i'm in california and looking to get certified for med-Mj, because of chronic lyme disease. what i am wondering is, since being certified means all my info would be known by the state, would i be in danger of prosecution by the federal gov for a small personal grow and use?
i know the feds have gone after co-ops and larger med grows. i assume that there'd be no reason to believe that they'd bother with individuals
sometimes i think it would be riskier to be registered; the idea of having myself registered as a user of a federally illegal substance is not the kind of information i like the government to have on me.
now i imagine you'll say i'm being paranoid but do you med users ever fear prosecution from the feds? the idea of PERMANENT records on file with the government of federally illegal activities just rubs me the wrong way

You do NOT need to register with the state! You will be perfectly "California legal" by getting a doctor's recommendation (just carry a copy of it in your wallet or purse- hey, I know female "Bobbys"). If you are arrested, you will have a bit more hassle since they will have to eventually contact the doctor for verification, but if you are within your county's limits on growing, you will be OK. You can grow, so the dispensaries are not really needed, but I always stay one plant under the 6 mature plants that are allowed. Lately, the local cops have been busting "over-enthusiastic" medical growers who have too many plants. My county doesn't even have cards yet, and I trust my local government about as far as I can throw the local courthouse. I won't be getting a card any time soon. This is a medical matter between my doctor and me- not the state and me! Go get legal, buy some lights and start growing. (Your own homegrown is always better, anyway!)- Granny:hippy:

ok, i'm very curious about this. basically, i am moving back to orange county, california, in order to recieve treatment for my chronic lyme disease. i think i'm a prime candidate for medical MJ. can someone else comment on what exactly i need to do?
from my understanding, i need to see a specialized physician, and then go on to get a card from the state? but you say i don't need that?
help would be appreciated. i would like to use herb services from time to time, but i would like to get growing myself.

ASA : Medical marijuana ID cards come with uncertainty (http://safeaccessnow.org/article.php?id=2815)
(From the article)
"Though ID cards aren't mandatory under SB 420 you only need a physician's written recommendation Swerdlow said it's a good way to stay out of jail."

yup, that's my fear, right there; i really wonder then if it is worth it to get the card, or just go with the doc's rec.
