View Full Version : If there's anything you learn from High School, it's this.

It doesn't matter how much time and effort you put into something, it isn't good enough.

Example: A while back I spent 6 hours doing a project. I even missed going to the 300 premier. 6 hours doing a project that I knew I was going to get at least a 90%. I made people read it, they loved it. I made other teachers read it, they said it was great.

I ended up getting 75% on it.

But it isn't the mark I got that pisses me off. It's the fact that there are always those lazy fucks who don't give a fuck about school and think it's one big joke. Listen folks, I don't care what you think, education IS important.

This laid back, lazy, stupid waste of semen pothead (the kind that is always fucking stoned and spends 75% of his money on weed) copy and pastes his entire project, hands it in and gets 91% on it. Just by reading it I could tell he plagiarized it. I asked him and he said, "pff, yeah dude. Took me 5 minutes to do it, man."

oh dude, i spent hours on a poetry project, it was fucking killer compared to everyone elses because i actually put alot of heart into them, and i got a 75. for fucking lateness. it was only a few days late too, i rlly have to learn to finish things on time. doesnt make it any less dissapointing though, i may as well have bullshitted the project in 5 minutes and gotten a 75 that way

I agree time and effort are very overrated in high school. I admit I cut a few corners at times, but mostly did the shit myself. Got high-honors most of the time and distinction a few times. But, I hardly put in any time into the work (projects I put a small amount). It's not because I didn't care, I just didn't need to put the time or effort. I never read a book, because I hate reading, and I never did my homework at home, but the point is...it got done. I took pride in getting such good grades with little effort...but all people are different, some need to focus more than others. There's nothing wrong with it, and I agree some people don't deserve the grades they get. But, I think I deserved my grades, because I found a better way to do things. Still stayed honest, just never stressed over things, and took more time to enjoy things rather than do work that you'll never use again.

But, don't get down man, karma will come around I'm sure of it.

That's part of why I don't give a fuck about school....i'm one of those lazy stoners that doesn't try hard but still gets good grades. I'm smart but I don't think anything up until college teaches you much.....except maybe grades k-3.....

The truth.

Shit, I didn't have time to spend on work with all the sports, girls, beer and bud lol. Education is important, but not really high-school shit. High-school is more for the experience than what you learn, if you learn anything.

dude, stop obsessing about marks. high school simply blows. its just the way it is. we all have to go through it.

by the way, fair work is barley ever rewarded. theres nothing wrong with cheating as long as you use your head (and dont get caught) and manage to get higher marks for less work. thats the way life is. im almost done highschool btw and i havent learned a single useful thing from it so far. 3 months left to go.

Fucking word dude.

You should complain 'bout that shit. Don't rat that dude out, but say something like "I personally know of a student who spent 5 minutes on his project and received a higher mark than me."

That shit is bull man. Exactly why I don't like to try that often, 'cause when you work your ass off 'n don't get a good mark it makes you feel like such shit 'cause you realize it was a waste of time 'n you coulda' got stoned instead.

High School is just a bunch of people labelling you as whether you are good enough to go to postsecondary school. Post secondary school is just a bunch of people labelling you as whether or not you are good enough to work. Work is a bunch of people telling you what to do with your great results mostly working in their benefit. Those people live in fear of their bosses, hoping to get promoted to a higher management position. The highest in a company are never really the highest, the answer to a bunch of people saying they owe them money. The people collecting the money need it bad, because well, they are adding a 6th story to their house and bitch that shit don't come for free

I could go on forever but what I'm trying to say is WHY DID WE MAKE THINGS SO COMPLICATED FOR OURSELVES? Fuck school. NOT fuck education. But fuck the schooling systems. They are just one blade in the swiss army knife of unnecessary burdens humans brought upon themselves throughout history

Today wasn't too good for me grades wise either..

Yesterday was "Senior Ditch Day", which at our school isn't really common but people still do it, including myself. Before this I had never been late to a class without a legit excuse and I'm already accepted into the college I want to go to, so I figured one truancy wouldn't hurt at all. It ends up the penalty for ditching is a single percentage drop in each class missed (for the first offense, it gets harsher as you get more), and any schoolwork due that day could not be turned in by the student (which thankfully was only my math class). It doesn't stop there though, I had an in class essay in English which I missed yesterday, and I will be making it up tomorrow, but with an automatic two grade deduction from it.

I think that those penalties are absurd, especially the homework one. I figure a person that ditches often stereotypically doesn't do their homework, and therefore should be forced to do the homework due that day, not the other way around.

If it weren't for the fact that I just don't care about highschool anymore I would be one unhappy camper. I could really use some warm weather right about now...

Pfft, shit man, highschool is a fucking joke. You're better off not putting genuine work into it and just figuring out what each teacher likes, and going with the flow.

I do almost 0 actual work (I have to do some mindless shit too, but I can watch TV and play games while doing it, so it doesn't count as real work), I sleep through half my classes, and I have a 4.3/4 GPA . Just figure out what teachers want and give it to them, no matter how stupid it may seem. Highschool is too damn easy to put work into.

Damn dude, that sucks.

At my high school, if you get caught skipping school you get a three day vacation....er....suspension.

I fail to see the point in that. You suspend a student for skipping class and punish him/her by allowing them to stay home. Great fucking thinking. I think administration needs to go back to school.

Like 90% of my senior class skipped on Senior Skip Day. Went out and got some Party-Balls at like 12, and went to the beach. No other way to do it.

I had a ball in high-school. If you whine and bitch about it all the time, look at all the negatives, and keep to yourself, of course you will hate it. But, if you party like a rock star for 4 years, meet a shitload of people, get with girls, play sports, attend games, and have a positive outlook, you should enjoy yourself very much.

Then when you get to college, multiply that by a few....

Freshman year I wasted high on free weed (thnxdealerboyfriend), I don't remember the grades I got, the begining of sophomore year I was high on more free weed (thnxdealerboyfriend#2), but I networked and networked and networked then I dropped out for 4-5 months...about two months left of school is when I started alternative school. Free A's+B's but no networking, no new friends. Now It's the end of jr. year and I'm dying to go back to regular school whether or not I get good or bad grades, I just want my friends back. (Next year I'm in mostly honors classes in normal school)

High School is a one big party.
Stop stressing.

I'm already intelligent, I have no idea what I'm doing when I graduate so grades don't matter, all I know is that I need a decent job to pay for my apartment. I'll deal with college when I need to.

I started with literally 5 credits soph. year though and now I have all the ones I'm supposed to.

Kids do what they gotta do to get by.
Whether it be cheat, or try their hardest.

Damn. I know that i learn stuff at school in most of my classes. Then again i go to college preparatory private school but still. The only class i really dont learn anything in is geometry because our teacher is some old ass bitch who is boring as fuck. Otherwise i actually learn shit in class. English all we do pretty much is read books and write essays. Chemistry is hard but at least i understand some of it. Theology is awesome and helps me understand religion more. History is actually a joke because i knew most of the stuff anyway and my teacher sucks. Music history is awesome cause we just listen to music and take notes about composers and stuff. Spanish is the greatest though!

Yes i know i just sounded like a complete nerd lol. 3.3 gpa

Fuck grades and fuck highschool. You know your paper was good, but it's a shame that you would care if your teacher gave you a high mark on it or not. You shouldn't need the vallidation from some techer that your paper was good. And if your teacher is stupid enough to give some stupid kid a high mark on a clearly copy-pasted paper than you should take it as a compliment that he didn't give your paper the grade it deserved.
I have also learned that grades have a lot to do with the way you act in class. I am in 3 art classes at school, all with the same teacher. I know my art work kicks ass, and so does my teacher. But he is such an annoying controll freak and hates that I NEVER do anything in class. I just talk to whole time because I can't concentrate on my art work. But in the end I always have more work turned into hiim than all the other kids because spend hours at night doing it (I can never sleep). And when all my work is in and done I normally get A's on all of my pieces but then we have this stupid section called citizenship which is worth 1/3 yes 1/3 of our grade. And because my teacher can't deny that my work is done and good he makes sure I have a bad grade in his class by lowering my citizenship grade. But I could give a shit if my art grades are all low, yet thats the only area im actually good in, because my grades refelect nothing except the fact that im social in that class. Now im rambling on ...

I agree that high school, for the most part, is a joke. Your situation sucks, I think we can all feel for you on that. It's a complete pain in the ass to see people copy/paste shit and get good marks. But man.........6 hours on a project?? I'm not trying to be an asshole here, but that's not THAT much. Come on now, if 6 hours is that big of a deal to you, then have fun in college ;) Professors are generally much better at spotting who copy/paste's shit. Also, not very many people have the balls to actually try it. Getting caught plagiarizing in college is a much bigger deal then getting caught in HS. Everyone's been there though. Put the time and work in now, and it will pay off for you later.

Don't get too excited about college. In many ways it is really just an extension of high school. The only real differences are that you get a lot of opportunities to party since you're out on your own, the teachers don't really give a fuck if you come to class or not, and you have a shitload more work to get done. This can be a deadly combination, leading many students into a spiral of partying and neglecting schoolwork that they end up dropping out.

But for the rest of us, it means we don't get to have much of a life. Trying to juggle schoolwork, a job, a social life, free time to yourself, and sleep time is tough. Sleep will be the first thing you'll sacrifice, then your free time, then your social life.

You will do tons and tons of work and it will all seem very unrewarding, because the teachers expect a lot out of you and their expectations of what you can get done in how much time is often unrealistic. Many teachers forget that we have other classes to do work for, that we have jobs and lives outside of academics too. They will expect you to work all weekend long on doing their project or studying for their test, and expect you to put everything else on the back burner. They will try to monopolize your out-of-class time, and they will succeed.

It's bullshit. But if you want that diploma, you have to put up with it. You'll be forced to learn a lot of crap you really couldn't care less about, you'll be forced to do a lot of pointless work, and you'll be forced to consume unhealthy doses of caffeine to keep up with it all.

If yall had bad times during high school, that is your own damn fault. I went through HS like it was standing still. I left when I wanted, went when I wanted. Still graduated honors, still was homecoming king. All AP classes, all As. Rebel without a cause just didn't give a fawk. Rolled in at 10am, rolled out around 2:30.

My counselor came up to me late senior year and said "ya know, you are going to have to make up 45 actual hours since you.........ya know what? Nevermind."

Had a blast in HS. Everyday was just a tv-athon, pc-athon, women-athon. Left that horrid spot and went to the river to drink whenever we could gather a crowd.

College is important, I don't think High School is, except for the pure essentials, such as math, english, science. I think it's annoying when people waste their youth in high school, working their ass off like it's the most important thing, and never have fun. My cousin is like this, and never has fun because of it. Live your youth. If you can get by in high school, and make it to college, that's good. I don't think people shouldn't go, but working your ass off constantly in high school is lame. Some people try WAY too hard, and that's what I'm talking about. Live your life in balance, and don't be pissed off when you work way too hard and find out that you got a bad grade. The fact is, you worked too hard, and had too high of expectations. The lazy pothead got a good grade, even though he plagiarized... but why should you care? Do what he does, and maybe you'll get a good grade too? Shit, dude, you need to relax, really. It's HIGH SCHOOL. Life goes beyond HIGH SCHOOL. Don't let teachers tell you otherwise. And yes, I agree education is important. But really, how much of what you did in this assignment did you already know? I remember in high school I knew a lot about what we had to do in assignments already, so I didn't waste time with them. To be honest, I learned very little from high school.

I had a ball in high-school. If you whine and bitch about it all the time, look at all the negatives, and keep to yourself, of course you will hate it. But, if you party like a rock star for 4 years, meet a shitload of people, get with girls, play sports, attend games, and have a positive outlook, you should enjoy yourself very much.

sorry for the dbl post but I just read this.

This is exactly what every kid that hates school needs to be told, its so much better to try and reach out and live it than sulk off in a corner and consider it all lame. Theyre the type that will be kicking themselves in the ass in a few years time

I went to high school in America for freshman year and like a week of sophmore before i moved back to London. It was kool, the people i met were the best part though. Now i'm going to college in London studying French, English language + Literature combined and Philosophy (best subject ever)

Yeah, so hopefully in a year i'll be going to the University in Amsterdam studying Philosophy. Hopefully...

theres always that thing called first impressoin thing. i had a teacher once, he was really funny, made alot of jokes that even highschool kids could relate to. well, i remember handing in a assignment maybe spending 1-2 hours on it? i got an 80% on it, and for the rest of the semester, no matter how much effort i put into something or how much time i put iinto it i still got the exact same mark. the same thing went for other people with lower marks, no matter what they could raise their mark. the mark wouldnt EXACTLY the same mark, or else what kind of teacher would that be, but it would be plus or minus a couple percentage, an average of the mark you got initially.

So how much work did you do? Don't you have to do work at least for AP classes at your school or is it just that easy. I know you're not learning calculus if you're partying all day.

I learned about marijuana in high school, so I don't lament those years of waking up early.

Well, I thought about it, and realized that I got accepted into the college of my choice and into the program of my choice and that lazy fuck didn't get accepted to college. So I guess he won the battle, but I won the war.

Not very much. My senior year we had a choice between AP chem and biology. All the girls (advanced class mind you) went to biology and guys went to chem. (no apparent reason, just kind of ended up like that)

After trying the first experiement, we (collectively) messed up temps and scrapped it. About that time, everyone had their college acceptance letters, so there was no real point in doing anything. Besides, Real TV came on at 2:00 every day.

And no, never did learn that fuckin calculus. If you saw my college calc grades, youd probably laugh. Thats why I went from Engineering to 'watered-down' business math.

Wouldn't change a minute of that time spent. Actually wish I was still back there....drinkin beer and rollin down to the river. *sigh*

K, so he's smarter than you..
Not in knowledge, but he knew what he had to do to get a good grade and he did it....

Good for him.
