoping for and go to an even lower state of depression down the track.
What should you do?
Don't smoke tobacco unless you WANT TO smoke it
Join a gym
Keep smoking that weed :stoned:

im with everyone else..
dont start smoking cigs especially because you think they will help you lose weight... that is not a good way to do it... you will feel worse because later on when you wake up your gonna be wheezing and coughing up all kinds of shit that looks like it doesnt belong anywhere in your body....
i got into tobacco like a month ago and i was smokin it pretty often, and then one day i woke up in a coughing fit, i thought it was from smoking all kinds of tobacco but it turns out i was sick..
but anyway, i decided then and there it is pointless to smoke them because i dont wanna have to be feeling like that 20 yrs from now everyday just because i liked the feeling of the tobacco buzz a lil bit.... just not worth it to me..
and i dont believe it should be worth it to you either...
hit the gym and eat better!! the weight will start melting away...

Gotta agree here...I'm far from a saint and the fact that I started smoking is one of the few regrets I have when I think about it. I've tried to quit a couple of times and I always pick it back up. I hate it, but alas I still smoke. If you wanna lose weight, it's cheaper to pay for a monthly membership to the 24 hour fitness than a most smokers pay for cigs every month. I'm also pretty sure that I've seen plenty of overweight people who smoke and they don't lose a pound. Think on it.

Don't start!
I've been smoking on and off for almost 10 years now and it's a bitch trying to quite. Plus I always feel like shit when I smoke a lot of cigarettes on any given day. I suffer from depression too, but knowing that my smoking could mean an early death only makes me more depressed. I know it's tempting, but don't start smoking cigarettes!!!! It's totally not worth it.

I'm not a medical expert, but starting to smoke cigarettes is not great at all. Do you know how hard it is to quit smoking permanently?? It is just as or if not more addictive than heroin and cocaine. It's an addiction man, which thankfully you don't have to suck dick to support.
Yes it does decrease your appetite, BUT cutting down on eating really doesn't help you loose weight, as we've all been told it does. Food is fuel for your body. Now this depends on your metabolism. Eating more of the foods that help you loose weight will raise your metabolism along with exercise so you will burn more calories. Eating is more like 70% of loosing weight. You have to eat and eat the right foods.

Nicotine is meant to be more addictive than both smack and white.
I dunno, but when i quit i went through shit. I was shouting at everything, punching walls, the lot. I was so pissed off. Good job i live on my own coz if anyone else was here they'd have been in the firing line.
Not to mention nicotine is lethal. LETHAL.
