Alright, so I am entering some of my photography work into this contest at my school, mainly because if I can win it I can get a shot at a $10,000 prize.
The problem is that the reason I never submit my work anywhere is because I have a special affinity for all of it and can't choose what to submit! There is a limit of five photos per entrant, so I have to narrow this album, which is the one I decided to use, down to five pictures.
So, I would love you guys forever if you could check this album out and leave a comment here with your favorites. They are scaled down unless you click them, but if you have a slower connection you may not want to attempt it - though for all I know it could work perfectly well even on slower connections.
The album is here, click on the picture there to get to it: Picasa Web Albums - vileoxidation (http://picasaweb.google.com/vileoxidation)
They each have names under them to reference them with. (As you can see, all my creativity goes into taking the pics, and not naming them!)
Here are a couple of teasers just so you guys don't think this is totally worthless for me to attempt. These are scaled down a bit so it won't take forever if you want to click them.
P.S. Go to the album to see them all, these probably aren't the best, they are just so you guys know that I am not completely wasting your time.

I'm guessing it's a flower themed contest? If not, I really think you should venture out into areas with more emotion behind them.

Yeah - the one that I could get into if I win this one is for a calender of flower marco shots and a bunch of flower ads and stuff. I have to use the same shots if I do win, so I have to use of one my flower shots if I want to move on.
These are a beautiful pictures, but I certainly agree with you that if I have a choice I would rather capture emotion. But in this case, that's not an option. :)

Pink and White #5 (nice combination between near flower and far stems)
Yellow flower #1 (nice contrast between flower and backgorund colors)
Sunset flower #6 (harmony between foreground and background)
Orange & white #6 (the flower seems to be looking to the camera :p)
Pink tree flower #2 (nice shade of pink)
Pity i only can choose 5... As general comment, i would suggest to add some contrast, or lessen the brightness, to make the colors brighter. (i dont know if is allowed to process the pictures with some program like corel/photoshop/whatever)

No, we aren't allowed to digitally manipulate them at all.
I am a little confused though - you say lessen the brightness to make the colors brighter? What do you mean? Like darken the background so the foreground stands out, or something entirely different that I am just missing completely?
I love constructive criticism, and so I really want to know exactly what you mean. Thank you! :)

Really? I like the vantage point of the front-most leaf being almost parallel to the lens. I am insane though. :p :p
And LOL :S2:

Oh, well now that you mention that, I guess it's fine the way it is. I just like things that are centered ;)
Excellent pics by the way!

Well... when you increase the brightness, the colors become more whitish. When you increase the contrast, the colors become brighter, more coloured and less whitish. So, i was suggesting you to adjust this 2 variables (increase contrast or decrease brightness) for make the colors more vivid, more coloured, and less whitish.
And this new pictures are amazing! The 2nd (deep red) and the two blue/purple ones are beautiful! The red and one of the blue must be among the 5 choosen ones, as for me they are the best of them all!

Ah, I see. It was the whole decrease/increase brightness conflict that was confusing me, but that ^^ makes sense. :) Thank you!
I like the blue ones because it looks like a forest of little blue trees that you are looking up into. :stoned: :stoned:
And thanks again!! :)

Thank you all for your input, after much consulting these are the five that I have decided to submit. I should know if I have moved on in about a week.
As a side note, my mom showed a few of them to a friend of her's who makes notecards and things like that, and she was interested in buying a few of my photographs to use on her merchandise! This is only the third time I have sold any of my work for any purpose, so I was pretty happy!

Nice choice of photos! This flowers are very beautiful indeed!
And its nice to know there is someone wishing to buy your pictures. It would be a very interesting way to make some money, as you could be doing a thing you seems to like (taking pictures), and being paid for it.
If you take some new photos, show us!
And good luck in the contest!
