I smoked a lot in London when I was on Vacation, and I swore I was seeing stuff. :) But I am no scientist or drug expert, so I don't really know. Damn my first post here, and it feels good!

Hate to break it to you, but your friend is right. Marijuana is classified as a hallucinogen (there's a reason for this... just cant quite recall what it is) It has something to do with time...

Anyway, yeah, it is technically a hallucinogen, but it's certainly not like mosto ther hallucinogens. It's not really like anything else... i love weed.

Sorry guys. but...

Weed is classified as a hallucinogen.

However, it does NOT make you hallucinate and hallucinogens are not actually called that because they make you hallucinate, but because of the way they affect your mind 'n shit.

One thing that most of these drugs do not do, despite the ingrained usage of the term hallucinogen, is to cause hallucinations. Hallucinations, strictly speaking, are perceptions that have no basis in reality, but that appear entirely realistic. A typical "hallucination" induced by a psychedelic drug is more accurately described as a modification of regular perception, and the subject is usually quite aware of the illusory and personal nature of their perceptions. Some less common drugs, such as DMT and atropine, may cause hallucinations in the proper sense.

heh, weed can definetly make you hallucinate. One time when I was a newbie I smoked quite a bit of northern lights and after a while I was so baked I saw this green blob that looked like a face floating in the air. it lasted for a few minutes.

no shit.

Read my post. (above this one).

Weed does not make you hallucinate.

And green blob? That sounds like you may have had oxygen deprivation or some shit, definitely not a hallucination. Thats like when you stare at a light 'n see blobs of colors.

no man i was tripping out. I already read your post I know the difference between the hallucinations.

It was a psychedelic visual, it had nothing to do with lights or anything.

I don't understand why people can not accept the fact that cannabis is a mild hallucinogen.

Anticholinergic drugs give you definition hallucinations.

Then there are psychedelic visuals and psychedelic hyperspace (DMT).

Weed gives you psychedelic visuals. I don't know about you guys but whenever I toke up my vision becomes more vibrant, sometimes streams of faint color appear on walls.

When it comes down to it, what would you categorize herb under: narcotic? depressant? stimulant?

herb is psychedelic

Emmm

Apparently weed really does cause schizophrenia.

And weed may be classified as a hallucinogen, but you will definitely not trip off of it, it just has mild visual effects in higher doses.

It's classified as a mild hallucinogen. You guys are using the word "hallucinate" like it has to mean full blown open eyed visuals like on other hallucinogens or disassociatives. A hallucination can be as simple as thinking you hear someone talking downstairs but nobody's home. I'd venture a guess that almost everyone here who has smoked enough has thought they heard things or seen things.

You might have an ear infection if it feels like it will explode because I have one now and thats what it feels like.

Weed is not a stimulant [cocaine is a stimulant]

Weed is only a halluciogen on a technicality - it alters what you do see VERY SLIGHTLY - nothing like REAL halluciogens such as LSD and shrooms.

I have no evidence, but I can so I've smoked for over 2 years and I have never hallucinated when I was high.

Who hear has ever gotten high and time went by really quick or really really slooooooooooooooow? That would be an alteration in time perception and fall under a mild hallucination. For me this is my most common weed hallucination.

er.. ok i'm confused...

what i got is...

you have a friend that says weed is a halucinogen, you know it's not and you want proof to show him it's not. then you insult yourself, then claim it's really your friends account you snuck on to make him think he's an idiot, but told him the original poster is someone else, so he thinks he's responding to someon else, you post again, to make him think someone's insulting him to see (and i fuckin quote this part) how mad YOU get...

.... you knwo i'ts alot easier to just admit you're wrong and feel stupid right?

Cannabis is a psychedelic, which fits under the category of "hallucinogen."

to end this discusion on weed and its hallucangenic you know when you smoke and you look at something like the trees or the sky and you go "badass" that is the type of alterations on your perception. If you smoke a whole shit ton though you will see shit

When most of us think of tripping/hallucinating we think of seeing things and hearing things that arnt there at all - like with acid and shrooms.

Weed is only really an halluciogen on a technicality. It's nothing like REAL halluciogens.

i don't think weed will give u visual hallucinations.
However, when ppl trip off weed they can go through a temporary state of psychosis. Psychosis causes visual hallucinations.
