So in health class were in the drug unit, and everyone knows what that means, ridiculous facts about cannabis! But the one I heard today seemed exceptionally unbelievable, my teacher said that smoking one joint is equivalent to smoking 30 cigarettes. 30! That's a pack and a half of cigarette carcinogens and toxins crammed into one measly joint. It's sad to think how mis-informed people are these days.

they've upped it huh?

it used to be one joint is equivelant to 4-5 cigarettes..

i dunno, but i could definately imagine it would have more... cuz usuually cigarettes are filtered and joints are not..

however, there is no proof that weed smoke produces the carcinogens cigarettes do.. and even more so.. now it's thought it actually fights against it...

may have more tar and what not... but more harmful then cigarettes? i doubt it...

wow...just a couple years ago when i was in highschool, it was 20 cigs are the equivalent to one joint...goes to show you weed is really bad for you. Did they tell you how weed kills tons of brain cells and you will never ever get them back?:wtf3:

I hate that bull-ish

o ya Im excelling in college better than I did in highschool, and i smoke the same amount....its all about priorities.

yeah lol... then awhile back... on this forum, someone posted a scientific study, proving once and for all brain cells do grow back....

i was laughign my fucking ass off... i of course have my own proof it happens as i used to do something, bad, that eats up braincells like a pig in a donut shop... if they didn't grow back.. i'd still be stuttering and litearlly retarded...

30 cigarettes' worth of carcinogens? Challenge your teacher to locate one shred of evidence suggesting that cannabis-only smokers get lung cancer more than non-smokers. Make your teacher back up these arguments with credible reports from peer-reviewed medical journals. Remind the teacher that regurgitating crap from the DEA and DARE and other anti-pot groups is deliberately misinforming the students, since these groups have a clear bias in the debate. Impartial sources and real science are what counts, not scare tactics.

i never go to my health classes, well in the uk its called general studies, but apparently one class just ended up deciding weed should be legalised and like 3 teachers all agreed. i wish i was in that class mine tend to single me out a bit so i end up argueing with like 20 people including the teacherabout how im doing way better than most people in the class grades wise and still toke.
it wierd the impact a teacher opinion can have

i think thats not true seeing how cannabis isnt regulated by the government.. or large corporations who seem to throw in all these dangerous additives to cigarettes. where as home growers, or those who grow weed, arent going to add the chemicals into weed after they are done, no half of them are probably to poor to afford to put the chemicals in weed that the cigarettes companies put... how the hell are cigarettes less harmful? fucking beats me.

why do they add chemcials?? make us more addictive, we buy it more so government is getting more cash out of it.. and where does that cash go? into propoganda (above the influence) or teaching kids that cannabis is more harmful than cigarettes.. bull fucking shit.

Hey, Idostuff, you need to do a "kick-ass" report on medical marijuana for your term paper! Just google cannabis and cancer or MS or fibromyalgia or Alzheimer's. You will get SO much data! "Whup their asses" by using scientific proof to refute their lies! Here's some sites to get you started!

(this is an abstract about cannabinoids and breast cancer, but the site has other good cannabis articles, too)

I really HATE ignorance! Do a good paper (and let your fellow students "critique"/read it before you turn it in- it might dispel some of the BS your teacher is putting out and educate them)! - Granny:hippy:

i have done a fair amount of research on the subject. one joint does have many more carcinegons than one cigarette. i dont know about thirty though, and really it is a moot comparison to make. yes, cannabis has far more carcinegons, but the thing is it has never ever once in thousands of years caused cancer. when i was researching it, it said a similar study(one dealing with what chemicals are in something and which ones are carcinegons) for coffee. it has over 800 chemicals, and of only 21 tested, 17 were found to cause cancer in mice, yet coffee isnt a cancer causer. i mention that because another thing a lot of people try to say is well there are this many chemicals in weed smoke and bla bla bla carcinegons. so even if what he says is true, and from the research ive done it seems a little exaggerated, it is totally misleading.

but to all you people who think otherwise, cannabis does have more carcinegons than tobacco, so you arent going to come up with contrary proof, so id say maybe take alittle of your own advice and look it up. has a lot of carcinegons, but doesnt cause cancer, that is the fact not spun to support one side or the other, just the simple truth

Our Governments bang on and on about education - that's rich comming from those lying wankers - teaching kids with bullshit so they grow up not knowing ANYTHING.

Cannabis does, in fact, contain more carcinogens than tobacco. The problem with tobacco is that it doesn't contain cannibanoids, which have been shown to inhibit the growth of cancerous cells.

this is an excerpt from the book "Drugs and Society seventh edition" this book was from a college course i took when i was in school.

Marijuana is often smoked like tobacco and like tobacco can cause damage to the lungs. When smoking tobacco nearly 70% of the total suspended particles in the smoke are retained in the lungs. Because marijuana smoke is inhaled more deeply than tobacco smoke, even more tar residues may be retained with its use.
Smoke is a mixture of tiny particles suspended in gas, mostly carbon monoxide. These solid particles combine to form a residue called tar. Cannabis produces more tar (up to 50% more) than an equivalent weight of tobacco and is smoked in a way that increases the accumulation of tar.
More than 150 chemicals have been identified in marijuana smoke and tar. A few are proven carcinogens; many others have not yet been tested for carcinogenicity. The carcinogen benzopyrene, for example, is 70% more abundant in marijuana smoke than in tobacco smoke.

cannabis is a drug, and it can be dangerous.

I'd love to ban the word marijuana somehow.

Cannabis is a plant and is not dangerous.

reefer~ according to your logic, a plant that contains carcinogens is not dangerous. tobacco is a plant that contains carcinogens.....by your logic tobacco is not dangerous.

alcohol and tobacco are more dangerous than marijuana, i agree, but saying that marijuana is not dangerous at all doesn't make sense to me. to me it seems that most smokers are just like non-smokers in that they refuse to change their opinions. supposedly there has never been a reported case of cancer caused by reefer. i wonder why that is ? maybe because cancer patients arent asked what caused their cancer.... .. .maybe its because people that smoke reefer also smoke cigarettes. maybe its because it hasn't been studied. maybe its because no one has smoked enough reefer to cause it. i really dont know. but i refuse to believe that smoking dope is completely 100% safe.

Ofcourse it's not harmless, however, dangerous is a different word. Alcohol is dangerous, tobacco is dangerous. Cannabis - No

Oh no carcinogens, i'm really scared :/ Well like you say, they've never found that cannabis causes cancer, unlike tobacco. You can filter out carcinogens anyway... You can always eat it, i don't rememeber ever reading any studies determining that would be dangerous, to one's health. Like i've said, how many people does cannabis kill a year?
