Cho Seung-Hui supposedly had the correct permits and purchased his guns legally. However, on the question that asked ??Have you ever been adjudicated mentally defective or ? committed to a mental institution?? Cho answered "No," when in fact he had been held in an institution temporarily after harassing female students.
Did He Buy the Guns Legally? - Newsweek National News - MSNBC.com (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18217741/site/newsweek/)
The record of his mental unhealth was not posted to the national background check database. It is now obvious that it should have been.

come on, the gun check laws help no one but the criminals. While average hard working people who hunt and deserve to have protection, they have to wait weeks to get a gun. But are you stopping the criminals? No, does anyone think they get their guns from the store? No, they get them illegally. And by the way, he was released because he took back that he had wanted to be suicidal. The gun check laws are a joke.

Check with your local left wing congressman or possibly even one of our conspiracy folk in here regarding medical records being released to the government. We SURELY don't want big brother watching but we'll blame them when the shit hits the fan.

Hey, you've got 300+ million people in this country, quite a few of them have guns. It surprises me that a lot more aren't killed with guns. The level of stress is ever going up in this country , so I imagine these types of massacres will become more commonplace. I just registered a new gun yesterday, a nice little .380 that is perfect to carry. It's light, but carries 7 38 caliber rounds. With hollowpoints. it would sure as hell hurt to get hit with one. I might start carrying this piece, the .45 was way too heavy to lug around, this is light and can definently whop someone, It is very similar to the James Bond pistol. Happy hunting, ~LOL~.

I wrestled with this issue. I don't believe it is necessary to release the entire medical record, simply that mental health professionals label a person as Yes or No regarding gun purchases. thus we retain privacy while getting the benefits of background checks. thoughts?

Also, none of the girls the stalked persued the charges. Agreed, gun checks are a joke, criminals will find a way to get them no matter what laws the government creates. Gun Control only really hurts those trying to protect themselves.
