I just don't know anymore... I took Calc 1, Calc 2, Clac based physics and a fwe other classes during my first shot at college 2 years ago.

Didn't do so hot, so now I'm back... Took Trig in the summer, and calc 1, philosophy and history this fall...

Failed my Calc 1 and my history final. Still...

I'm begining to think one of two things. Either I'm not meant to get through college, or living at home and going to school and working just isn't a good idea...

I'm just so fucking sick of this. Why can't I be a rich little punk who mommy and daddy pays for everything? Well, maybe I wouldn't be down with that either... but I'm sick of this shit...

Thats what a lot of people say, but damnit I want to make enough to afford shit like my folks do :(

I'm glad I'm finally old enough to see my folks point of view, but as cliche as it sounds, I'm still too young to care. Well its not so much that, I just get bored of school fast cuz they go so slow. Like in the beginning of the semmester I'm all over it, but then either I end up working a lot and falling behind in school, or getting to the end of the first or second chapter well ahead of time and loosing track. Fucking sucks...

college is supposed to be tough. if you are living at home try to cut back on your work hours. if at first you don't succeed; try try again. that is the best advice i can give you. i also am in college, and doing quite well, however i'm not taking trig. or calc.

I need to do the exact oppisite... I'm broke as fuck and need to somehow find money for school, fixing my car, getting car insurance, and then i gotta save as much as possible to go away next year... So yeah, I'm about to find another job, work two jobs and shit. This is shitty as fuck, I gotta do good this semmester, but when I don't work during the day I end up either smoking and not doing my HW or just not doing my HW because I can't focus...

I know man, i just had my final exams for first semester and failed terrablly. Im a sped student. I was never really bright at anything. Anything exept music and science. I want to become a Biologist one day and work for national geographic but in order to do so I need to take 4 years of calc. Which is never going to happen because im taking algeribra 1 and I dont understand one fucking thing about it. Im trying really hard and im doing a lot better than last year but its not good enough i guess. I just cant give up. I have to do this. I want to do this. This is my future and im so stressed about it. Im so stressed and depressed I cant even pass the 9th grade. IM 16 AND I CANT PASS THE 9TH GRADE! Im really stressed sorry guys :(

Hey Buck, let me tell you a little story.........

When I was 14/15yrs old, I got a school report that said: "If 'Res' gets one CSE Grade E, then he'll be very lucky indeed." (CSE is like the basic of basic of qualifications, ok?).
I had to do some serious work to get up to scratch.
I wanted all the things that you talk about - finacial security, a house, car, etc...

I know about your current lifestlye (from other threads), and it is similar to the one that I lead when I was your age - I had a weekend job, no friends or social life, and a life spent at home with the folks :(

The only way that you're gonna change your grades and stuff, is for YOU to realise that YOU CAN DO IT.
And you can...I shit you not :)

Try to look at your school-work in a different way, ie, try to apply it to something that you undestand better.
Trigonometry is easy, when you know how to apply the math: remember the old rhyme? - Some Old Horses/Can Always Hear/Thier Owners Approaching
Some Old Horses - Sine=Opposite/Hypotenues
Can Always Hear - CoSine=Adjacent/Hypotenues
Thier Owners Approaching - Tangent=Opposite/Adjacent

As to your homework - quit the toking UNTIL you've done a good stint at it.
Use it as a reward system, yeah? - Like, adopt the mentality that "Yeah, I just spent a good 2 hours on my homework, and I'm now gonna have a well deserved smoke!" -this will acheive two things: 1st, it will make sure that you do your homework with a clear head, and 2nd, will make that smoke taste like heaven :D

Think about it like this too...once you've got the grades that you need, you'll be free!!!

How long have you got until you leave school and go into the wide-world? 1 year? 2years?
But that's all, dude...2 years of hard work and study...how quick has this year gone, man?...it aint that long! And before you know it, you'll have got the grades that you need, and you'll be free from the confines of schooling! YAY!!:D

WORK HARD, AND PLAY HARD - that's my motto :)

I left school with over 27 different qualifications - so, they can stick their report up their asses! Bwhahahaha

YOU can turn it around, Buck (and you too, Darkneon) - but, only you can do it!

It aint gonna be easy, it's gonna get tough at times, and you're gonna feel like you aint getting anywhere sometimes...but hey, if you try your uttmost best, there aint nobody who can say, "!Bah, you just gave up!"

I know what you're going through, 'cos I went through it too...but if I can turn myself around, then I'm sure that you can.

Best of luck, you guys :)

Sally Cant Tell
Oscar Has
A Hard
On Allways

My dad tought me that in 9th grade to help on the ACT. I told it to my 11th grade trig teacher (a very religous man) and he thought it was good, but changed it to HAT.
My wife had him the next semester and he told them and slipped up saying hard. He was so embarassed he left class for 15 min.

Oh and some real advice.

I just finished my last final ever of school 1 week ago. I managed to work 30+ hours a week all though college and buy a house even. Try to get scholarships, go down to the office that handles them and see if they have one form to apply for all, or fill them out one by one. I was friends with one of the teachers that gave out computer science scholarships and he said that so few people apply he gives one to everyone with a 2.0 GPA or higher. Make sure to fill out your FASFA too.

Thanks for the encouragement Res, the problem isn't the difficulty of the school work, its maintaining focus throughout the semmester, that coupled with working and going to college while living at home provides for great distraction. Not to mention I ain't got too many school buddies like I did at the first College I went to... I gotta get that transfer to MTU for next year....

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, Buck :)

Try to partition your mind - like, devote part of your head to study, and don't let the part of your head that focuses on 'play-time' (for want of a better phrase) interfere.
It depends how much control you have over your mind.
I used to do alot of yoga, and that helps to clear your mind, and focus on the job at hand, so to speak.

It's an awkward time of life, dude - the battle between wanting to have fun, and trying to stay focuses on college work...but no matter how much fun you think you're missing out on now, is nothing compared to the amount of fun you will have once you've gotten settled into a lucrative job, and your own life-stlye - trust me, you aint even begun to have fun, man! bwhahahaha :D

I hope that right... all I do it go to class, go to work, and toke on the side...

THat partition thing is an interesting idea, I might think on that when I toke later... I always can see things in a deeper light, so I tend to burn when something needs thinkin on....

Just finished my 3rd year, 2 semesters left, cant wait. Your taking some advanced math courses there I see. My friend has "W" organic chemistry 2 times now and is ready for a 3rd try. Dont give up I guess.

I personally dont like math. I'm substituting math for literature & science. Did elementary stats got a B and thats the jist of math in my MIS Bachelors.

I toke when I do my studying. I take it more serious when like that. I find the only reason for any failed tests is because I didn't study enough is all. I tell you what, Getting pretty sick of studying but at the same time I dont know what I would do without it. Always have to learn something :)

Price of books are about ridiculous. grrr

Yeah dude, college books are a giant raquet, but what can ya do?

See, I will study my ass off for the first 2 months or so of the semmester, then I'll end up missing one class somwhere down the line, fall a lil behind, and stop doing HW.... Then I'm toast... happens every time, I'm weak :(
