Weed is illegal, but wrongly. The people on this site, and everyone that smokes cannabis, smokes it because they choose to think for themselves, and not to blindly accept the governments unethical bullshit. And it's expensive because it's illegal :)

It's a double-standard.
Tobacco and MJ were used equally for a long time.
It wasn't until the 1930's that MJ was made illegal.
After the Mexicans were run out of Southwest U.S. after the Mexican-American War they slowly began to come back to the Southwest to work as helping hands on the lands that were taken away from them.
Once here, some Mexicans were getting drunk and high, and were getting into trouble.
In the 30's the US was going through The Depression, and they saw Mexicans as scapegoats for The Depression. They were repatriated back to Mexico and since they were the ones bringing MJ here Congress voted to make MJ illegal in the U.S.
That's the only reason why, not because it was dangerous.

Even though tobacco kills people it is still legal because the Tobacco companies give Congress a lot of money to get re-elected. So, why make tobacco illegal. It's like biting the hand that feeds you.

what about other health risks? in science class, the teacher said cannabis smoking is as harmful as tobacco smoking. not sure if i'm making a point or not lol :p . cannabis is a plant right. so how can it be harmful anyway? :confused:

Cannabis isn't nearly as psysically harmful as tobacco smoke. Tobacco smoke is proven to cause cancer, but no one can proove the same for cannabis. The only "harmful" thing about it is the fact that it contains tar, and smoking it releases that tar... but it's not really that bad, the same thing would happen smoking ANY kind of plant. And no, cannabis does NOT cause brain damage, and does NOT kill brain cells, it works on a completely differant principal than something like alcohol which DOES kill brain cells (your brain actually has THC receptors, and the THC in marijuana binds to them; whereas alcohol directly effects brain cells by poisoning them, more or less). It may cause short-term memory loss, but that's a temporary side-effect. If eaten, cannabis is extremely safe, and there are basically no adverse effects (though I've never used that method of intake before, so I can't speak from experience).
And yes, I'd say the overwhelming majority of people here smoke weed (including me). I'm 18.

If anyone knows all the information about the plant cannabis sativa and the good and bad effects it has a person, it is me. I have witnessed first hand many of the bad things and good things that pot can do. I smoke marijuana. Its simply a damn fine drug and undoubtedly the safest and most interesting drug in existence.
