So when we got out HID system, we payed $50 and promised to smoke the guy up once. Not a bad deal.

The hps ballast and light are being used, but the MH bulb burnt out when we first got the systems. So now I want to buy a replacement asap. The thing is I have no idea on the specs of these ballasts.

I did some research, googled M400LU/HTL and found this website which had a spec sheet about the light which said
S51

EYE Hortilux Metal Ace (http://www.eyehortilux.com/metalace.html)

So then here I am on 400 Watt Metal Halide Position Oriented Light Bulb (http://www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=226)
But the bulb ballast types are M59, so I'm assuming that they won't work.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I see there are some on ebay, eBay - m400 htl items on eBay.com (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=unknown&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&from=R10&satitle=m400+htl&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=55987&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fpos=55987&lsot=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=&fpos=55987)

But I really don't want to get raped on ebay by their high prices and equally disturbing shipping prices.
I see there is this Agromax bulb

High Tech Garden Supply (http://www.htgsupply.com/productdetail.asp?productID=368)

It says universal, does that mean it'll work in any system?
Old bulb and the back of the ballast.

you need a 400 watt MH. they are all the same as far as working... ballasts differ in the incoming voltage needed, and being either electric or magnetic (yours) .. bulbs are pretty much universal (for a given type of light and wattage)

just get a 400mh designed to burn in the position needed and you should be fine, example do not buy a bulb designed to burn base up and install it in a horizontal fixture or vice versa.

oh so they make them go up and down to? I suppose I saw grows of people doing that with multiple HPS cool!

So 400 Watt Metal Halide Position Oriented Light Bulb (http://www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=226) the bulb will burn from let to right if you will; attached to the ballast. Like looking at the horizon.

the universal ones can usually be used in either position would just check the specs to make sure, the problem with that link is that the description says horizontal and the specs on the same page say base up only so obviously one or the other is wrong.
if you are using 1000 bulbs would probably choose from these 2

How about for an HPS bulb on the same site, same type of ballast I think I'll go with one of those that you recommended they make me feel at ease with the general 59 ballast.

hps bulbs will burn in any position so just get one for the wattage you need you really only have a couple of choices that is the cheaper standard bulb or the more expensive hortilux either should work fine.

if you got a MH and an HPS you dun need hortilux.. they are designed to make up for the lack of one or the other.. sort ogf.. they also provide a slightly better spectrum than you would get with both. since i happen to have a loaned 400 watt MH i took my 1000 HPS hortilux out and put back in the old cheap one (still works) i'll use the hortilux later on
