How about forum specific awards- activist of the month, worst grammer/run on sentence, noob of the month, hottest post (boner award), Most useless thread(ie. "I am so stoned"), The WTF? award, Grower of the month, Funniest post etc...:jointsmile:

overgrow had a nice system like this in place. on the front of their page they would have a photo of the week, usually the stickiest ickiest bud picture that week. the winner got a custom quote under their user name where it says registered +

And even if that is what it is, what's the deal? You might not like it, but some people might think it's a cool idea, some fun, something to talk about, whatever... Kind of like the reputation system.. Be more open minded, dude.. :D ;)

Honestly though, it shouldn't matter if it's seen as a popularity contest or not. This is a forum. This is the only place anyone could ever be recognized for being the "stoner of the month". I say make a whole slew of awards and hand 'em out like herpes :jointsmile:

(edit: in retrospect, I realized that you don't ever "hand" out herpes. I won't depict what body part you would use to pass it on).

I proposed this idea on the premises I'll never win an award.

This shouldn't make people feel uncomfortable and I agree, these awards shouldn't be tied into any form of a popularity contest. Naturally it would to a degree, but the impact will be far lessoned on how it's awarded. I was thinking more on the terms of "roasts." Should be all in good fun, and adds a little spice in my opinion.

People get all caught up with the reputation thing, popularity and shit. It's not important to be emotionally invested in it. This idea isn't about that.
