I've been wondering about the female obsession with being thin. I'm really beginning to wonder if this obsession really does thrive because of the media pushing out anorexic models, and air brushed beauty's. Something else that occurred to me is that women don't become thin in an effort to attract more men any longer. Especially since science states that men (with pregnancy in mind) would rather have a wife/partner with a larger frame, due to them being able to provide the male with more children. Or so I have read/seen in documentaries.
It seems to me women are actually in a war with each other over who can be the thinnest (in my opinion anyone who thinks becoming dangerously thin is attractive must be delusional). Rather than the media being to blame here, is the real reason that women don't really care about the magazines and pictures, more to the point they are quite paranoid creatures who thrive to be the thinnest. My girlfriend being a prime example here, she always complains about her figure. But I always re assure her she looks great (which she actually does), yet she doesn't believe it nor does she listen but instead carries on moaning. Now lets keep in mind most boyfriends hear this sort of thing, and most boyfriends will give the exact same answer as I do. But for some reason women won't listen and will still want to be thinner, even if someone was to state skinny women are ugly.
I can understand the media don't help, but I think even if they portrayed fat women eating cakes to be the new in thing women would still fight over who's the thinnest female of the world. So what I'm trying to say is, are the media really to blame for this whole dietary game, or is it women who really waged the war?
Anyone with information on why women are so obsessed with becoming thin please post it. I'm really curious over this, and wouldn't mind reading some more facts around it.
